Yes I used exactly those dc5521 terminal blocks with heat-shrink tubing as you can see in one of my previous posts in this discussion, but I fiddle with them a lot to put the wiring into my DIY camera trap, and for my peace of mind I decided to solder the wires. One less worry.
As regards the charger, I use for my 18650 batteries XTAR VC2SL and LiitoKala Lii-202, so far so good!

Quick update:
after some thinking, Haenzel is right, I reckon soldering is safer than simply screwing up loose ends to 5521 plugs: it’s enough a stray copper wire touches the other wire and you get a short-circuit burning the K-1 (simply too expensive, I can’t afford that!).
Therefore I bought 5.5mm x 2.1mm Male + Female DC plugs +10cm wires each (see photo above) which I soldered like this:
(soldering-1) female plug 5521 to the K-AC50 Pentax adapter
(soldering-2) male plug 5521 to DC plug MQ 172 (to be plugged into K-1; KP etc..).
Moreover, I can confirm also angerdan is right: I chucked away the Fugazi, and I bought 4 18650 Keeppower (3Ah) powering the Trustfire external 4x 18650 battery pack connected to the K-1 by means of the cable on the left hand side you see in the lower photo (cable Trustfire to K-1): it takes quite a few hours to charge them, but they last 2 days and nights keeping the K-1 not only switched on but ready to shoot.

ok angerdan you convinced me. It seemed too good to me to be true that I had bought so powerful 18650 batteries for so little money, and when this happens it is generally an item of poor quality. Actually I have used them so far only for my LED torch and they don’t last longer than the weaker unbranded ones. Following your advice I have bought 4 x Keeppower 18650 3000mAh that cost me about £38, so more than double than Fugazi, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks angerdan for answering Haenzel’s question so accurately. Actually I’ve got 4 of those 18650 in the photo, so it should be 9900 mAh x 3.7v x 4 = 146 Wh. So theoretically 10 times more than the standard D-Li90 battery, which is good because with camera trapping your camera must be ON all the time. I’ll test the new setup in my DIY camera trap in my backgarden with K-1 inside (I’d rather avoid risking a theft of the K-1 in public areas!) and measure the time the new system keeps it powered up.

K-30 and other cameras using D-Li109 batteries: Sony NP-F external batteries?

Good find! I bet the adapter you bought should transform the 5v input coming from a USB source, like a phone power bank, into a 7.2v going into the dummy to get the camera to work. Let us know if it works mate.

Hello raider, if you’ve got a K-30 or any other camera using D-Li109 batteries, you can certainly connect Neewer NP-550 7.2v batteries to the D-Li109 dummy. I guess it should last you one night because my NP-F750 lasts for 2 days/nights with 5k mAh.
As regards the connection to the dummy, you cannot use the USB charger you have for your Neewer NP-550. That is only to charge the batteries. You need to have a separate NP-F adapter plate. Neewer produces one that would suit you.

Haenzel, thanks for your instructions. I am a keen nature photographer and I use my Pentax K-30 in a DIY camera trap to catch photos of wildlife. K-30 is a stunning camera, I power it with NP-F batteries. But it can only take photos up to 16MP. I also have a K-1 and a KP which both share the MQ172 plug for DC. Making the most of your post, I found on eBay a 2nd hand K-AC50H for £15, I cut the DC plug (MQ172) wire end, I screwed up red wire into + and black wire into - of male 5521 adapter which fits into Trustfire round 8.4v 5521 female adapter, and it works like charm (see “DC-IN” top right corner of
K-1 display). I cut off the unsheathed copper wire (neutral) of the K-AC50H. I bought TrustFire 18650 x 4 because it fits better into the DIY camera trap.
Like you, I connected the other end of the K-AC50H to another female 5521 adapter so I can still use the Pentax power adapter as normal.
What’s the advantage? Well, DC 8.4v external power for K-1 (24MP photos) or KP and no soldering.

Have you ever built a camera trap with Pentax components for photographing wildlife?

Hello, I use either my Pentax K10D or Pentax K-30 in my DIY case trap with plenty of satisfaction. The latter is my favourite lately because I can connect Sony NP-F batteries to the battery dummy, or even Li-Po 7.4V 8kmAh battery . See here my previous post

D-BG2 Battery Grip. Anyone actually use one?

Yep, but that adapter runs on 240V therefore for outdoor use you would need to carry an inverter. I’d rather use 2 batteries, one in the camera body and one in the D-BG2, and let the camera drain one at the time with menu option “automatic”.
The adapter is excellent for studio work with mains socket nearby; in the field outdoors you want to have portable power.

Hi, as for K-P see here
Glorich K-AC128 D-AC128 K-AC109 K-AC168 D-DC128 Replacement AC Power Adapter Kit for Pentax K30 K50 K70 K-r K2 K-S1 and K-S2 Digital SLR Cameras,D-Li109 replacement(but not compatible with Pentax KP): Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
it says although it uses the same d-Li109 batteries as K-30 K-r etc. the K-AC128 power kit will not work with K-P. So the dummy cannot be used. K-P uses K-AC 167 power kit instead, so without a dummy d-Li109 battery. Therefore I do not think the NP-F solution will work for K-P.
Btw, the battery door with K-30 and K-r will close because there is a removable rubber plug to let the cable go through.

D-BG2 Battery Grip. Anyone actually use one?

Hi Guys, I've had the K10D and D-BG2 for years by now. As to the D-BG2 for me the biggest advantage is it doubles the power for shooting: if you choose "automatic" on the options for battery selection the camera will pick one than the other. If you do camera trapping like me it will last throughout the night, otherwise with K10D there is no way...

Picking up on DrawsACircle - see here

Battery/AC adaptor question - PentaxForums.com

for the tip about the 8k mAh external LiPo battery for those of us with Pentax cameras using D-Li109 lithium batteries.
It is essential to extend the charge for some outdoor photography like astrophotography (I bought K-r for this reason) or camera trapping.
For the latter I bought K-30, really great camera for this kind of activity.
However, the original Pentax 7.4V battery will not last throughout the night until the morning because the power has to be on all the time, nor would even 4 AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries, especially if outside it is cold.
There is the need of enough battery power for the motion sensor to trigger the camera, and it’s not good enough the camera is just on.
As there is no official Pentax external battery pack for the K-30, I came up with the following solution:
NP-F battery for Sony (I use DSTE NP-F750 with 5k mAh 7.4V 37Wh) on NP-F adapter plate + 5.5x2.1 female to 4x1.7mm male adapter connector + D-Li109 battery dummy, and it works like charm for days in a row (x5 time of original battery).
This solution could work for astrophotographers too, for those of us owning Pentax K-30, K-50, K-70, K-500, K-r, K-S1, K-S2, K-2, all using D-Li109 batteries.

Pentax TS-110 Release Timer Switch - Conversion

Hello, I was very keen to buy a TS-110 for my Pentax 645 NII but I was shocked to see how expensive are the very few left. Hence I decided to build one myself. I bought JJC TM-C intervalometer for £18 and I sacrificed a CS-105 cable. At the other end of the CS-105 I soldered a 2.5 mm female stereo jack to which I connected the JJC TM-C et voila' all works well, including the autofocus.
I made the most of the "sacrificed" CA-105 remote cable left by soldering to the other end that I had cut (which had the jack for the 645 NII socket) a male 2.5mm stereo jack, so I can use it like before with my Pentax 645 NII (if connected to the DIY cable) or directly to my K-3.
