yeah, since the k-01 is futuristic retro(?), I've noticed it looks quite nice with vintage lenses.

and yes, it's a homemade case!

Yeah, I already had them, so it's quite a nice "side feature."

hehe, I must admit that after I put the nikon lens on, I thought, "Well, that looks nice." ^^;;

Modifying is an option, but I still use a couple film Nikon cameras, so I'm a little reluctant to modifying the Nikon lenses. Unfortunately, it seems like I'll have to acquire Pentax lenses the slow and steady way (saving up for them). Until then, the 50mm will be getting a lot of use. ^^;;

K-01 and Pre-AI Nikon lenses

I heard about Nikon lenses force fitting on the K-mount, and I decided to do some personal testing with some old Nikon lenses on the brick.

MF Nikon lenses in possession:
Nikkor-S 50mm f1.4 (pre-ai)
Zoom-Nikkor-C 43-86mm f3.5 (pre-ai)
Micro-Nikkor-P 55mm f3.5 (pre-ai)
Nikon Nikkor 28mm f3.5 (ai)
Nikon Series E 50mm f1.8

After toying around and freaking out that I was going to ruin the mount, I learned the pre-AI lens fit really snugly with no worry of falling off.

BUT!! The AI lenses (and the series E) don't fit well. The AI aperture ring doesn't surround the outer part of the mount.:fedup: Now, I'm too freaked out for the lens and the mount to try to squash the AI lenses on again.

The K-01 with a pre-ai Nikkor lens (taken with a camera phone :o):

Test shots (50mm f1.4):

The K-01 is my first Pentax camera. I don't have any lenses except for the 40mm XS, so I'm really happy I can use my fast Nikkor f1.4 until I can round out my Pentax lens collection. :D

Yellow Takumar and UV Wavelength?

Sorry if this topic is already dead ^^;;

When I heard about the "cure" for yellowing lenses, I was curious if a UV lamp could be used instead, and thanks to Dean's experimenting, it does seem to be much more efficient than the sun.

Scientific-use UV lamps are usually high intensity and fairly accurate around a certain wavelength. I wonder if anyone has tried this with an everyday long wave UV lamp or flashlight (much cheaper).

Hello Pentax people!

I recently saw the price drop on the Pentax K-01 and I'm really dying to get my hands on one :D

Up until now, I've been depending on hand-me-downs from my parents and grandparents which has left me stuck in Canon/Nikon film world. After borrowing DSLRs from friends, I'd love to jump into the digital age (finally), but my budget is still strictly constrained. Still, I generally liked the Pentax K-5 menu system. My mother has a Pentax film SLR (not much brand loyalty in my family), which she was overall very pleased with, and she has a few lenses that she's willing to pass on to me.

Anyway, until I can make some purchases, I'll just be browsing~ :)
