Just remember, fried potatoes (Chips for the non-US) when fried in vegetable oil are considered a vegan meal option.
That's what I tell my wife when she asks what I had to lunch at work.

It's now my dedicated macro body, either on the bellows or the focus rail. Also if I go on my travels and think my K-3 may get scuffed and damaged the K100D gets packed

My only experience with them ordering equipment was when the box arrived (it was a bellows) and the "packing" consisted of a small sheet or bubble wrap that didn't quite cover the base of the box. No damage done luckily, but it could have been a lot worse.

It doesn't mind roads with corners, it makes it's own roads without them!
Driving outback roads has it's own set of "rules", one of which is that if one of these comes behind you, get out of the way! And I don't mean pull over to the side, I mean pull right off the road!
If you see a truck coming towards you you do the same, then wait for it to pass and the dust to settle before setting off again.

Well I did some things and found the source of the error.
And the problem was....... drum roll please....... the Viewfinder / camera interface!
Which is a long winded way of saying I was at fault. Looking at the camera from the rear on the K3 there is a mode lock toggle which either means you can turn the mode button freely or means you need to push down the small button in the middle of the mode button in order to change modes.
The mode lock has a small white line to indicate whether the lock is enabled or not. The small white line is on the back of the camera body. The small white line indicator to show which mode you have selected is on the side of the prism housing, 90 degrees round the mode button from the mode lock white line, or three mode selections if you count them.
So for some reason I went to check the mode, and read the selection closest to the mode lock button rather than the mode selection mark. Hence the fact that the "indicated" mode and the mode shown on the screen were always three points different.
I shall now retire and have a stiff drink and give myself a good talking to.

Yes it does, I tried that before posting. I did find an old thread with a similar description, but in that case it stayed in Manual and would not change out. On my camera I can still change modes, but the indication on the dial and the actual mode are three spots apart. ---------- Post added 09-19-22 at 10:31 PM ----------
Thanks. I would agree with you about dirt on the contacts if the actual mode was not changing, but the indicated mode and the actual mode are constantly three dots apart. It's almost as if the "current" mode when it was turned on was not what was selected, but it still acknowledges each turn of the dial by incrementing the mode ---------- Post added 09-19-22 at 10:32 PM ----------
Sounds like a good plan, cheers

OK strange title but I shall explain.
Sunny day in the garden so I picked up my K3 to see if there was anything interesting around. I had my "macro rig" fitted (manual extension tubes, Sigma 28-90 and a pentax flash), same as have had on for several months.
First image I took the shutter speed was way slow, so I checked the display and sure enough it was se at 1/60. With the flash on I normally set it to 1/180, so I wound the front dial around to raise the shutter speed.
No response, tried the rear dial (I can never remember which one changes things) still no dice. Check the mode dial, still set in Manual, switched everything off and on again, same result.
When I tried changing the mode, I noticed that the rear display was telling me it was in a different mode from the dial selection. A bit of trial and error showed that to get Manual mode I had to select U3 on the dial, so everything is misaligned by three spots.
Any ideas? Anyone seen it before? Before I hit the factory reset selection and then have to work out what I had it all set up to do, I wondered if there was a simple solution.
Cheers

Apparently the English Cricket Board have been in touch with Novak Djokovic to see if he is interested in being a temporary batting coach.
Well it took Australia two weeks to get him out.....

We recently had an issue in Aus where we were purchasing some equipment from a US supplier. The equipment had been designed to operate with the 240 V AC that Australia uses, but in order to do that and compoly with US power distribution system, there were fuses in both the active and the neutral lines. Now the sort of thing that is expected in Australia, and could be a safety issue for maintainers who are not aware.

Every Burns night (25th) we have some friends over for some haggis and conviviality, and before we toast the haggis I always loudly thank the Australian government for having Australia day on the 26th, so I don't need to go to work the next day.....

Went to a formal event last night and there was an offical photographer (very young female). My wife was chatting to her and mentioned that I have an interest in cameras and things, so the photographer turned to me and joking said "so if I need a break I'll get you to take over...?" I asked what her camera was and she replied that it was a Nikon something, so I jokingly sucked air through my teeth and replied "oooh, not with that. It's not my usual brand...". The photographer looked a me with a wry smile and said "Oh a Canon officienado..." to which I responded that I was a devotee of Pentax.
The young lady photographer then responded with "Ah, old school......"

I jusy picked up one of those studio lighting kits, three tripods, a couple of brolleys and three flash heads for $20. Someone who is moving house and used to photo babies apparently was clearing the garage and wanted rid of it, so I was happy to oblige for that price.
The heads flash, there are a couple of extra cables and bits that show it was packed away with other gear and then never taken out again, all I need to do now is work out how to trigger the flashes

I've been toying with getting a bigger lighting set up, and the local website for private sales flagged up a bargain of a studio lit including three Glanz 160 Di heads for $20.
I snapped it up and having checked the heads all work I'm looking at how I can trigger them from the camera. Unfortunately there was no flash trigger in the kit, there are a couple of long sync leads and from what I can gather the flash headas can be triggered if they detect another flash, but apart from that I'm still looking for information.
Does anyone have any experience of these flash heads, and can provide me with any information, feedback or things to watch out for.
Cheers

Top tip, if you add a splash of sesame oil to the brussel sprouts when you fry them, it makes it easier to just slide the whole lot into the kitchen waste

Bloke goers into his doctors and explains that he (the bloke) had been talking to his wife about the pain of childbirth. His wife was convinved that childbirth was the most unbearable pain ever, and the bloke had disagreed with her.
The doctor asks "So what have you come to me for"?
The bloke says "Well, is there any way you can let me experience the pain of childbirth"?
The doctor thinks for a moment ands then replies that he thinks there is a way, but it would require a small operation. The bloke agrees without asking exactly what that may be so they arrange to do it at the local hospital.
As the bloke was coming round after the operation, the doctor appears at his side and hands him a prescription. The bloke read it and finds out the prescription is for a vindaloo curry twice a day for a week. He looks puzzled and asks the doctor how this will let him experience the pain of childbirth?
The doctor smiles and turns away, saying "You've just had your arsehole sewn up...."

Of all of Clancy's books, Red Storm Rising is the one I keep coming back to read over and over. Being in the miitary back in the 80's it all seemed too credible to be dismissed, but saying that "The Hunt for Red October" was being handed around by the sonar guys because it made them sound important for once...
Coming from Edinburgh originally I used to read a lot of the Rebus books, mostly for the car chases. I used to read through and then think "hang on, should he not have turned left there instead of right..."?
Just finished reading the ten books of the "Chronicles of Amber" series by Roger Zelazny, not quite the easiest set of books to follow but a good fantasy story none the less.
