It's a composite because the cats wouldn't wear the hats or look at the camera at the same time. It was fun to do though. :p I'm Kristin btw.

So after doing a lot of sniffing around i still couldn't get a straight answer anywhere.
Then i decided, "what the hell, why not just give it a shot".
I mean... what's the worst that could go wrong. :o
So if you would like to know... the answer is yes. The Pentax K-5 can handle 24v at the on camera PCsync with a cord.
So... now that we got that cleared up.

My question is... What is the max voltage the Pentax K-5 can handle safely?
I have a sync cable, not a remote triggering system. If the answer is to throw more money at it... I may be in the wrong place.

My question is a simple one but i couldn't find the answer anywhere online.
The white lightning 10000 bcps light from Paul Buff was made in the 80's. I just recently got my hands on one but was a little worried about connecting it to my camera with the sync cord.
I have found that the sync voltage for the light is 24 volts.
Is it safe to hook this thing up to my camera with the cord?
What is the max voltage that the Pentax K-5 can handle without hurting it?

This was done with the Pentax K-5.
This shoot was for an assignment for my digital photography class.
The assignment was that I had to have one person as my model and do at least 200 photos of them.
This one in particular was the first time I had ever used studio lighting. I used 2 Alien Bees B-800 flash units provided by my school to take this shot.
Post processing I used the Nik Software plugin Color Effects Pro, Detail Extractor. This brought out a lot of the detail, making the shot surreal.
I just noticed that the lens was the Smc PENTAX-DA 40mm F2.8 XS.
I don't know how to change that input above.

After trying to repeat the problem i didn't get anything that was like the first photo until i really ramped up the iso to 51200. This photo is the result of 51200. Lines are starting to show up. I know that nobody in their right mind would ever force an iso this high but this is purely for troubleshooting.

The forum won't let me post the PEF file. What it sounds like to me is that it's user error. That's fine by me because i am still new to the digital realm. I also have a KX that i have had for 2yrs but it still only has 10k shots after all that time. I will just be more aware of my settings in the future and watch for any odd artifacts like these lines.
As i am new to this forum i would like to thank all of you for your quick replies.

The photo was taken in RAW. Other photos that night came out with the same lines.

I dig bring up the exposure in post a little just to make the lines that i was talking about more noticeable.
I did buy the extended warranty just in case anything went wrong. I have heard of things like this happening to sensors and basically was just wondering if this was a sign of worse things to come.

So, my Pentax K-5 shows what looks like scanner lines in low light shots. I just bought this a few weeks ago and was wondering if this is normal. I took the photo in color but changed it to black and white. I didn't have anything like this happen with my K-X and was wondering if i have a bad sensor. Any help would be nice.
View attached photos.

I'm from Portland Oregon. I have 2 Pentax cameras, the K-x and the K-5. I have had the K-x for 2yrs now and the K-5 for about 12hrs :p
Before i went digital i had the Pentax k1000 and loved it. I have stuck with Pentax because of the lenses that i have collected over time. It just seems silly to start all over with some other form factor that does the same thing. I couldn't imagine changing to Nikon or Canon at this point.
I do photography casually for the most part. I plan on stepping up my game with the K-5. It's such a nice piece of machinery. :D I got the K-5 and the 18-55 wr kit lens new for $830 by the way. By the looks of it that's quite the bargain.
