Looking for recommendation: Compact body to shoot video with m42 lenses

Looking to break into shooting some video and I'd love to use my old m42 glass. I don't really want to lug around my K-1, so I am looking for a compact mirrorless body that I can adapt to m42, which also shoots decent video. Also looking to not break the bank (sub-$700 is preferable.)

Looking for recommendations (I've seen the Fujifilm X-E2 being mentioned elsewhere)

Thanks!

New lens - FA 43mm or DA* 55mm

Wow, thanks for all of the incredible help. No matter what I do, I know I'm going to want the other as well, after reading everything.

I know that in the future, I'm going to wind up getting the 43mm, along with the 31mm and the 77mm. I can't see my self continuing down the pentax ownership road without those somewhere along the path. I think that, at least for right now, the 55mm might be the better choice because of the weather resistance. It sounds like they are both great lenses. I've read many comments saying they'd have one over the other. I'll try and focus on that and not worry about getting the wrong lens, and instead, be happy that either choice is a good one.

Alternatively, I had considered trying to find a sigma 150-500mm in pentax mount, but I wouldnt want to have to go through the process of sending the lens in to be fixed for the K-1. I'd love a telephoto, and that seems like an amazing bargain if I can find it for 600ish. I wont stress over it though

New lens - FA 43mm or DA* 55mm

I was given 400 dollars towards a lens as a christmas gift, and I'd like to put it to good use.

Currently I have:
Pentax k-1
pentax 24-70mm
Super Takumar 85mm f 1.9
Super Takumar 50mm f 1.4
DA 35mm macro

Right now, I only have one true k-mount full frame lens. I don't want to go in more than 200 dollars of my own money. I'd really like a fast sharp prime, which is why I was looking at the FA 43mm and the DA* 55mm.

I'd read that the 55mm is FF compatible, and the 43mm definitely is, can anyone comment on that?

The pros and cons I'm weighing now are.

DA* 55 - Pros: weather sealed and faster Cons: larger, heavier, not as wide

FA 43 - Smaller, wider, lighter Cons: not as fast, not weather sealed.

Weight and weather sealing are big factors for me, becuase I travel a bit, and have the added bonus of weather sealing can be extremely helpful in humid and wet areas, obviously.

I'd be open to other recommendations as well!

what do you think!

Thanks for the help!

Barrel wobble in DA 24-70mm

I have had my 24-70mm for about 3 months now.

I've noticed that the barrel wobbles a bit, when I take hold of the end of the lens, I can feel a bit of play in it.

I know this isn't necessarily an issue, but I don't remember feeling this in the beginning. It's one of those things I can't "unfeel" now that I've felt it and am constantly worrying that there is something wrong.

I haven't dropped it or anything, but when its on my k-1, its a bit tight in the bag I have for it, would this be an issue?

Since its still under warranty, should I send it in? or not worry about it? Nothing seems to be affected by the wobble, pictures and focusing seem fine.

I just need someone to either tell me not to worry, or to tell me to send it in.

Thanks for the help!

Did anybody ever find their 'perfect' camerabag?

I know you mentioned wanting a messenger style bag, but I figured I'd mention the lowpro hatchback bag

Photo Hatchback 22L AW Camera bags, backpacks and rolling cases

I just picked one up and it is incredibly and everything I wanted, and it has the added bonus of being able to be used as a normal backpack when its not holding camera equipment. It also doesn't scream camera bag.

My only issue with it, is that the chest straps can slide off their attachments on the shoulder straps quite easily. The bag also fits my k-1 with 24-70mm attached, long ways, and leave room to spare for a few other lenses. There is also a smaller 16l option. I like the newer designed ones better, but the older one can be found cheaper. Quite a bit cheaper if one checks certian Chinese wholesaler websites... I bought mine new for 34 euro.

anyways, I know its not exactly what you wanted, but its worth a look.

I can't speak to the other questions, but I shoot with RAW+ a lot, and use lightroom to import. Importing with lightroom takes the DNG and JPG files and puts them in whatever folder I want, by default, but in the library view in lightroom, it just shows the DNG file. I think it does this becuase otherwise there would be lots of duplicates. Is this what is happening for you? I think lightroom just assumes you'd rather work on the raw file than the jpg, so it shows that one.

Where to buy K1 ?

I'm in Brussels and everywhere I've checked the K-1 has been selling for 2000 Euro. I think there a number of different tariffs at work that are upping the price within the EU. I think there's a difference in the length and coverage of the warranty, depending on where you buy it, but it seems like it is cheaper to buy in the US than in the EU.

but if you take out the locking mechanism, then doesn't the lens shift on the mount when you are focusing? how do you prevent that?

Doesn't this not remove the possibility to focus to infinity becuase the flange puts the lens slightly further away from the censor?

Could you maybe link me to what you recommend? I'd love to be able to do away with using my fingernail or a pen to remove the adapter from the camera.

K-1 lens recommendations

Everyone has been extremely helpful!

I have been finding myself in many more situations recently when I've needed a faster lens, and used the 50mm tak, which words, but dealing with full manual all the time is a bit annoying.

I think the biggest thing I have against the 24-70mm is the weight, as some have mentioned. The K-1 isn't light either, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a store model last week, and together they were pretty hefty. This is a concern of mine, since I do like to do a bit of trekking. However, it would be more versatile than the 31mm and has the WR too.

I had thought about the FA 43, but I think I'd want something a bit wider than that.

