The DealExtreme item is a knock-off of the Gary Fong Puffer. Not a good idea to give profit to copyright rip-offs. Think what you'd feel like if you saw one of your photos used for profit and had nothing for it?
I have the Gary Fong puffer and it allows me to use my Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm and still get light from the pop-up throughout the frame, instead of cut off by the lens. Nice piece of kit to have.

For the size, features including RAW, as well as IQ, yes it's the best at this moment.
I'm needing a P&S for my bride of 30 years, which I will use as a backup when needing the pocket ability. I have not pulled the trigger yet, but our October Hawaii anniversary trip will cause me to make a choice at that time.

I used to carry everything but lightstands/umbrellas/reflector in a Lowepro Slingbag AW200, but that got to heavy when on assignment.
I now carry a Westiebag, with a lens on my K20D, and two others - the three lenses are usually the Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 17-70mm and a Tamron 70-300. In the zipper pocket, I keep extra batteries, rocket blower, Gary Fong Puffer for quick pop up fill flash, mem cards, lens cloth, biz cards. When I take my 540FGZ, it goes currently on the camera in my hand or in my pants pocket with a Gary Fong Lightsphere Universal attached. I need to come up with a better storage spot for that - probably a holster (home made) on the Westiebag strap.
Everything else - noted above, goes in a soft duffle bag for now. I'm investigating hard sided/wheeled alternatives, but so far it works for me. =)

It really helps in manual focus. You can zoom in during live view to tweak the focus.

I love my copy. Two issues: No zoom lock, and it does slip more with age, and I wish it had a quick mf switch.
Those are not show stoppers for me. I bought this with my K10D Jan of 2007 as a substitution for the kit lens. It holds up wonderfully with my new K20D. I just used it extensively on a wedding this weekend. A real workhorse with the range it has.

I've had it working well, until it locked up yesterday doing an auto wb. Completely locked and I had to kill the process - Windows XP. I've not reported it yet but will do so. Otherwise, I'm loving the new beta features - esp. localized enhancements.
I have noticed the wb is better.

I put in my request for a price difference rebate the first day I saw the price drop, and got the refund notice one day later. Sweet!

Congratulations on the new K20D from a fellow Central Illinoisan.
Love these bee shots. I grew up with bees that my dad had in our fruit orchard. All hobby not full-time.
Perhaps we'll put together a Pentaxian gathering of Central Illinois folks someday! Penning Photography Daily for my daily shots
Now I have to go google acbees! =)

I have the GF Puffer, and while it's in my bag, I seldom use it. It is the only way I use my pop up flash, with the exception of another pop-up gadget - the Professor Kobre's LightScoop, which uses an angled mirror to use a ceiling or side-wall as a diffused light source.
I like the Puffer for the occasional family event, where I don't want to put on the 540 and the light is low.
Now that I have the K20D, even those occasions are probably going to be seldom cause for the puffer. ISO3200 is just so good. =)

I use Photomatix Pro and have been using direct RAW for a few weeks. There's some shots with extreme darks which don't work well using RAW in Photomatix, in my experience. For these, I go back to creating jpg versions of a single shot with exposure variations using Lightroom sliders. These jpgs I then bring into Photomatix and have better luck.
For some HDR & Photomatix (and one other program I can't recall at the moment) tips see one of the masters (in my opinion) Stuckincustoms.com He freely shares his method.
Also - for some subjects, use the multiple exposure setting in the K10D. I keep forgetting this feature but have used it for static HDR-like photos.

The wax papers in the filters are for shape vingentting in the bokeh. The diamond pattern for example would show as diamond shaped bokeh.

B&H photo (bhphotovideo.com) is one of the best resources - good pricing and quality service
KEH.com is great for used equipment - their grading is the real deal.
The folks here are also a good resource. =)
I don't go for the lowest price when buying online, but the best reputation as experienced by folks whose opinions I believe I can trust.
Welcome aboard from a fellow Land of Lincoln-ite.
BTW - I've bought from Musician's Friend too.

I've traveled with cactus gadget infinity triggers in my bag with no problems. Have the bag hand checked - let them know you have camera equipment and need a hand check - otherwise you might set off the x-ray scanner. =)

My 2gb Sandisk Extreme III is faster than my Transcend 4gb SDHC Class 6 cards. I have one of these: SanDisk 4 GB, Extreme III Secure Digital (SDHC) Memory Card.
Mfr. Part: SDSDRX34096A21 coming on Monday. I hope it's as fast if not faster than the 2gb. The specs state: 20mb/sec sequential read/write times.
I have other brands, but after a couple years with two different cameras and thousands of photos, I'm going to stick with Sandisk Extreme series - III's for sure. Jury out on the III SDHC model. I'll post a reply here after some real world testing next week.
