Pentax 67II and 4pin cable

Hi forum,
Iīd like to know if itīs possible to fire a TTL-flash with an adapter for the Pentax 4Pin cable with the 5Pin cable? I got the Metz 45CT4 with the SCA Adapter, that alows to control the flash with the 4pin cable. But I am using the Pentax 67II with the 5 pin cable and Iīd like to use it with the Metz flash in TTL-mode...
Thanks for your reply!

In Germany we have this proverb: If the mountain is not coming to the prophet, the prophet has to come to the mountain. Following the sense of this proverb, I am using those opportunities for frog photos, that are taking me to different countries. Two years ago, I visited a relief project in India supported by the school I am working for. The guest house I was living in had a small lake and a small brook that was used for watering the cows of the neighbour farmers. I found and photographed two species close to the guest house. It was spring time and so both species formed choirs singing through the night.
First photo: Bufo melanostictus. Second photo: Fejervarya limnocharis. Both photos taken at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, Northern India. Gear: Pentax 645; extension tubes; Pentax 645 120mm Macro; Macro ring light; Fuji Velvia 100.

A great picture! So many different frogs in one night - you are really living in a great place. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to work for six years in Sidney - unfortunately, my wife didnīt want to leave our country (and her parents).
Whwn the agriculture in Germany was "industrialized" in the 1960s, many small humid habitats such as waterfilled trenches, swamps and small lakes disapeared - many formerly common amphibians desapeared as well and remained only in few isolatet natural habitats. Only the two "toughest" species Rana temporaria and Bufo bufo remained common, because they inhabit forests and gardens and donīt stick to very spacial habitats.

Pentax 67 TTL prism + TMax 400

I have the Pentax 67 TTL-prism for my Pentax 6x7. Iīd suggest testing with colour slide film, not BW-Negative film. This test shows you immediately if the finder is working or not. My TTL prism proved to be very reliable with all kinds of films.

Hi Wild Mark,
I also LOVE frogs since my early childhood and since I am taking photos, I take frog Photos where ever possible. Unfortunately, my place is much worse than yours for those like me loving amphibians and reptils - here in Germany, we have only 12 frog species and only 4 of them can be called "common"; the rest is heavily endangered, living in small, very isolated places and are rarly found. I have never seen 5 out of this number allthough I am always looking for frogs! Iīd really like to join you in one of your frog excursions in Australia - unfortunately you and your frog paradise are situated on the other side of the globe :( Here are some of my "Pentax-made" frog photos. The picture shows Bufo bufo - one of the most common frogs. It lives in very different areas and climates between Norway and Sweden and the mediterranean coast of North Africa. It only touches water when producing eggs. I took the pictures in the Black forest area in Germany and they are showing the amplexus and several male fighting for one female (there are many more male than female toads when arriving at the reproduction sites)

Using outer bay tubes

Thank you, Phil.
The Autobellows has also this outer bayonett of the lenses you are mentioning. One of the extension tubes is needed, because the AE-Finder of the 67II is protruding and thus colliding with the bellows, whereas the prism finders of the 6x7 are not protruding. This is why Pentax recommends using one of the outer bayonet tubes when using the Autobellows.
It was hard to find them and when I found them, they where horrbly expensive: 200 €.....

Hi,
I luckily got a set of these super rare outer bay tubes for my Pentax 67 system. I looked for them, because itīs much easier to put the 67II with AE-Finder on the Pentax autobellows than without (it works as opposed to the 67II manual, but it takes to disconnect the AE-Finder before attaching the Autobellows). Now I wonder how to use the outer bay tubes. One part can be turned quiet many times. How do you use them?

67 versus 645 for shift adaptor

If you are interested in Tilt-shift-effects Iīll recommend buying a largeformat-camera in the used market. They are much better for this purpose and used, theyīll be much less expensive than tilt-shift-lenses and probably even then those adapters. I bought two largefornat-cameras last year: One 13x18 cm for about 120 Euros and a 4x5inches for 199 Euro. They are filmbased of course, but you have a 13x18cm or 9x12cm "sensor" (which will outperform any digital sensor) and far better tilt- and shift-possibilities!

Rent or Borrow a 67/6x7?

The dicision between the Pentax 6x7-system and a Mamiya RB 67 isnīt an easy one. Thatīs why I own both cameras and I would not sell one system for the other :-)
The rotating back of the RB 67 is a great thing to have. If I would get forced to sell one system for keeping just one, I would maintain the Pentax system for the bigger choice of lenses and acessory.

In my opinion, renting a Pentax 6x7 (or 67 or the great 67II) isnīt necessary, if you are interested in Medium format photography. You wonīt regret buying a Pentax 6x7. Youīll enter the largest choice of lenses and accessory in the Medium Format world. Many of the so called issues like mirror slap and shutter shake always causing blurred pictures are myths. If it would not have been possible to take great, razor sharp pictures with it, Pentax would not have been able to produce the Pentax 67 system for exactly fourty years (!) in a world full of MF-competitors!

Salamndra atra. A salamander that can only be found in the Alps. It gives birth to two fully developed young after beeing pragnant for almost two years, because it lives in areas with long winters, not allowing more then four to five months of activity per year. "great shot, bet lots of patience paid off, I love Macro work"

If you mean my toad-foto - thank you very much! It is not easy to take a close up photo of croaking toad. Normally, toads stop croaking or they even dive away, when a much bigger "animal" comes as close as a photographer with a Macro lens and extension tube does. In addition, I had to enter into a small creek, that was normally used for washing the huge, buffalo-like cows of the indian farmers. In order to get close enough to this toad for taking a good photo, the muddy water reached my belly.

Urgent flash question

Thank you, Phil!
Well, thatīs a serious drawback of the Pentax 67IIs conception in my eyes. Non-TTL-flashmetering makes it nearly impossible to use the Pentax 67-Auto bellows for living macro photography subjects. Macro photography subjects with a different than an all-black background would have been really great.
Best wishes,
Ole

Urgent flash question

Hi,
I want to depart to the croatian coast tomorrow in order to take photos of insects, lizards, etc. I mostly use a TTL-metered ringlight on my Pentax 67II. I always had the camera switch automatically to the sync speed. But how works slow speed (EVEN slower than the sync speed of 1/30 sec)? The manual says for slow speed sync flash photography: "set the cameraīs exposure mode to the Metered Manual Mode" Does this mean TTL-metered flash photography isnīt possible below 1/30 sec?? Please: Pentax 67II users - help me figuring this out! I have no time to expose a test roll before travelling... Silly me, I know....
Thanks for saving me :)

I own both the 645 and the 645N. I got the 120mm Macro (with 3 extension tubes), since Macro Photography is mostly what I do. The cameras and the lens are great. But I stopped buying Pentax 645 lenses. I only buy Pentax 6x7 lenses. They are working very good with my Pentax 645 cameras via an adapter (and they are mostly cheaper) and I have the option to buy and use a Pentax 6x7 camera and then I can use my lenses for both camera systems; the other way round does not work. I soon got the Pentax 6x7 and 67ii and I am glad, that I made my lens choice like this.

Hi,
I had the same worries, because itīs the same with mine (I have the #3, sprung loaded, and the #1). I was told, that this is normal; they are just always built like this. The #1 pin is light ebough to be properly moved without sprung.

@arnold: Thank you! I used no artficial lightning. Itīs just the light coming through the train window. I was not able to use a tripod or monopod because of the limited space; I tried my best with 1/60 sec with small expectations concerning the picture quality. For me, the result destroys the myth saying that itīs impossible to use the Pentax 6x7 handheld...
