Thanks for the info. The new Sony sensor in the Phase One and (according to Karl Taylor) the soon to be released Hasselblad is 53.7 x 40.4mm so based on how it looks on film at 60x60mm the 28-45mm should be future proof. I'm sure Pentax would have been aware that their sensor supplier Sony was developing this sensor when they designed this lens.

Yes, sorry, I worded it badly. I haven't been able to find the answer to this anywhere on the internet.
If anyone is interested, respected Hasselblad user/trainer Karl Taylor said on his Facebook page on 10th January that they'll be releasing a version with this sensor, so I'm sure Pentax will too. "Just seen the specs for the new 100mp Hasselblad, this thing rocks and from what I understand it's going to be less expensive than the Phase. Can't wait till March to get my hands on one!"

More than 6 months later and still no complete answer to the original question or a sample image shot with a 645 film camera.
I'd very much like to know if this lens will cover the image circle with the new larger 100mp sensor (used on the new Phase One) that is likely to appear in a version of this camera in the future.

Is this lens really designed only for a crop sensor as people have been saying? Looking at the size of it on photos and video it does seem huge. Perhaps Pentax know a larger sensor will be available in the future and designed it to be somewhere around 17-28mm on a larger medium format sensor. That's the kind of lens I'd need to make me consider giving up my D800 +14-24mm.

Reading comments on the internet, the main criticisms are
Low res LCD
No fixed or removable EVF
No built-in wifi
No GPS
As much as I enjoy using the Q, one of its biggest weaknesses is battery life compared to my other cameras such as the Coolpix A (which even has to power the lens on and off). It's a really small battery and too small to be able to add any of the above features at it would put too much drain on the battery. They would have to go for a complete internal redesign or make it larger in order to accommodate a bigger battery and offer any of those extra features and they probably decided the ROV wouldn't be worth it.

Tamron has apparently filed a patent for a 15-50mm f/1.4 lens designed for 1/1.7" sensor. The latest patents from Google, Panasonic, Tamron, Canon and Olympus | Photo Rumors
Maybe it's just for a compact camera, but as far as I know, Tamron only produce lenses for interchangeable lens cameras. The only camera with a 1/1.7" sensor is the Q7? I can't imagine Pentax sell enough Q7s worldwide to justify a 3rd party lens manufacturer producing lenses for it, but you never know

For me, the first two things that need to be changed on the next update are a higher resolution LCD and built in wi-fi with camera control via a phone/tablet.
Possibly an optional clip-on EVF, but to keep it small I don't think it should be built in, unless they produce two versions.
Next up would be 5 axis image stabilisation like Olympus and some fast telephotos lenses.
I also think the camera has a great future with video too, as it's so small, if they improve the bit rates.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at your photo of the real cameras (and several others I've seen) and comparing against the colour configurator, I can see several other colour choices on the website don't match the real camera versions either which look better

Hi Folks,
I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to get the Q7 as I have the Q, so may wait until the next update. I'm tempted by the olive green and brown version, but looking at the Colour Configurator on the website, the olive green version looks to have matt finish and almost military green look to it that I don't like. However, when you go to the checkout and select it, the camera has a gloss paint finish and a cross between gun metal grey and green which is really nice and what I want. Anybody know which colour is correct?

Thanks Dave. Yes, shot on a tripod at base ISO. Multiple processing via Lightroom > Photomatix > Photoshop > Back to Lightroom. I probably picked one of the worst rooms as the room is quite dark with sun coming in through the window so your base exposure is pretty dark.

Just for fun. +/- 3EV. 01 Prime Lens. Not many rooms are large enough for the 01 Prime to get much of the room in.

I have the Q and 01 Prime + 03 fisheye lenses. Normally I use full frame Nikon DSLR's for work and have a D5100 for casual use. The thing for me is that if I was going to take anything larger than a Q (X10, G1X etc) then I might as well take my D5100 or D700/D600 and one or two prime lenses and a small shoulder bag.
I use the Q for 3 things:
1: Always with me, so for taking pics most others would take with a phone, but much better quality
2: Just going out and having some fun with taking photos and playing about with the camera. It puts a smile on my face.
3: At a social event or with friends or places where I don't want to stand out with a big camera
It's a small sensor camera and that is what it is and I bought it fully aware of its limitations. If I know I'm going somewhere really nice or know I will want to take some treasured photos then I take my DSLR.

Both shots very nice. The rich quality of the image file on the cycling shot shows what you can get from a small sensor.

Maybe the D-Range setting is also switched on or set to auto. Never used it myself, but there's not much contrast in the pics and very little shadow. Some harsh light you're working with there in some of the photos too.
The lens seems to manage OK with the larger sensor, corner to corner.

Many thanks for taking the time to do this.
If you have one, I'd love to see what the fisheye lens is like on the larger sensor Q7 and whether it's
wider..
cropped, but slightly wider
cropped and no wider at all than the Q.

Not enough for me to upgrade from the Original Q. I'll wait for the next update and hopefully a higher res LCD screen and better video capabilities. Talking of video, I think the Q has a lot of potential as pocket video cam.

I agree with the others that they need to keep the camera small. However, Panasonic have shown that you can fit a small EVF onto a camera with the DMC-LF1, without increasing the size significantly. I only have the prime and fisheye lens, but I can't ever see myself buying or using a telephoto lens like the 06 without the stability of being able to hold the camera to my eye.
