question about online vendors...

I puchased my k10d from Abes in February. I must admit I hadn't thoroughly researched beforehand and was worried. However, my k10d arrived in I believe 8 days. I did not receive any calls soliciting me to buy other products, and my credit card was charged the appropriate amount, and only when it was shipped. It arrived in fine condition, so no problems at all.

I had no reason to contact customer service, so can't speak to that.

Thanks John. Your photos are great. I will definitely be trading my Kenko 2x in, maybe for a Kenko 1.5. I would love to find your Tamron 1.4x, maybe will check out Ebay.

I've only had my k10d for a couple of months, so am learning. I ordered a Kenko 2x teleconverter and received it yesterday. I tried it out on my Pentax DA 50-200mm lens yesterday and wasn't thrilled. Just some quick shots to see what it did. I enjoy doing mostly bird photography on the river. Images didn't seem to focus. So my question -

Am I doing something wrong? I had camera in autofocus, did some manual focusing first. I was just doing hand held photos.

Am I expecting too much? Or should I just send it back and put the money toward a Bigma?

Thanks. Keep in mind that I'm new to this.

Welcome, there's lots of good information here. I got my k10d a little over a month ago, so can't comment on the k100d. The k10d was my first dslr. I do alot of bird photography and it's been great.

I got mine about a month ago from Abes of Maine. They still have the kit for $725 or the body only for $659.

You're not far. I teach in Florissant, hoping for a snow day today though. There are alot of eagles right here at Alton, more on the Missouri side of the bridge. There are supposed to be alot at Grafton also. I know Pere Marquette State Park has eagle programs. Here is a link to some of my photos.

Thanks Gus. I am getting the kit lens, and a Pentax 50-200mm to start out. Too many to choose from right now, until I understand them a little better. I know I will need something bigger for the birds, but I'll work my way up.

The eagles are all over the place right now. We also have pelicans, geese, trumpeter swans, etc.

I'm almost a Pentax user. I'm moving up from my Kodak z612. I just ordered my k10d on the recommendation of some very good friends of the Kodak board. I've not used a dslr before, so will definitely be a learning experience.

I live only a few blocks from the Mississippi River, so love taking photos of the river and all the birds here. Right now we have lots of bald eagles.

So hope to visit this forum often.
