K-5 water damage!

My K-5 is finally back from repairs that took three months to complete.

I sent it claiming water damage due to use under heavy rain. They confirmed early on that the repair would be covered under warranty. What they didn't tell me was that their aprts department in Arizona was about to move from one warehouse to another, causing extreme delays in processing. After several angry phone calls, Pentax finally agreed to extend my warranty by three months before sending me my K-5 in working condition.

In conclusion, I suspect the water may have entered by the viewfinder...

So, shitty customer service and shitty communications, but at least the damage was covered!

One more thing: is it possible they were using my camera as a scapegoat to develop improved water sealing on the new K-3?

June photo contest submission: "Victoria Jubilee Bridge"

This photo was taken in early June on a photoshoot along Montréal, Québec's south banks. The Victoria Jubilee Bridge was inaugurated in 1860 and used to be the longest bridge in the world. I caught it here by luck on a sunny day with coulds in the sky, as a CN train was entering the Montréal side of the bridge. The Autoroute Bonaventure, which leads to the Champlain bridge, is also visible below the Victoria bridge on this picture.

Photo taken on ISO 200 film with a Pentax K1000 camera and SMC Pentax-M 100mm f/2.8 lens.

Shutter speed: 1/250s
Aperture: f/8

Scanned using an Epson V600 flat bed scanner.
Post-processing done in Lightroom 4.3.

Of course :P I was using the 18-55 kit lens. I suspect a faulty seal is to blame but I can't be sure until Pentax sees it.

I was shooting in a dusty environment with my K-5 the other day. When I got back home, into the shower it went, as per the many promotional and amateur videos of Pentax cameras being hosed down or put under sinks/showers/etc. The camera was very clean afterwards but the autofocus stopped working, soon followed by the shutter and then visible water accumulation and fogging in the viewfinder.

Pentax claim they need to see the camera before giving me any sort of answer. It is still under warranty so I'll be sending it in for repairs. I will keep you posted.
