I've been spending some time on Astrophotography. It's not something you need to spend a government mint on to get started in. You just need a solid tripod and preferably a cable shutter release. Sure, the hobby can get very expensive fast though. I'm still not into that territory. Flickr: dslrninja's stuff tagged with astrophotos05052010
Generally, using a wide-angle lens is best when getting started as you can take longer exposures before you see noticeable blur in the image. That image above was taken with the Pentax 10-17mm fisheye lens. Larger aperture lenses are also good so you can take shorter exposures while still getting decent detail.
I took this shot of the moon recently with a K-7, DA* 300mm and 1.5x Kenko TC: The Moon | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Here is a blog entry I wrote on the subject recently.

You mean like this?:
For lightning, you do have to get lucky, but you also have to plan your shot carefully.
I disagree. For action (sports, kids, etc) there is a good part of luck involved, but for many other styles you don't need to snap like crazy ;)

I have both the K28/3.5 and the 6x7 75/4.5 shift lenses.
The K28/3.5 is very useful on a FF film camera and is recommended.
The 6x7 75/4.5 is the FF equivalent of 38mm, which is not as wide as the 28mm, but never the less fine on a Pentax 6x7 film camera.
Like always when you use these old lenses on the camera they were designed for they are great, when you try and use them on a cropped sensor not so much. One day when a 35mm FF comes out these old classics will be in demand again.

No doubt mirrorless is smaller, but a compact FF the size of this canon with a big viewfinder and the 3 FA limiteds would make a killer combo. Pity canon doesn't have anything like the FA limiteds.

Yet another Spotomatic F to add to the bunch. I have the typical SMC Taks to go with it and will do a shot with them next. |

Difficult one that for me, I have two choices either Canon or Nikon. ;)
I have to use both on occasion, through the course of my work as photographic tools, but for my pleasure, I use Pentax.

Walking around Del Mar, California. A beautiful clear day, postcard-blue sky. Outside the pricey Hotel L'Auberge, overlooking the sea. A young guy, draped with some sort of heavy-duty Canikon gear explosion. He looks at me:
"Hey, dude! Good to see someone's still shooting film! That's a way cool camera!"
I smiled, and went inside for a coffee and croissant.

It's a okey lens especially if one consider what you can find this for.
But quite far from the best normal prime lens.
Gets a lot of glow at closer focus etc.
Can find a lot more and hi res test pictures on my blog: Ricoh Riconar 55mm f/2.2 Review |

I don't use your standard b&w film for these test pix.
Its AGFA CINEREX (X-ray film)
Not a film for normal use and it have a very low speed.
It's bairly a ISO 25 film and I shoot it at ISO 12.
I mostly use kodak Tri-X for my normal use.
If you want cheap film I would go for the Rollei RPX 100 or 400
But these are very grainy with some developers.
Like D76 but have read that x-tol work quite well.
Or ofcourse there own developer made for this film :)

The last shot is much, much better in color. Actually it's a very good photo -- captures the foggy mood perfectly.
Since you ask for feedback, I'll go on a limb. Have you considered cropping the ducks?

I love to read "Ricehigh Ramblings" !!:D I drank a lot of booze in my younger days, but have never done any drugs, never even smoked a joint (do you guys still call them "joints"?) .
Sometimes I get curious about those "Magic Mushrooms" and that LSD and the effect on the brain, the disorientation, confusion, and all those pretty colors you see when you are on a "Trip". Still not interested in doing drugs, so I just go to Ricehigh's Blog and read away! In no time my brain gets the same effect....and it's all free!
Regards!:)
