I can't see any difference. Actually I was thinking this 20MP sensor could be sharper than the 24MP one in the K3 - same situation with Sony A3000 vs A6000. But from the pictures here K-S2 and K-3 seem to be about the same. Thanks for sharing.

You're right on about smoothness - coming from a K-01, which produces really smooth IQ, I'm still amazed by what the K-5 IIs can do. It has a full frame look to it. Clean, sharp, with great dynamic range. The best APS-C camera ever!

Black Jack!
Which also hints at the great gamble Pentax took. And lost :D

I had AF problem with my 1st K-01, which was sent back for a replacement. Your problem seems to be similar to mine - focuses intermittently, and not an issue with lens. I'd send it in for repair.

I've been using it for just a few days, but really impressed by this version. I've had a hard time in Lightroom 4 with white balance on images from my K-01, and severe color wierdness from my NEX-5R. Loaded the same RAW files into Capture One and it got white balance and color spot on most of the time. Love the skin tone accuracy. Auto adjust also really works, with just a bit too heavy contrast that's easy to dial down. Another thing is color noise in shadow - I saw a lot less green noise in Capture One. Maybe I just don't know how to effectively get rid of them in Lightroom, but Capture One just works by default, saving me a bunch of time.

I've had a Sunpak PF20XD for a while now. It's an auto thyristor, compact, and very easy to use. It has 5 levels of manual output, which work very well for outdoor fill flash. Takes 2 AAA batteries and they seem to last forever :) Does not bounce, but the built-in diffuser does help.

Wow, I haven't been here for quite a while, and things don't change much - people who don't use the K-01 continue to bash, and those who do continue to love it :) I've been using my NEX-5R a bit more than my K-01, but there's just not an ounce of merit in calling it a piece of garbage. Auto focus speed with updated firmware is definitely workable. Stabilization is great. Image quality is fantastic, and all I got are cheap lenses - the most expensive one is my FA 50mm 1.4. Bought an anti-glare screen protector, and I can use the LCD under direct sun light. I don't feel the need for an EVF.
My NEX is probably a bit better tool to take pictures, but the K-01 isn't just a tool. It's a work of art that happen to have a bonus feature of taking excellent quality pictures.

This is what I do with my K-01 these days. A 24mm would be fantastic too, but usually much more expensive than 28mm. I have a Sigma Super Wide II 24mm, but it's sensitive bright light even with a hood. Skin tone is often blown out if the sun is behind me.
I have a bunch of 28mm's from different brands, but when it comes to color the SMC coating is the real deal.

If you get the K-01 we'll have 3 things in common :D Sigma Mini Wide is fantastic. Close focus and very sharp. I'm not very impressed with the 40mm XS either. Could be because of the magenta cast, or too much contrast. Or it could be that I'm a sucker for looks, and the K-01 looks way better with old manuals than the awkwardly tiny 40.

K-01, a 28mm, and a 50mm make the perfect kit for me. I use a small belt pouch to hold one lens. Sometimes I'll bring along the 40mm XS too just in case I need AF.
K-01 looks great with old manual lenses, much better than with the tiny 40mm XS.

A50/1.7. If I'm not careful I might fall in love with it. And the A50/1.4 might stop talking to me :) IMGP4324.jpg by greenkakapo, on Flickr

Which I committed on a much cheaper Five Star 28mm acquired on Ebay :D It works decently enough on my K-01, but under some lighting condition the camera goes nuts with its non-stop stop down/open up squinting act.

Or aquire an A lens and use its ball. That way you have 2 usable lenses :) Clickless aperture might be cool for video - has anyone tried?

Years back when I had a Canon Rebel DSLR, I had the 50mm f1.8 which is known to be very sharp for its low price. I was very happy with it, but out of curiosity bought the cheapest of all L lenses - 70-200 f4 zoom, to see if L series lives up to what's been said about them. And there was quite big a gap in image quality. The L was clearly superior in contrast and color rendering. Like it was said here many times, that improvements in IQ of course did nothing to improve my photography skills. But it did make it easier and more enjoyable.

Wow. Great shot. Reminds me of Christmas season. What's that plant called? I'd like one in my backyard :)
Regarding LBA, I started out underestimating its gripping power by a whole lot :D Now it takes some real will power not to browse fleabay of or buy/sell section here a couple times a day. At least.
And thank you for the tip on embedding Flickr images. I'll try it out next time.

Well THoog, I have a love-hate relationship with your hack of masking the lens contacts with a piece of tape. On the one hand it greatly add usability to all my non-A lenses, making them even more awesome on the K-01. On the other hand it cruelly impedes my recovery from LBA :D I've somehow accumulated 10 or so of such lenses is just over a month, thinking I'd just sell the ones I don't really like. But now with them all being so usable, it's much harder to let any of them go. So there, thank you and I really hate you :D
