DFA*50 1.4 is finally coming

It is clear now that we've been waiting for original lens manufacturer to release their own copy of this lens.
Tokina 50mm 1.4 alias "Opera" is just around the corner, so probably there is no reason for additional delay of DFA*50 1.4.

DFA*50 1.4 price

Without the desire to talk about size and weight, my humble opinion that fifteen hundred bucks is ridiculous for 50mm f/1.4 prime but I would like to hear other reasonable opinions.

Btw DFA*50 is probably waiting for K-1 II announcement because price will look more reasonable in compare to body price.

In that case they will wait to collect my money at least 10 years.

I must admit that I have very exotic lens requirements like ultra wide primes, fast 85, consumer/prosumer long telephoto lenses and all those irrelevant lens types.

I'm probably out of date, because these days typical consumers uses big fat full frame zoom pro lenses on full frame consumer bodies.

I have high expectations that the release of K-1 II will return me to the mainstream.

I would like to see that but I think it's too early. Probably next year.

---------- Post added 02-05-18 at 09:57 AM ----------

I'll do the same in a split of a second.

@OoKU it is late 1 year for a couple of reasons.
I talked about that camera 2 years ago.
Find old posts.

18.8.2015.
"For me this is not new, please read my posts from April 29th and June 11th where I mentioned two bodies.
I've got that info from the same guy that told me about Pentax fullframe camera before Kenspo announced FF on pentaxforums.com"

@Adam I would like to see some more type of "trophys" as example for: number on bans, days banned, topics banned etc...
That will remind me how your moderators miserably treated me in previous 2 months.
If you read the history of all my messages for last 5 years you will clearly see that I'm not conflict type of person at all.
One day in december a forum user provoked me to report his messages a few times but moderators didn't do anything about that so I answered to him directly what I think of his opinion.
Since than I am constantly banned, one ban after the other, for every message that I wrote on this forum even for happy new year message.
I will be probably banned for this message also if my "favourite" moderator read this message before you but I don't care.
I'm proud of those bans because I'm sure that I didn't do anything wrong and I would like to see my ban trophys below my name. Thank you if that is possible.

p.s. I asked moderators in a private message what is the way to escalate the situation and report their work but off course I didn't get any answer. Then I replied to him in a topic and get banned because I comment his work in public topic and not in private message.

Speaking about Pentax FF MILC is pointless because that project is abandoned by Ricoh 6 years ago.
They decided that Pentax brand name will be dedicated to DSLRs until it is their ownership.

Happened to me on a crop body.
I just cleaned it even if it wasn't dirty and heated that place with a hair dryer.
After that I removed a battery and it was just "use the force Luke".
I thought I'll break it but it moved somehow halfway and than full way to On position.
After a few switches On and Off with a lot of force it becomes much easier to switch the camera and after a few hunder on/off switches it returned back to normal and never happened again.
It was 3 years ago and I'm still using that camera as a backup body.

Yeah and without obvious reason, except maybe the lens release rates and priorities.

With any other manufacturer this "lens is coming" thread would be closed at least 6 month ago.

They'll need at least 20 years for that and the problem is that they won't be on a market for such a long time.

My advice for you is to switch to Sony E mount, which don't have exact lens but this is very close to your perfect lens:
Zeiss is rumored to announce a new Loxia 25mm f/2.4 full frame mirrorless lens for Sony E-mount

And it is WR.

p.s. If you are not satisfied with 25mm just wait a few months and some 3rd party manufacturer will have 26mm f2.4 E-mount lens.

It's not relevant for sure, but not representative...not sure about that. I would like to see K-1 and D-FA sales figures from some more relevant EU countries like Germany or France. Lack of those figures makes me more suspicious that my country is actually a representative sample of what is going on with K-1 sales in Europe.

p.s. if I remember global figures well, Europe is currently best market for DSLRs it has smallest sales decline of all markets.

I would like to make fun of this lens in K mount. But I can't.

1. Actually Nikon is doing most of the damage, probably because they are in trouble there are excellent Nikon FF deals for some time

2. 645z was Ricoh's cash cow for a few years but they are loosing market rapidly because of the same bad/slow lens release strategy as for K-1. Fuji doesn't share their MF "vision".

3. Only APS-C has a decent modern lenses lineup and if Ricoh survive in camera business it will be because of APS-C cameras and lenses. Last peace of puzzle was DA*11-18 and it will be solved soon.

4. K-1 is much more consumer than a pro camera mostly because of consumer level AF capabilities (in compare to similar Canikon cameras). So their strategy with pro lenses for a consumer camera is a nonsense.

