Hi I'm looking at changing my laptop for photo editing. Can't justify anything over £700. Any recommendations?

Not sure if its the best place to post this question.
I've just bought a tamron 90mm macro, but the camera doesn't seem to recognise the lens, I can't interact with the lens at all, can't set the f number take a picture, absolutely nothing.
If anyone can help before I take the long walk back to the camera shop.
