I have 3 copies of yashinon ds 50 1.9. Contrast and color signatures are different from each copy. I tried to open them and to my surprise they have different hardwares. Two of my copies has aluminum barrel thread and one has plastic. The best image rendering ( which I think is relative ) comes from the one with plastic barrel while the ones with aluminum barrel are prone to glare. I was about to conclude that the one with the plastic barrel is a later production but it wasn't the case. My copies of the earliest and the latest has aluminum barrel while the one in between has plastic barrel. Or maybe I am wrong as one can easily replace or exchange the glasses. One more thing , the coating seems to be different among the three.

Thank you for the quick response
I happen to also own olympus epl2. and 2nd curtain sync works even with adapted legacy lenses. Its just that I prefer the image quality of my k5 and that is what this inquiry is all about. I wonder if anyone from this forum has tried using 2nd curtain sync with non A lenses.

I've been using my k5 for almost 4 years now but it is only now that I discovered that the option for 2nd curtain flash sync is disabled if non A lens is attached to the body. I do have one AF lens and a few manual A lenses and a non pentax external flash but I often times want to use 2nd curtain sync on my non A lenses
My question is Is there a work around on this? Also I am contemplating on buying another apsc pentax body.
My considerations are efficient focus peaking with tilting lcd and manual flash control for manual lenses addressing my flash issues on k5 and of coarse no known mechanical or hardware issues.

After k10d; succeeding flagships were named with prime numbers or as one poster mentioned skipped one number from the previous model. Anyway I am not a fanboy as I am also using Olympus but I love how Pentax name their flagships. Simple and uncomplicated, very easy to remember and pronounce yet sounds mean with solid features. K1 sounds perfect name to me as FF precursor. Equates to words like prime, genesis, alpha, una and so on

Did they miss or just failed and abandoned the idea developing such camera? The closest are the gxr a12 m module and k01

I agree that the upcomming FF will not be mirrorless but I hope that they would make one. The size of K5 is already big and straining for those with small hands. For those who are already comfortable with the size of say ks2 I think mirrorless is the way to go to fit a FF sensor to such a compact dslr otherwise it will be thicker

Ok. I got 2 answers both of which has nothing to do with IQ ergonomics and operability. So why not another bigger sensor Pentax mirror less and make use of mirror less advantage over dslr.
Its interesting I got only 2 almost similar answers when nayseyers have infinite reasons why they don t like mirror lesd ---------- Post added 09-15-15 at 01:09 AM ---------- Ok. green hexagon and metering values )
be retained if the stock FS is replaced

This is interesting. What image did you get shooting at 1/400s with other brands? Were you using sensor smaller than micro 4/3?
I am referring to situations where ambient light is too weak and flash is almost the only light that matters and not just to fill in

You can. Use base ISO and narrow aperture and even if you use external flash you can not raise your speed beyond 1/300 or somewhere near without getting a total black or cut out image. This is at least from my experience

I just ordered from amazon two days ago and the screen is still available. I think he was referring to the modified ( cut specifically for Pentax APS size ) screens sold by focusingscreens.com which is currently not available. ---------- Post added 08-28-15 at 05:27 PM ----------
Thanks for the response and sharing your experience. I already have the Canon and waiting for the Nikon focusing screen I just ordered. I intend to cut these as described somewhere in this forum.

Does anybody tried comparing the canon s vs nikon k3 focusing screen on their pentax body. As i understand the only edge of canon s over stock screen is focusing wider than f2 and no advantage thereafter. Some also mentioned nikon k3 is as good as katzeye and the split focus of k3 is very effective but no mention about metering. Can anyone here confirm this

Well what you just did is already a good reason for Pentax to make an Adaptall camera body. To sell cameras to people who has old or new lenses regardless of mount design and doesn't need new ones. I do agree that lenses are more profitable but if you are already having a hard time selling your lenses because majority of the market is already using other lens brands , then make a body that can accept these lenses. It is better to be able to sell something than not being able to sell anything at all. Given the chance to choose between Sony A7 vs a hypothetical FF or APS Pentax mirrorless with EVF equipped with IBIS and and standard hotshoe and can accept different mount designs not to mention that Pentax is relatively cheaper feature-feature. Which do you think will sell?
Of course this doesn't necessarily mean that Pentax is abandoning their lenses which is contrary because being able to sell camera bodies is as good as promoting your name along with your other products. ---------- Post added 08-16-15 at 01:45 AM ----------
Shorter registration distance = versatility
Ergonomics in terms of size is relative. If you have a child say 12 years old whom you want to impart your passion for photography, an average DSLR may not be ergonomically acceptable. Not all shooters have big strong hands and bones.
Not all mirrorless users buy mirrorless only because of the size or being pocketable. Again one reason is versatility.
I do however agree that it is hard to use long lenses with mirrorless bodies but then again that's just me
cheers

I'd love to have one. Actually Ricoh does't have to make a new lens line or mount for smaller and thinner body. All they have to do is make a proprietary K mount adapter or coupler that is electronically wired to make those K mount lenses work AF or not. If I am not mistaken metabones made an adapter for Canon lenses to work with the latest A7 model. If Pentax follows this path, she has the advantage of a more mature SR implementation( the K5 I'm using has a very effective SR ) and better image rendering over Sony ( this is a bit subjective ). With the kind of image rendering Pentax offers, she could attract non Pentax users to try Pentax bodies without abandoning their current lens collection. And for those who want a bigger body for balance and ergonomics, Pentax may implement provisions for an ergonomically designed battery grip with full functions. So you have a body you can use whether you want big or small, a non Pentax lens or a Pentax lens. I think Pentax should be developing/improving their own EVF so that when they decide to offer mirrorless line with bigger sensor than the Q, like resurrecting the K01, they are ready.
