Packing and shipping

Hey Roy,

I use the USPS Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes all the time.
My wife and I, at times, sell stuff through our eBay accounts and use the USPS to ship.
Boxes and tape are free, the rate is pretty fair, never had a problem with things not showing up, and you can even arrange for the mail carrier to pick-up at your house.
Just leave the boxes right side out though...

I think ALL frieght carriers have a problem with thier employees "dipping" into the material.
When I was in college, I had three friends who worked for shippers, two for UPS, the other for Fedex. I myself worked for a time at a company named Smiser Friehgt. The things I seen for myself and the things that were told to me about UPS and Fedex would make you think twice about shipping anything with anybody...

From what I gather, the safeset way to ship is to make your box so that it does not stand out of the crowd, so it just blends in with all the other boxes.

Marking it fragile, will only get it thrown all the harder. Confirmed by my UPS friends who unloaded and loaded trucks at the UPS hub in Cerritos, CA. The orange Fragile Sticker marked the box as a target for special treatment...
Also by my manager whilst I was employed at Smiser, as he was hurling boxes of ceramic plates down the length of a 40 foot trailer, "It's up to the owner of this package to pack it correctly" "Whoosh...Crash"

You have to pack the item so that once the box is sealed, the item is in the center of the space, surrounded by padding, and does not move no matter how hard you shake the box.

There's some tips for ya...

Well, I have a female Red Winged BlackBird.
The males this time of year are very jumpy, and the slightest movement sends them flying.
When I get one, I'll update this one post.

Got one, here's a male but only the orangish part of his wing is visible.

Thanks to all, for both the "Tongue in Cheek" humour, and actual useful information.
The links to the offsite acronym list was quite helpful, and I see now that my original question pegged me as a noob.

Thanks again,
Steve

I just bought one of these from eBay, and have a few hours of playing around with it .
I took a few shots of a Sharp-Shinned Hawk in my backyard this morning, I can definately see the PF, but the subject is sharp, and a macro shot of a Pacific Chorus Frog this afternoon.
I'll try to get the photo's themselves posted in a bit.

300mm, 1/250 @ f/5.6

180mm macro mode, 1/200 @ f/5.6

I've not adjusted anything on these two shots, just wanted to get them posted.

Questions for the Lens Experts...

I was wondering if the lens experts here can offer some suggestions on how to test the performance of a "New" used lens?

The database and the discussion boards are great for searching out which glass is of Awesome, Average, or Mediocre performance, but once we get the new lens into our hands what type of shots can be taken to evaluate the performance of this specific lens.

I can feel LBA starting to kick in,and it would help me to analyze my new aquisitions.

Also, is there a list of terms with their explanations available ? ie. CA, PF, IQ...

I've searched and could not find one.
One problem is that the search engine requires a three letter word minimum to search on, and it seems that most lens terms are two.

Thanks in advance for the help.

What sort of package deal did you get ? Can you post the link to the closed auction?
With regard to the comfort, it's such a personal thing that I would recommend that you try carrying the setup around for an outing and see how it affects you.
I have the K10, and the stock Pentax strap digs into my neck, so I'm now in the market for a more comfortable strap.

Good Luck,
Steve
