If you want a good cheap lens, go for a smc pentax-m 50mm f1.7. For me one of the best for the price ;)

The sharpness and saturation and picture profile doesn't affect the image when shooting RAW.

My most recent acquisition are two beautiful lenses one SMC Pentax-M 50mm f1.7 , and a Focal 28mm f2.8 i'a, surprised with the smc, really good lens for low price. The focal is as expected, nice lens for wider shots.

I don't have any problem with k30's H.264, the problem is with the bitrate, maximum of around 20Mbps at 30fps. If they want to change the codec ok, high quality m-jpeg, but if they upgrade just the bitrate, ok too. Just a little bit more video quality. And manual controls for the k5.

Better compression or another codec would be nice. And in the K5 manual controls. The last firmware is two weeks old but it just updates the AF...

When i was about to buy the K30 i watched some videos from Canon cameras, the image quality is fine, smooth defined borders and good compression (40-50Mbps at 24fps) in the other hand, the pentax K30 lacks half the compression (20-25Mbps at 30fps) and the image is not so smooth. But while the canon have better compression, the saturation and contrast are really awful, it looks like there are only 256 colors on canon video and the contrast is so high that a lot of details are lost, only the bigger size highly contrasted things are in good shape.
Putting the two images in balance i prefer a beautiful, well reproduced image lacking smoothness than a saturated highly contrasted one, but i still have hope that pentax is going to release a firmware with at least 40-50Mbps video compression and with that upgrade, no dslr camera could beat Pentax in video mode :) C'mon Pentax, make us happy!!!!

Yes, in fact i asked because of that. I can barely see artifacts in your video, and i thought it was 30fps. My camera shows really ugly artifacts at 24 and 25 but at 30 it is more acceptable video. Nice work!

Wojojojo.... Nice! I hope they keep the good work :)
PD: If someone else is getting this artifacts with their k30, try the 30fps mode. The artifacts are so reduced that you can hardly notice them.

I post this examples. The first image is just one frame previous (or after i don't remember) to the next image, full of artifacts.

thinking on what you've said i checked the video settings, they were almost the same (1/50, different f (3.5- 6), ISO 100-200, and sharpness (-4 vs 0)) i shot another two videos with the same settings as with the v1 firmware and the artifacts were there. I've seen some videos on internet with movement and light changes but they have no artifacts. What i'm going to try is downgrading firmware from 1.03 to 1.01 and shot another videos to check the differences. Any further suggestions?

Hi! i've just purchased a K30 and i've been testing it. I have no complains about the still images, they are just great. On the video side there are some questions. I shot a couple of videos with the firmware 1.00 and there were almost no artifacts. I upgraded to firmware v1.03 and the artifacts are making a party on all the movements and light changes. You can notice them even with the video reproduction. Does anyone else have noticed this? Does somebody know if Pentax is going to improve video bitrate? I think that the video bitrate update would be just fine; is a change in the firmware numbers from 15-20Mbps to 40-50Mbps, just add another star to the video quality and that's it, people happy. What do you think about this?