---------- Post added 04-29-16 at 02:00 AM ----------

I'm just an amateur at the moment, but I have been shooting events for school and things, so a fast zoom would definitely be useful. The super taks are all m42s, and I have a genuine pentax adapter, which is a pain to take on and off, but it's manageable.

K-1 lens recommendations

Hi everyone!

So, I might be getting the K-1 sometime in the next month or so, and I want to get a lens with it, but I wanted some advice. I currently have a k-5II, 18-135mm, DA 35mm limited macro, DA 15mm limited, 50mm 1.4 super tak, 85mm 1.9 super tak, and a strange 50mm Industar lens. I really enjoy the versatility of the 18-135, but the 35mm, and the super tak's have spoiled me with sharpness, so I wanted to get a comparable lens.

I have around 1000 USD I can spend on a lens, and seeing as how the only FF compatible lenses I have are m42 mount, I'd like to pick up something new. I think I've narrowed it down to either the FA 31mm, or the new pentax 24-70mm.

What do you think? I travel a lot, so the WR is nice, but I've read so much about the 31mm on the forums it seems legendary, and is faster than the zoom. Or, would any of you recommend another lens? (I thought about the 28-105, and I still consider it an option, but I think I'd rather get something a bit higher quality if I can spend the money)

I had a side question, since I'm still trying to figure this out. The FA 31mm, when put on a full frame, would look like putting a 21mm lens on my K-5II?

Thanks!

Setup for Panoramas with K-3?

I've been using Microsoft ICE for a long time. I've only ever shot hand held panoramas, but the program does a very very good job of stitching everything together, and is very easy to use. I've tried numerous other software, and demoed more expensive ones, but in my very amateur opinion, ICE did a better job than all of them. Also its free, which is a plus. The only downside is that it wont work on Mac.

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, I have looked around a bit and haven't been able to find anything.

I'm looking into getting the K-1, I'm in the US, and it seems like there are a number of places to choose from when ordering. I was wondering if it mattered in terms of warranties and or protection plan. I wanted to get some sort of extended plan, and I've never done that before. Amazon sells a 3rd party protection plan, which I'll link below, but I know nothing about it, and would like to hear opinions on it.

Basically my question is, is it worth it to buy additional protection, and if so, where and what should I buy (specifically for the K-1)

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CV9M98Y/ref=psd_bb_lm_B01BL6L3G6_B00CV9M98Y

Also, I wasn't sure the best forum to put this in, so sorry if this isn't the best place :(

Thanks for the help!

I was able to retain infinity focus with that lens. I haven't tried using any other M39 lenses though, so I can't say for anything else unfortunately.

Those images are untouched jpegs, and They were shot from the same angle as far as I can remember, but at different times of the day. Ill do some field research and get back to everyone, to see if I can reproduce any of the effects. I should have checked more of what I was doing at the time instead of looking at my camera, saying "huh, thats cool" and moving on.

There aren't any filters attached, and I don't remember the f-stop sadly. Here is another picture I took, this one I don't remember either, but I'm guessing I shot it at 3.5. Its very odd, because it seems to only apply to some shots, and I haven't seen it show up without the digital filter applied, either.

I actually kind of like how it looks on the pictures it has shown up on though haha.

Hi everyone,
about a year ago, I bought a m39 Industar 50mm f/3.5, which I use with my k-5ii and two adapters. I really enjoy the little lens, and it was my first introduction into full manual lenses. Its been a little tricky for me to figure out, but ive been slowly getting the hang out it. Some of the pictures I took a month or so ago, using the back and white digital filter on my camera, had an interesting circular effect in the background. Its only shown up in a few, and I actually like the strange effect it has. I was curious though, and I figured someone could explain what was causing it. Ill attach the image.

Thanks!

Question about watermarks and other things

Hi everyone. I am new to watermarking and everything else in some way related to any kind of professional photography.

Anyways, heres the situation. I recently started doing volunteer work for a lodge in southern Chile, which I found though an organization called workaway.com. Anyways, i've been doing work for them, in exchange for lodging and food. I was recently asked to take some photos of one of the trips they offered, along with other things around the lodge. After I took the pictures, I edited them, and then watermarked them because I knew they were being uploaded publicly. I haven't ever done that before, but it seemed sensible, and I had also never uploaded a ton of stuff publically as well. When the lodge owner saw, he said it was fine, but then later said that he wanted me to remove them. He said he might want to use them on a flyer or brochure, and said that if the watermark was there, it would look like he took them off a stockphoto site without paying. I understood this to a point, not wanting to have a watermark on something you are using, but I didnt get the rest of it, If it was a stockphoto site, it would most likely have something covering the image. Anyways, I wanted to ask people who knew more than me, before I go and remove all my watermarks, what I should do. He said that we could just enter an agreement where he would acknowledgee me somewhere on the sites and things that are displaying my pictures, and he would also point people in my direction if they asked about the pictures.

Anyways, any advice, comments, or recommendations would be great, Im very new to this side of photography.

thanks!

Gracias,

Minolta X-7 A camera and PENTAX K1000 + 8 Lenses , 1 ext. flash + more

Saw this pop up, I am having trouble identifying the lenses, and waiting on a response from the seller, but I am sure some of you would have no trouble identifying them.

Assuming the lenses aren't broken/dirty/full of fungus/haze/or whatever, is this a good deal for the lenses shown?

Sorry if this isnt the right place for this in the forums.

Thanks for the help.
