Wanting a lens for closer focusing, some macro ability would be nice at times. I would appreciate your thoughts and experiences. A friend is also curious about how well the extension tubes work for macro work.

I have a K-5 and mostly shoot an 18-135. But there are times when I need a longer focal length, I believe that I want 300 at the long end, just don't see that 200 would be much advantage over the 135. Has anyone tried/compared the Pentax 55-300 either DA or DA-L, to either Tamron or Sigma 70 - 300? Would like to hear what others think of these. Thanks.

Where to get battery?

Thank you all for your replies. The Wasabi battery and charger deal sounds exactly like what I am looking for. I too am not crazy about the corded charger, so I'll look forward to a less complicated charger to carry in my bag. One more quick question, will the OEM battery charge in the Wasabi charger? Thanks.

I would like to get an additional battery for my recently aquired K-5. I am unsure of where to go to purchase it, also want to be sure that I get something that will work as it is supposed to. Where should I go to? Also are there any good quality non Pentax brands that are dependable?

Thank you all for your responses, I appreciate knowing that the K-30 also has problems with this issue. I would be interested to hear if Pentax has acknowledged that there is a problem, and if they have any potential solutions. Also it will be interesting to see if this same issue pops up in the K5II and K5IIs.

I checked at this site, the date of manufacture for my camera was just last July. The doubt in my mind is the worst part of it, just not knowing when or if it will happen again. Does anyone know if this has been an issue with the K 30's? I am still within the grace period with Adorama and could return or exchange it.

K-5 froze up

A couple of days ago I was out taking some pics in our deep snow with my new K-5, less than a week old and under 100 pictures. It was cool but not cold. I had just taken a series, and went over to another subject and the camera just froze/locked up. I couldn't make any adjustments, and it wouldn't even turn off to reset. I thought perhaps it was too cold so put it in the bag and brought it back into the house. After over an hour it still would not turn off. Finally I removed the battery and when I put it back in everything was back to normal. I have viewed some of the previous threads about this issue, but have not seen any definitive answers on why this occurs. Does anyone have any feedback from Pentax or a repair shop?

I bought my first SLR, a Pentax Spotmatic II before I left Viet Nam years ago, hence the old part. The Wiley part came with the family I was born into, no I am not canny or sly. And I have raised dairy goats for years now and make some awesome cheese, that's the goat part. For the past several years I've been using the Panasonic bridge cameras, FZ-35 and FZ-150, and even though they are great cameras and have turned out some incredible photos, I kept thinking I could maybe do even more. So I am waiting for my K-5 to be delivered from Adorama, hopefully tomorrow. I might also add that I've used Topaz for several years now and it is absolutely incredible!
