I have the 645 A* 300mm f4 coming via FedEx today. I plan on using that lens for most of the month that I can. I will be going on a trip in Europe and will very unlikely be bringing it. I should be able to use it for most of the month, though.

After a few months of a break I'm in with one of my 50mm this month, too. And the themes look good to me. Although I still can't believe you guys actually are still doing belfies.
Should be fun to see a whole bunch of 50mm lenses being used. I have my classic M50mm 1.7 and an A50mm 2, and perhaps another 50mm hiding away somewhere.
Looking forward to being a part of the group again.

Ok, everyone. For those of you like me who hide behind the lens, it was pretty fun to see you for the first time on the other side. Most of you look much different than what I imagined in my own head. Some were even different genders than I expected! HA! Sometimes usernames are quite ambiguous, I guess. Anyway, selfie day was fun. Let's do again...next year.

Luke and Stevi, glad to hear things are looking up!
As far as how many pics I take for a day. I also sometimes only take one shot and know it's the one, but other times it takes a few shots to get what I want. I probably average around 3 shots, though. Sometimes if I have taken many pictures throughout the day, though, it can be hard to choose just one. Then I just ask my wife which picture she likes best and that's the one I choose. Generally speaking the pictures I like the most are not the ones that the general public seems to like.

Sorry to hear about the implosion! Sounds like a mess! Hoping things start to get put back together without any more implosions. ---------- Post added 08-21-14 at 08:14 AM ---------- I know some people are protective of their photography. Where do you all fall in how you license or copyright your stuff? I find it interesting to see where my photos are used - the random blogs and websites.
Such as a couple shots from this month's single in: How to Take the Stress Out of Image Editing When You’ve Got Tons of Photos to Edit Grace Dean, Psy.D. - Licensed Psychologist ("recent articles")
Of course - I only know about these because someone correctly cited them. But I find it interesting how my photos end up being used around the internet.

I always forget to check in on the conversation throughout the month. A few things...
1 - So sorry Stevi to hear about the mass in Winnie's mouth. I hope that turns out not to be serious.
2 - Thanks for the shoutout about my random explore a few days back - I still have no idea how or why certain photos get chosen. Whatever, I'll take it.
3 - Lightroom is where its at. If you don't have it, it's worth the investment in my opinion. I used Photoshop RAW forever - one picture at a time - on my old MacBook. It was ok, but it took forever to edit everything. But I recently upgraded to a Mac Mini and loaded up Lightroom 5 and it's been a life changer. The various photo shoots I do for couples or families can be edited incredibly quickly. It's great for organizing your own pictures or projects. It's great for saving space by creating various versions of shots without having to export them all and save them as individual files.
4 - Seeing as I don't have much cash (photography is a dangerous hobby to have when I don't have much money to spend), I don't have many lenses. So I find manual myself using manual lenses frequently. Most often with the K-01 with focus peaking on, but it doesn't take long to get used to. It can be hard with fast moving subjects (such as kids or pets), but you get the hang of it pretty quickly. My 50mm 1.7 is my standard lens on my K-01.
Sorry I missed a few days back over the weekend - my mother is cleaning out her house and moving in a couple weeks. Let's just say she is quite the pack rat. Lived there for 23 years and has never thrown away a thing... I'm going back this next week from Thursday - Monday. So I'll try to post pictures and comment, but I'll be quite busy. Three floors of things to go through, organize, donate, and throw away. Wish me luck...

Ok. I think I'm in this month. It's been forever. My life has been super hectic, with project deadlines, babies and, well, life.
BUT...I'm in. It's been sad to see how FEW pictures I've taken over the last few months. Except for a couple photo walks in Chicago, all I really have to show comes from my iPhone 5S, which really doesn't cut it for me. And their mostly of my kids.
Unfortunately I have a few lenses on loan to a friend and I busted my 18-135mm on the pavement (still angry). So I'm probably going to either use my 40mm pancake or my 50mm 1.7 - which was the first lens I used for my first single in challenge last September. I've missed looking at everyone's pictures and hope to be able to commit to a full month. Wish me luck!

Even today as I noticed all the spring flowers popping up where I live I thought about Bruce's many wonderful pictures of flowers he posted here on the forums. He will be sorely missed. I know this has been a hard few months for the family. I want to say that I am very fortunate to have met him here on PF. Condolences to his family.
Peace to all,
Andrew

Oh wow. Mine has done it since day one. I just assumed it was typical! Man, the lens creep for me is horrible. If I walk around with it for a few minutes it's hanging out at 135mm every time. Not cool.

Alright, that settles it then. I'll use my Marexar-CX 28mm F2.8 this month. Hard to believe nothing on Pentax Forums has really been written about it. I guess I'll be the first...

