Why anyone would overpay for Pentax products in Canada is just crazy talk. in the USA K20D half the price of Canuck retailers. DA* 60-250 almost half price and K7D 33% less. And to resort back to the FleaBay fiaso of looking for old lenses(New in this case) is not an option for those that have no trust in ebay.
So Pentax Canada thows a bone that is not even good enough to make me even think about it. Funny how some lenses and one body are on the verge of being priced right. Go figure.. Pass...

I shoot mostly Canon. Why? Because I like it. I am objective on my camera purchases Olympus/Canon, (Pentax in the past) as I buy what fits my style.
I believe you are a personal friend of that idiot that reviewed the camera. He is in no way is professional, capable or even knowledgeable of reviewing process and his website is such a childlike build that it is just a joke.
His response of 4 to 1 in favour of his IDIOT rantings shows how many egghead Nikon/Canon fanboys that never picked up a Pentax actually read his dribble. Also, he has provided no evidence to back up his 4 to 1 claim anyway, so once again I think he is an idiot and a liar!
And from now on I am just going to ignore your posts too as you are defending someone too much to not have a personal vendetta to defending the fraud that he is. PERIOD!

Please only send cameras to people that have a clue how to review. LL is a popular site, (MAYBE) however I do not see what is there to make people go back. The reviewer is just a twit and ogl defending him is not justified.
He has an opinion yes, however he is very unprofessional, the review was stupid, and his website layout looks like something I would have done in webpage design back 10 years ago. Not someone I would ever associate with for business.
The guy should stick to photography as a reviewer he is a complete failure!

I dont mind this guys site, but that review looked to be written by a 12 year old child. What the heck was Pentax thinking sending a camera to a nobody like this to make a one page ramble post like that.
I am sorry but that reviewer has no clue about which he is talking about. Having no time to compare cameras is one of the biggest copouts there is. Thats fine if you guys like him, however I won't be wasting my time on such useless ramblings.
No I don't own a K-7 and have no intention on buying one either.

Sure everybody carry Pentax cameras so cheap@ss Pentaxcustomers can handle them before they buy online.
That is such pathetic reasoning I cannot believe you actually put that in print here. I have put my foot in my mouth on a few occasions so I am not perfect; I just wonder about some peoples attitude toward retail when they don't carry Pentax products. You are the perfect excuse for Pentax retreat whereas I buy from brick and mortar stores and pay more on most purchases. (New Kx shortly local store)

And you are 100% correct. Unfortunately for Pentax they have primed us to be cheap!:D
The bad part of Pentax is most people have never heard of them, so to charge as much or really close to C and N lens pricing is suicide. Also, Pentax Canada for example charges between $600-800 more for the DA*60-250 in Canada vs. the USA. This is down right greed! So I say UP YOURS Pentax Canada with your lens pricing. (And I am not alone)
The new Kx is relatively close in price to USA pricing so I will buy one here.

Really, Prime II is old and old AF system. At first I thought this was going to be a joke as most here like to have fun and kid around. However, after re-reading, I think this individual requires some help understanding technology.
It does not matter if it is hoya or pentax, same company. I suggest the bunny take up planting carrots and leave picture taking for photographers.

Looks like in Canada we have a choice of Black. Well that is the colour I like, however a red two lens unit would look interesting.

Ya the 4.7FPS will definitely shut up those j@ckAsses (Me) now!
Everytime I look over the specs I am trying to figure out what changed at the Pentax HQ. If this is the future of Pentax creating pull into the line from point-n-shooters then they are finally thinking big.

Ha I never thought of the Da 50-200mm.
Pentax C has embraced Capitalism except they crippled anyr sales outlets that may want to carry the product. I suspect the Kx will catch on at a big superchain though due to HD video.

Compared to the two kit lens Canon XS (18-55mm + 55-200mm@$899) it is close. I expected Pentax C to charge $1399 for the kit which would never sell.

nosnoop thanks for checking this. I lost my marbles last time with the Pentax Canada Sales department over the 60-250mm pricing as they could not give me 1 good reason not to buy in the USA.
I am going to pick this camera up as it will be a great small carry along camera while biking. I like Henrys, just not their Oakville location as the manager there does not like to help customers.

The red one with my Bigma attached would confuse Canikon people very much : -)
Seriously though, the ISO 200 shots looked good from the link in another thread.

I sure as hell hope Pentax Canada does not add $200 to each kit compared to USA pricing. I am so sick of this when Pentax brings out a winner like the K7 and Kx. There is no Value Add charging so much more here except to keep an inept Canada sales office open.
If they are going to survive they have to stop p*&^%$ing off old Pentax customers with their pricing. Entry level Canon,Nikon and Olymus cameras are all $100 plus cheaper here compared to the crippled Km. Only Blacks photography blew them out at Nikon D40 prices.
Great move Pentax on the new cameras now please just get your marketing act together as it is just pathetic!

