I dont believe that image teaser came from Ricoh Imaging marketing division.
It is plain silly to share the product teaser to the photography forum where the reader is so small. If Ricoh really want to get attention by cheap image spoiler, Ricoh will only lose credibility.
Look at fuji they invite the famous blogger to their factory as the smart marketing program.
The image teaser is really funny.
However, what Asahiman said make sense to the current condition. Maybe future DSLR will get smaller, with more electronic rather than mechanical stuff. Nevertheless, we can't trust 100% what Asahiman said will come into reality in the future.

Wow, discussion is (always) drifting away from the core topic. No need to compare between K-1 silver edition with Nikon D850. It is a special edition, only 2000 available. There are enough buyers here in Japan, Call it crazy.... but yes they do exist, group of wealthy people who love to collect special edition like this.
For example I am really looking Pentax K-S1 special edition like this (Special Edition Pentax K-S1 Trio Announced), I want to have pink color for my kid. But, I have never found any. It looks like the Japanese buy, and keep it forever.

I think it will sell pretty fast. Japanese is crazy about something for collection. I hardly find any second-hand K-3 with gunmetal or silver version.

If you realize, the life cycle for 645Z is 4 years, which will be next year for the replacement. If they say they are working on 645Z Mark II, which I believe they are doing, then it is quite disruptive to the current sale. I think, most important thing to do is releasing lenses from the roadmap.

I guess they are testing DFA 50 1/4 first,
how many will buy and then if the respond is good then they will speed up the other production.
So, all in all, it depends on pentaxians themselves.

1. Will they make compact camera (with 1 inch sensor perhaps ?)
2. How they see the APS-C market nowadays with aggresive and rapid growing tech in the Mirrorless counterpart ? Will Pentax make one ?
3. How do they feel about Fuji GFX? Will they respond with superior product ?

Yes, but pentax has also benefit in the other area, which you fail to see it. Anyway, about new Pentax AF system, nobody knows it in this forum. As I said before, even if they have new AF system in their new DSLR body, I am not really sure you are going to buy it. You will just be dissappointed, either by the performance or price, or both.

Indeed. If anyone really want advanced AF system such as D500, then get ready to spend 2000 USD for one body. But I doubt many Pentaxian would do.
The only solution for OP is upgrading his beloved K-5II to the recently introduced Pentax KP and see himself the AF improvement.

I think we know already that the last real progress on the AF system from K-5II to the K-3, and then K-3 to K-1 with 33 points.
Pentax KP has the same AF system with K-3, but improved algoritm. IMO, pentax has been making progress, but not that very fast. Perhaps they are going to use new AF for K-3 II replacement.
Imagine if Pentax KP has 65 AF points, for the midrange, and K-1 as the flagship has only 33 AF point ? It is going to ruin the sale of K-1.
Pentax is not the company that make the sale by the hype such as Fuji, by releasing quite number of products at the same time. Ricoh Imaging is different. They give opportunity for the productt o be in the market once after another. Right now it is time for Pentax KP, and you already show your dissastisfaction when you haven't try it yourself.
What you need to do is being patient for another 6 months. Well, even if Pentax K-3II replacement coming with new AF system, I don't know whether you will buy it or not. Maybe you will still compare it with D500, and then you will say this is not what you want. Your dream camera with dream AF system maybe is not coming from Pentax.

That is my impression also. Nikon Df is the only camera I considered if I switch to Nikon. But by the color, Nikon Df is better with its black. Like Iphone with jet-black.

I don't think it is replacement for K-3II. I rather agree with previous comment that said Pentax KP is the project that obtain green light from the executive. It has nothing significantly new, only the DSLR with new idea (as asahiman said). So it is the stop gap, before the K-3II replacement really coming. Perhaps new tech is not ready, and their focus right now is on the lenses, but has to show new product for CP+. So this is it.
In any case, the design is nice. It is the vibe for retro-look. Nikon has done it, Fuji has been doing it. And now Pentax. But, the most important thing is still its capabilities.
