I really appreciate Pentax step to release a SDK but just one question... Is there anything the SDK is capable of that libgphoto2 hasn't already implemented?

nice and thanks for that insight, it came 4 years to late for me :o. Back then I sent my K5 to "Spencers Camera" from Germany to the US. That was very painfull but after 4 or 5 months or so of waiting without communication and putting me off I got a working full spectrum camera back. Nowadays I would definitely try by myself. I did a Canon EOS700D full spectum modification without any issues. I sold my modified K5 some years ago (for a quite good price) due to the lack of libgphoto2 support and changed my astrophotography cam to canon.

I found your first video not so bad except the video stabilisation.
The baseball video is exactly the reason why I gave up using it to record videos with Pentax later than K5. The jaggieness is all over the video and destroys everything and make the video look like an old Hi8 camcorder video.
K5 was absolutely excellent in my eyes regarding video quality and compression
My 2012 HTC Sensation makes way better fullhd videos than my K3.

Sorry for digging out this old thread but today I encountered the same blinking Pentax charger with my original K3 battery.
And I think I know the reason why it was blinking (in my case). Prior I had my K3 connected to my computer via USB. I just forgot to plug it out and power it off. My guess is there is no or at least a very bad control of the charge status of the battery while the K3 is connected via USB and it seems to not power off the camera in time just before the current drops to low for the battery and maybe destroy it permanently, I dont know.
Nevertheless after pluging in the battery into the charger the blinking disappeared after 3 Minutes and it charged normally.

Hi there,
I was just going through my New Year's Eve fireworks images (my first fireworks shoots at all) as I noticed some heavy jaggieness in it. I shoot with an K3 and without AA-Filter. They can be seen easy in the long fireworks trails.
Is this normal for an K3 without AA-Filter enabled? I know fireworks is a special lightning situation. I can see the same jaggieness in my raw viewer (ufraw) so I guess this is not dye raw conversion.

I croped an 100% example:

Is this limited to Windows or will it work on Linux (natively) as well?

nice, BUT a bit disappointing that the photographer did not stick closer to the aperture of the old photos to improve the slider effect.

The problem is the focus from the sensor to the first glass element of the lens. If you remove the IR-CUT filter for full spectrum you need to replace it with clear glass with the exact refractive index plus some adjustments to compensate the different wave length into the NIR area. I think this cant be simply done by adding a filter in front of the lens.
Further if you also want to go back to normal VIS shooting with your fullspectrum it might not be enough to just add an Hotmirror/IR-Cut Filter in front of the Lens. If you shoot wideangle or something below ~25mm you will notice strong color vignetting in the images, as I encounterd with my converted K5. This is because the coating of the hot-mirror works angle-dependend. This problem is known to a lot of Hotmirror-Filters. Canon has the advantage of simple clip filters which are placed directly over the sensor. I have not seen something simmilar for Pentax.

I've done full spectrum conversion with my Canon 700. This was not too hard and I had nothing to solder. But I would never do it on my Pentax.
Here is an very good video where you can get an idea of the conversion of an Canon. You Tube |

EDIT.: If you apply for an conversion at "Spencers Camera" I would recommend to think twice... They did conversion of my K5. It was working but not very cheap, quite a lot of import tax and a looooooooot of time.

I like that cloud color. It reminds me of the nitrogen dioxide fumes diluting copper in nitric acid.
