I switched from Aperture to Capture One Pro and then Capture One 21. I only upgrade every 2-3 versions. However, I don't have Raw files, as I (more or less) only use film!
Rather than Photoshop, I use Affinity Photo, which does everything else I occasionally need.

I think I had a Tamron 24-48 once, a chunky little lens. I had read somewhere else about the problems attaching a filter, though I don't remember from my example. What I do remember is that TTL metering with that lens on gave results about a stop lower than with on of my Pentax 50s. I couldn't understand it at the time, but it helped me get the difference between F and T stops. I do agree that it's probably a bit wide for a PL and grads...

Thanks for the replies, everyone
Thanks, that's a useful thread I hadn't found. It listed a few zooms with non-rotating front elements. Ignoring the AF ones, these apparently include:
Vivitar Series 1 VMC 28-90 / 2.8-3.5
Vivitar Series 1 28-105
Tamron Adaptall-2 28-200mm type 171A
Makinon MC 28-80mm f/3.5
A couple of these are described as very big and heavy, but I will investigate further, thanks.

The last year or so I've been enjoying using a couple of "normal range" zooms on my Pentax MX and LX cameras. First I had the M 35-70, until I fell over on some rocks and dented its focus ring. Now I have a Vivitar 35-70, which is lighter and nearly as nice to use. However, both of these lenses have rotating front elements.
Later this year we're going on a walking holiday in Switzerland. A zoom in the 28-80 range (roughly) could be very useful. However, I'd also like to be able to use a polariser and/or grad filters while out. This is pretty hard to do with a rotating front element (and on the Vivitar the front element moves fairly freely). So I started looking for an alternative zoom I could take with me.
Normally the lens reviews on Pentaxforums have all the information you'd need about lenses, but it appears they don't list whether the front element rotates. In some cases I've found where reviewers have specifically mentioned that the element does rotate, and that's ruled out several of the Tamron Adaptall-2 zooms AFAICS. I've found nothing that confirms other SMC M and SMC A zoom front elements do or don't rotate, though I'm beginning to suspect they do.
A member on another site has suggested the Kiron 28-105 front element does not rotate, but it's apparently pretty heavy.
The zooms of interest to me where I found evidence in the reviews of front rotation are:
Tamron Adaptall-2 35-135mm f/3.5-4.5 (40A)
Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 35-80mm F2.8-3.8 (01A)
SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm F3.5
Tamron Adaptall-2 35-70mm F3.5 CF Macro (17A)
Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 35-105mm f/2.8 (65A)
Tamron Adaptall-2 35-135mm f/3.5-4.2 (22A)
Tamron Adaptall-2 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 (09A)
SMC Pentax 45-125mm F4
Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 60-300mm f/3.8-5.4 (23A)
Tamron Adaptall-2 70-150mm f/3.5 (20A)
(Also Pentax-M 35-70, Vivitar 35-70mm F2.8-3.8, Tamron-f 85-210/4.5 and Tokina SZ-X 80-200, which I have or had.)
The lenses I am interested in include:
Sigma 24-135mm F2.8-4.5
SMC Pentax-A 24-50mm F4
SMC Pentax-A 28-80mm F3.5-4.5
SMC Pentax-M 75-150mm F4
Tamron Adaptall-2 28-70mm F/3.5-4.5 (44A)
Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 24-48mm f/3.5-3.8 (13A)
PS in the list above, I am also trying to keep the weight relatively low, say under 500 gm or so, and the quality relatively high, say a reviewer score of 8 or better. EDIT: list edited to remove duplication!
So, can anyone tell me if any of the lenses in the second list have non-rotating front elements, please? Alternatively, can anyone suggest alternative choices for the envisaged task? Thanks...

I have the M35/2 and it is my favourite lens. Works fine on a MX so I think it would be OK on any film camera. I suppose if you're going digital then a KA version would be better (which might explain the slightly higher scores in the review database, 9.0 vs 8.7). Look like pretty much the same lens.

I have a M 35 f/2 that I really love, I think it is my favourite lens. I was gutted when I dropped the camera with it on and dented the filter ring, but I managed to get one of those lens tools and now I can get filters etc on again. Phew.

Bingo! Turned it all the way to +1, then back in increments. At something like -1.5 I'm getting what looks like a nicely sharp image. We'll see in normal use (and I'm not putting another film in it until I get the 3 test films back from Filmdev today), but I'm very hopeful we've cracked it. Thanks everyone!
I do love forums like this.

I've had a look inside both the LX and MX; I can see the tab in the former, but can't see anything on it, and I can't see the tab in the MX. I'm not very confident about changing them over yet. I found UK fleabay suppliers for flat square tweezers, ranging from £1 to £80. The cheaper ones are described in broken English and mention drugs, which is a bit odd. We do of course have normal family tweezers available in the house, though the first one I found has a slanted end.
I've also just made a more careful side by side comparison of the finders, both with 35mm f/2.8 lenses on and no filters. Yes, the LX is marginally brighter than the MX! Not much in it. I think I had a CPL on earlier, d'oh!
The matte circle in the MX is more clearly visible than that in the LX. The image in the MX is definitely more clearly focused at infinity. I'm beginning to wonder if there's something else going on. I did wonder about dioptre settings, but I can't see any adjustment; I think the supplier said it was a FA-1W finder...
I've just checked the manual, slid the finder out a bit and confirmed it is a FA1-W finder. The manual says the dioptre is adjustable with a small screwdriver that comes with the finder, and of course I don't have one. It looks like a flat cross-head screwdriver is needed. Hmmm.
