exposure bracketing for hdr in post

Hi guys, the noob is back for yet another settings question.

I downloaded photmatix for hdr processing and I am trying to find out how to get my k-01 to bracket 5 exposures instead of just three as do other pentax models (wouldnt know how to execute on those models either) but I cant seem to find where in the settings to toggle from 3 images to 5 or even 7 if possible. Does any one know how to set this?

From the screen that allows to set +/- exposure value I don't see anywhere to select how many exposures.

I stepped out while the clouds were coming and took this set which i used for my first test of photomatix. Its not the best (water hit the lens filter) but I would love to use more exposures without having to touch (and potentially move) the camera again.

Unfortunately I do not, however from what you are indicating it seems you may need another lens for your video purposes

With manual focus lenses,

set the dial to video mode
Now manually input all the variables

Select a shutter speed for the video double that of the frame rate that you choose in the video section of the menu display. If you chose 30fps then 1/60 for shutter speed.
Set your desired aperture
Set your iso to a fixed iso and do not leave it on auto
Also set the white balance and do not leave it on auto

Once you've input these options the exposure will stay set to what you have chosen

Went to the dog park to make this video, the only setting I did not think about was the white balance! you can tell it really messed with the color tone. I'm having fun learning little by little!

You are right, I was playing with different apertures from 5.6-8 in these clips. I need to get used to the brightness of the live view screen.. Although, I did no edit or color correction in post with this video. Normally if it is underexposed you can fix it easy in post but cannot so much if overexposed. After viewing these clips I think I could have kept the lower aperture setting even though it seems a tad bright on the screen.

I will be heading to the dog park in an hour or 2 so I will have some more clips soon.

Overall I am very happy so far with the performance

It seems as solid or more so than my rokinon 85mm. I really like it, sure it's big and a bit heavy. So much so that my knock off glidecam stabilizer won't work without an additional quick release plate to dial it in. Good thing I got a cheap hand stabilizer, just need to get used to it. I haven't really taken any pictures with is yet but in a week ill be on my trip and this lens will get a lot of use.

So far I love it!

I got the lens last night and while I was running errands today I stopped at a park to test it out for the first time. I had to upload it to youtube from my ipad so the compression even @ 720p is no where near as clear as the original but more 1080p videos uploaded from my macbook pro will be coming soon.

I installed a tiffen circular polarizer right away.

Here is my first video

AE-L locking during filming?

There are different ways to take video on the k-01 one with the dial on movie mode, and the other by choosing the red button to toggle video. I had read in previous video threads here to select my iso, aperture, and shutter speed in M and record from that which is what I have been doing since by simply hitting the red button. The problem with filming in manual is that it continues to adjust the exposure.

All that you need to do is set your dial to movie. Once set you can select your 3 peramiters and boom they are set and wont adjust regardless of auto focus or manual focus!
I am so glad that I payed with this today since I bought the samyang 16mm 2.0 for video and now I can use it properly.

Here is a video of the 2 different methods to video with your k-01 first the wrong way as I have been doing for months, and second the correct way.

I figured it out, and now I can use my manual lenses without the worry of the exposure changing during video (Necessary if you want to make good videos which is why I bought the k-01) I am going to make a video of the process and post it here shortly.

It seems that this ONLY works with auto focus lenses and when you have your video settings placed on M. I cannot duplicate with my rokinon manual focus lens or dont know how.

I am about to buy this lens or am vacillating back and forth. I need a lens at this size for video. It needs to be excellent optically. AF doesnt matter to me much. I am moving out of the country in just over a week so if I buy this it must be today in order for it to get to me in time...

aaand while I was writing this I read the review for it and I just bought it!!! Thankfully amazon delivers to me right away

This will be perfect addition to my line up and the lens that will now be used for just about all my video! I cannot wait for it to get here. Pictures and videos will be up soon.

yea I went through your videos and that video really made me think. On the k-01 I found how the feature works but it is a bit odd. I found that you need to first start recording, once it is recording then you must hold the af/ae-l button for aprox 3 seconds. You will notice the camera refocuses (if you have an AF lens at least) and then a star will appear at the bottom left hand side of the screen. Once that star appears the camera will save that setting and no longer adjust for exposure or iso and you will maintain the setting from that point on or until you hold the button down again.

Only downside is that you cannot set it before you record, you must start recording and then set it but hey it works and although it may take a few seconds it really helps for making great videos.

I was playing around with the camera and found that all I needed to do was hold down the AF/AE-L button for a few seconds for it to set itself. Then a star appears on the screen in the bottom left and it seems to lock it into place. I am so happy that I learned how to do this!!! now my videos will get substantially better.

Here is a link to the fist video i've ever made. First time using final cut pro as well. In some parts you can see the video adjusts the iso in parts. Some of the video was taken by my gf as well.