Not surprising. With the economy in the tank many dealers in Ontario have Special Order or Limited Quantities on most Pentax products. Henrys does stock some items, but not anything like the overpriced DA 60-250, limited lenses or the Da200/300.
I have also found some of my Canon lenses Special Order now too.
Pentax Canada is clueless on how to deal with retail. They were in FutureShop at one time but have disappeared there. This chain could really help Pentax exposure in Canadian retail. I hope Pentax gets their act together as that K-7 is going to kick @SS, and when lenses are hard to get, many people may retreat to an inferior model from another brand.

Good thing you acted so fast. Now Pentax raised the price and Henrys sells it for $1599.99
Wondered how long it would take for Pentax Canada to look like total @ssholes with body pricing. Our $dollar is much higher in the last 3 weeks, so Pentax Canada raise the price on those pay anything cannucks........

I exported computer monitors to one of my largest customers in the UK back when CRT screens were king. When I filled out the export documents for them I had to make sure to stipulate these units coulod not recieve PAL transmissions and had no built in tuner. Otherwise a massive VAT had to be applied and made the product ~50% more than can be purchased here.
I believe since the K-7 can do video, our friends across the pond have to pay a higher VAT than if it just shot still photography. Not sure if this is correct as I remember reading something about this in a trade magazine. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Henrys has it listed for $1,499.99CDN Cannuck Bucks. Looks like Pentax Canada decided not going down the highway robbery path this time. Kudos to Pentax Canada for at least partially paying attention to the market here. PENTAX K-7 DSLR BODY |

Funny how a few here defend the prices yet never pay list themselves. I laughed at the being fair comment. Wow what a wonderful life must be in that persons perfect world.
Pentax Canada pricing is out of touch with reality.
Example: expensive retail shop in USA Da*50-135 is $749 USD where in Canada retails for $1199CDN
Or Da* 300 is $1079USD expensive retail shop or $1549CDN at Henrys. (Try to buy Pentax anywhere else and it is special order, Doh! so is Henrys on this one)
How about a Da*200 for 899USD expensive retail or $1249CDN. Nah no ripoffs here according to our Pentax friend in Ireland!
And last but certainly not least, one of Pentax gems according to many users of this fine grade of glass. DA 12-24 $699USD at another expensive retailer while at Canadian Retail $1299CDN. Hmmm no ripoff uplift here....
Moral of the story, complain to Pentax Canada like crazy to get their pricing in line. Since my current Pentax is old, old, old I looked at the glass/body I wanted and what the costs were. Taking in mind the costs compared to brand X, there really is no huge cost advantage to stay. (There is still a minor price advantage for Pentax though)
Parting shot: Unlike the 2 or 3 fanboys here that will overpay, overpraise and just believe everything Pentax Canada says; I will not overpay. Sometimes truth hurts and telling the truth makes you unpopular. Our Pentax friend in Ireland being the biggest know-it-all that really has no clue in regards to how channel marketing functions in Canada.
I have moved on to another brand and do hope the new K7 is as good as many here hope it to be. I have no grudge against Pentax, just their fat lazy undermarketing Canadian outlet.

They were greedy, Period. Sales sucked and now they are being partially greedy.
Maybe your pricing should be reduced to the USA pricing instead of accepting being taken advantage of? I don't buy your arguement. However if you want to overpay than so be it.
I can take a quick hop across the border and buy in Buffalo, bring back what I want, pay the duty and still save big $$$. Visit friends there at the same time as my American friends are some of the best people on the planet.

panoguy you have summed up my feelings exactly. I confronted them on the major price increase lenses, not the flashguns or bodies. They sent me a canned email from CSR3( Have to like it, Cannuckleheads are now numbered  ) that they had held prices down and now we must pay true cost. What a load of Shutter Failures!
How can we decide to buy in Canada (which I prefer to support locals) if the price bounces like crazy. Or is this the new normal for Pentax Great White North? ;)
Looking forward to the K-7, however if it is $1600 US dollars, this means $2400 CDN dollars with Pentax Canada math. And that would stop me from buying that rumour filled do everything Pentax flagship. :(

Nubi, you made some good points and would be a good example of marketing101 that Pentax does not understand. Maybe they should implement some of your ideas to increase sales to new users of the brand.
Adding a $100 rebate on a lens in Canada they just uplifted by $600 would be so insulting. That is for me, as I can buy same lenses in the USA for much less. (USA RULES :D )
I will be interested in the new camera and I have glass that have served me well. Not going to reward Pentax for price gouging on lenses though.

However, have to thank Pentax for allowing me to explore other products from other brands. I would like a wide angle lens, and I have researched the Panasonic LX3 which is very appealing. Thanks Pentax!!! And much cheaper than the 12-24mm Pentax lens.

With the new price increases, what is the chance you will buy a new Pentax lense that has increased in price?
I am not buying anything Pentax outside of maybe a body. Then again since I am not brand loyal, I may continue with Canon as I have access to Canon lenses and can afford ones like the 200 f/2.8 they sell for 3/4 of the price of Pentax equivalent.
Not interested in bashing Pentax, just want to see if anyone here would pay the higher prices. Hopefully Pentax Canada visits this site and actually cares about their jobs.