I'm trying to decide what to do about April. I have a number of old manual lenses that I've been given or that I've acquired that I rarely use. And I have a 28mm lens that I have never used, mostly because I know nothing about the company or lens. -- Marexar-CX 28mm F2.8 <- anyone know anything about Marexar? I also have a Marexar 80-200mm F4.5 - any thoughts?

It was good to hang around with my 18-135mm this month. Number one thing that bothers me about it is the lens creep that happens with it. Not sure if this is a common experience with everyone, but I find it very annoying.
Thank goodness for LR5. Fixes the distortion and the vignetting that can be quite problematic for some shots. I love how quiet the lens is, and I find its auto-zoom to be very quick for the most part. I was able to take quite a number of my shots this month hanging around in the higher ISO range, and with quite decent results (on my K-5). It worked well for what my main purpose was for it - the birth of my son. I needed quick focus ability and a variety of focal distances. This lens fit the bill for me (I also used my Sigma 17-70).
I can tell it doesn't typically yield the sharpest photos of my lenses, but I also had a number of comments this month about the sharpness of some of my shots. So it does seem to do well in that area from time to time. Mostly, I'm guessing, in the mid F-stop range.
So I actually had a fairly good run this month, I missed just a few days towards the beginning of the month. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's pictures this month. I liked some of the themes people ran with - and with great results.

From how I understand it, that's legit. And I'd like to see what you could do with the MX-1 and b&w jpgs.

I just mentioned this in the Feb thread, but my wife and I will be welcoming our second son into the world this month. I want to use an automatic lens this month because of the birth of the little guy, but because I have a very limited number of automatic lenses, I will go with the safe choice of my DA 18-135. It did the trick for the birth of my first son, and so I expect it to be able to be reliable for the birth of my second son.
So be ready for some newborn pics, everyone. Hope you're all ok with that!

Well despite my best efforts the mid-month slump hit hard again, with only a few here toward the end of the month. And the pictures I took today accidentally got deleted. I still have time to take more for sure, so we'll see how it goes.
I enjoyed seeing everyone's fisheye pics even though I do not have a fisheye of my own. I used the Pentax-A 50mm F/2.0 that a friend gave me a few months back that I hadn't used. I realized embarrassingly only recently that the A-ring didn't change from 2.0 unless I had it on the A position, and even then it seemed to only choose from about 4 different stops. Is this a common issue or am I just stupid and not using my K-01 settings correctly?
There seems to be quite a bit of chromatic aberration with this lens. Lots of blue and purple fringing. It's not the sharpest lens, especially at 2.0 (which explains why a lot of my shots were so soft, even though I thought I was changing the aperture.) It yields decent results, but I much rather use my M 1.7 over this lens. Better colors, and much sharper - and I can change the aperture ring!
I didn't do that well with the comments this month either, but I hope next month to be a bit better.
Because I am not wealthy by any means, my lens collection is limited -- especially in the automatic category, which is sad. But this month my wife and I will be welcoming our second son into the world so I want to use a lens that I know will be able to be quick to focus and yield decent results a majority of the time with ease. So I'm going to go with my DA 18-135 WR lens for March. Depending on when my son enters into the world (due date is March 27th) you may see a number of newborn pics, so I hope you're all ok with that. :)
I look forward to next month.

So I guess my B&W theater picture that I included at the bottom yesterday hit explore somehow. Maybe that should have been my pic of the day... oh well.

I kind of feel like a party pooper not using the widest lens I have (which is my Sigma 17-70mm...) I used it for my October Challenge. My goal is to just get through this month without stopping. The last few times I have fallen short about midway through the month. At least this month is the shortest one to work with.
But February is off to a good start for me. My Feb 1st picture hit Explore somehow. So thanks everyone! You just never know what's going to get Explored.

Thanks for the help. By the way, I meant a UV filter, not a polarizing one. I'll try it without and see how things go.
Thanks.

Hey everyone,
I've been having a lot more flare with this M 28mm than I have with other lenses. I've also noticed some pretty bad reflections, well, I don't really know what to call it. But here is an example by taking a picture of a lamp in my house.
Would someone please explain what is going on here? I do have a typical polarizing filter on the front. I haven't tried a shot without it (maybe I should have before asking...) Help please? issues by amseaman, on Flickr
Also congrats on those two explored photos on the 13th. Well deserved!

I don't have a fisheye either, so I wouldn't be able to properly participate. Although, I'd be glad to use a fisheye from anyone who'd like to donate. :) Bank account took a hit during the holidays for me. The wifey wouldn't appreciate it if I started looking for another lens... And we have another little guy coming in March, so I'll have to be saving some money for diapers.
Hope the interview went well Wolfiegirl, and I did like the version in B&W of your little one. :)

After an abrupt stop in the middle of November, I'm back for this month.
And I'm using my SMC Pentax-M 28mm F3.5 this month.
Looking forward to being a part of the group this month again. Can't wait to see all of your pictures!