5. I don't think that Ricoh will be in camera business in 3 years because their slow motion business already looks like closing. Based on new lenses, even Sony's DSLR lineup looks much more alive than Ricoh's.

6. My strategy for a long time was Pentax ff. When I bought K-1 I thought that I'll never used APS-C again. But these days I am using my old K-5 10x more that K-1. I've been forced to changed my strategy because of lack of adequate FF lenses.

That lens is just an illustration, but better old than nothing.

---------- Post added 12-22-17 at 07:46 AM ----------

I was also thinking the same thing and it sounds like a good strategy on paper but there is a catch.
Sales were much lower than expected and that slowed down new lens releases to the unacceptable level.

I am from a small EU country but with a few decades of Pentax tradition and a decent number of Pentax users.
We still have a regular shops here selling Pentax equipment with K-1 and all D-FA zooms currently in stock.
I've got some sales figures and in short selling of K-1 is miserable and D-FA zooms sales are total disaster.
Honestly I've expected 10x more sales when K-1 came out.
Pentax equipment is selling at the same shop side by side with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus.
People are watching Pentax but very rarely buying K-1 and never buying those D-FA zooms except 28-105.
After this Christmas, for the first time in decades probably won't be Pentax equipment in stock anymore, just internet orders.
So no more touch&try for me and other Pentax users.

As a conclusion that was a great strategy by Ricoh which failed miserably, at least in my country.

K1+D-FA 28-105 (sold separately) was payed 2698€
KP is currently 1000€ and a new lens will cost probably another 1000€.
That is 25% price difference which is reasonable for K-1 with only 9.000 shots.

Math obviously wasn't your favourite subject?

What is the point of WR camera without WR lenses? On a heavy rain and snow like these days better keep those lenses in your pocket, at least they will be saved for sunny summer days. You want more on unusability?

First of all I have all those prime lenses except FA77 and guess what? None of them except DFA100 is WR which is a must for me.
It is easy to use them at summer but now it is winter and there is a lot of rain, snow and moisture in the air and when you come back home from trekking camera literally looks like it's been tossed into the river.
On the other hand all D-FA zooms are WR but they are too big and heavy for outdoor usage.

Why I think that new 50mm is unusable? Because plenty of old ones are on the market and still in production? No.
Ok here comes the ugly truth.
From a few thousand images shot with K-1 and DFA28-105 and organized in Lightroom I have very interesting statistics: only 3% of those images are shot in focal lengths between 40 and 60mm. 5x less then any of 28,35,70,85 or 105.
I also ask a few friends of mine with a Nikon/Canon full frame cameras about their Lightroom statistics and they got similar results, all of them have between 2% and 5% at the same focal range in samples between 30.000-80.000 photos.
That is the reason why I said that D-FA50mm is unusable lens because it will probably never return its investment. Not even close. For 99% of its future owners.
If you don't believe me you can do the same statistics for yourself.

D-FA 85mm will be completely different story but we probably won't got it before Asahi's 100th year aniversary which is not acceptable for me.
I waited a lot on Pentax full frame digital camera, but I won't be waiting same amount of time for a decent lens lineup.
In next 6 months I will quit Pentax full frame and return back to aps-c and stick with it while Ricoh is in camera business.

My opinion is that Pentax users needs WR primes in 20-35mm range, 85mm prime and compact consumer level WR telephoto zoom (100-300 or 100-400) much more than 50mm prime.

---------- Post added 12-21-17 at 10:23 PM ----------

How about most popular consumer lenses which are selling at least 100x more than than 70-200 pro lens.
Like 70-300 or 28-300?
Will be?
In a few years?
Cmon, those lenses are selling cameras, not huge and heavy pro lenses.

I'm preparing it for a trade: rarely used K-1 in mint condition with D-FA 28-105 vs K-P with DA*11-18.
So beloved bulky, clunky and clumsy K-1 is waiting for you to get that small and beautiful APS-C combo and it's all yours.

Almost 2 years after K-1 announcement we have 0 new full frame prime lenses.
Not only usable or unnecessary prime like D-FA 50, any prime.
If somebody gave me that information 2 years ago I will never buy my K-1.
I'll stick with Pentax crop cameras in the future but it looks like that Ricoh camera business will be dead in a few years.

Pentax 50mm f/2.8 macro lens with 7 elements in 6 groups are sharpest AF lenses produced in K mount. For some reason I prefer FA version over F and D-FA.
Very hard to compare that lens to Sigma 35 f/1.4 and D-FA 70-200 because of different focal lengths and type of lenses but I think that 50mm is the sharpest of those three in most optimal conditions.

When shooting high speeds it is good to turn SR/VR/IS off on any camera system.
My personal preference: when it is 3x focal length or more turn off SR.
