Love the insights guys! Haha I guess I am looking for support to go shopping :P
What if you could chose say between KP + new PLM 16-50 vs K-3 III? Thinking it should end up pretty close in price but I wonder what would actually take better pics / result in a higher keep rate. (I have a Tamron 17-50 but it keeps missing AF on what would have been great shots at the end of the zoom range  - it's fine on contrast AF though.)
Good point about the K-3 III weight / size. I'm still amazed I'm able to cram a K-S2 + 18-135 + a small prime in a reaaally small camera bag - not sure that's possible with the K3

I know it's early days but my K-S2 has succumbed to aperture block failure and while I'm REALLY upset at Pentax, I can't help but drool over the K-3 III.
Is the K-3 III worth the extra beans and at the expense of the flip screen? I've found the flip screen occasionally useful on the K-S2 when framing family portraits in tight quarters or when trying take a pic above a crowd (I'm not that tall unfortunately LOL)
I'm a casual user mostly for kid chasing / shooting casual occasions etc. I mainly care about high ISO performance & Auto-Focus.
Any early indications how many extra stops K-3 III might have over the K-P at similar image quality? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!
Thanks!!

I don't understand all the hate about the lack of a flippy screen.
Why not just buy a K-1 instead of asking for an APSC to be like the K1 if folks don't mind the difference in size?
Pentax hasn't put out a camera for the "I like it smaller w/ pro features" crowd for a loooong time so I'm really glad they are keeping size / weight in mind when making the tradeoffs. (Lets be honest, I'd love a flipscreen too if they could keep the other tradeoffs in check)
APSC needs to be materially smaller to differentiate it from FF.

This is a repost of a thread a few posts below.
I mentioned it in the other thread but I'll say it again here: be cautious with this one...they're clearing out lenses made almost a decade ago (i.e. potentially before tweaks / fixes to SDM).

FWIW - if a movable screen means larger size I'm glad its fixed.
Looking to upgrade from a KS-2 which is ridiculoulsy compact :)
I just wish they'd make white cameras again...

In one acronym? LBA - looking to pick up a Pentax 50-135 to be my main WR lens and the 55-300 for a longer telephoto.
It probably all depends on where you're coming from and what you're looking to do. I've never really used these since I have the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 which (along with the Pentax 16-50 and Sigma 17-50) is about as good as it gets in that focal length for a zoom. (PDAF frustrations aside with the Tamron...it's now working well enough with a -10 AF adjustment). I didn't get a chance to really shoot anything in the 50-200mm range yet (winter sucks :()
I'd say based on my limited testing, both of these are great lenses but like any have their own set of trade-offs. What are your goals? I would not like to be stuck in a low light environment with either but the 18-50 allows me to pack a 50 F1.8, a K-S2 and the 18-50 in a Manfrotto Bella II which was meant for mirrorless cameras :D:p - I'm going to miss this.
If sharpness is your primary concern, I'd say stick to a prime (the 35MM F2.4 is IMO my favourite lens thus far all things considered - sharp wide-open, small, light, fast & accurate AF and inexpensive so you're not worried about bumping it - just wish it was a tad faster.) Having said that, both the 18-50 and 50-200 are great stopped down and usable wide open (I would definitely rather use my 50 F1.8 for low-light / shooting wide open though)
