Book Review
As suggested by Damn Brit

Advanced Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Digital Photographers by Philip Andrews

I agree completely with this quote:
"This book is detailed, comprehensive and inspirational, making it the perfect accessory for those who've recently invested in the fifth installment of the Elements program" - What Digital Camera April 07

I just returned this book back to my local library and it is very comprehensive. It is labeled advanced but it is more of a how to book. There are pages of detailed procedures on how to do just about anything to your images that you want. Each subject is covered in one or more pages with illustrations and before and after photos.

The book is superbly illustrated with hundreds of color photographs.

* Produce professional results quickly from your raw files with a complete workflow solution based around Elements.
* Produce darkroom effects digitally
* Transform your photographs with step-by-step, illustrated color tutorials into results that will amaze you (and your friends, family, colleagues, and customers)
* Increase your productivity with timesaving tips, workarounds, and advice to create an efficient, smooth workflow
* Master professional retouching techniques
* Create awesome panoramas
* Much, much more

Companion website Advanced Photoshop Elements for Digital Photographers including practice images and video tutorials provides even more tools to hone your skills with

* Images for you to manipulate as you follow step-by-step book projects
* Video tutorials and printable lesson plans
* Links for examples, updates, and further learning
* Raw and 16-bits/Channel files to examine and put to the test
* And more!

I have been using Photoshop Elements 3.0 since it came out and needed an upgrade so I purchased Photoshop Elements 6.0 last month. What a great improvement!

Sale is pending for both as of this morning. Price reduction - SanDisk MicroMate USB 2.0 SD Reader Set - New never used

I have more card readers than I need so these new ones are up for sale. SD card not included.

Supports SD and SDHC at Hi-Speed USB
Set includes: reader, storage cap, mini key ring, padded SanDisk carrying case and RescuePRO Version 3.3 data recovery software on mini CD as from the factory, not a copy but the original disk with serial number ready to register and use. RescuePRO recovers images, documents, mail, video, music and other digital files.

Ultra small and thin design. For SD, MiniSD MicroSD
It is designed for accessing and transferring data between a computer and memory-enabled mobile devices.
It has been designed to handle the newer, higher-capacity SDHC cards, as well as earlier generations of SD cards. It is the recommended reader for SanDisk Extreme III cards (SanDisk best SD cards) but works with all SD cards.

It comes with a transparent plastic cap that protects the USB plug; when you remove the cap to plug the MicroMate into your computer, the cap fits on and over the slot on the rear of the MicroMate (and over an SD card that you might have inserted there), so that you don't lose it.

Also works with a Mac but … According to SanDisk, Mac users must insert the card into the reader BEFORE inserting the reader into the computer.

Works great with SDHC cards... but if your USB port is recessed, you may not be able to plug it in all the way. Be sure to check this as you may need to purchase a little 3-inch USB extender cable.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Connection
• USB 2.0 port required for Hi-Speed transfer

Minimum Operating System Support
• PC or Macintosh computer with USB support
• Windows 2000, XP, or Vista operating system
• Mac OS X v10.1.2+

CONNECTING
Connecting the MicroMate Reader/Writer to the USB port is simple. Plug the MicroMate Reader/Writer into the computer directly.

Helpful Tidbit from Vestige :cool:

An interesting thing about binoculars is they are very helpful in deciding what focal length to use to take a photo. As a general rule a 50mm focal length lens is equal to one power. Therefore an 8X (power) binocular is very similar, but not exactly the same as a 400mm in framing and look. Also a 6X binocular is very similar to a 300mm lens. Plus a binocular can help see further than your eye which many times can help you decide if you need to walk and get closer to the subject for a different perceptive. The above is a good tidbit to remember and keep.

I do not work for Pentax but I have used a Pentax 8X30 monocular for many years because it is high quality and easy to carry. I purchased a pair of Leitz 8x40 Trinovid binoculars years before I knew about Pentax binoculars and I still use them today. They really do help in large open spaces like in the southwest USA.

Best Compact Fluorescent for photography?

You can get true daylight balanced fluorescents in many sizes including compact fluorescent lamps today. Make sure to purchase 5500°K lamps and not just lamps marked daylight.
Most color film is balanced for midday with 2/3 of sun and sky which is the same as 5500°K

Higher Kelvin color temperatures are bluer in color and lower Kelvin color temperatures are yellow and orange. If you get them all the same it will be easier to color balance.

For more info look at the Kodak Professional Photoguide.

Hope this helps.
