GR noise?

Hello,

Just got my GR.
I'm not sure what to expect in terms off ISO performance, noise, blur etc.

This RAW file was shot at 800 ISO, f 3,2, 1/500sec

Is it just me or does it seem a bit noisey, even for 800 ISO?

I also noticed that when zooming in on the shot on camera it also shows up a bit blocky at times.

I'm coming from a K5-II (Pentax), but given the sensor I should achieve similar results?

RAW: www.twostroke.be/GR/RG000072.DNG
Jpeg (with NR and sharpening in Lightroom: www.twostroke.be/GR/grtest1.jpg

In short: is there something wrong (maybe just a setting?) with my GR, or am I going pixel peeping mad...

I am by no means an expert but I use B+W filters and am happy with them! They seem to be a good middleground between cheap/crap and expensive/overpriced :)

Hello

Just got me a Blitz mecablitz 52 af-1 and am ready to dive into flash photography with my K5II

Just a quick question though, I know i can trigger using wireless triggers but I read that I can also trigger using infra red (when in clear sight obviously) or with the pop-up flash. Is this true? Won't the pop up flash mess up my lighting then? Or is there a delay?

Any help is much appreciated!

I'm using a tripod.
Just wanted to find out if my lens was faulty or if this was 'sharp enough'.

Thanks guys!

I manually focussed on the heart using live view at 10x, but then again, the misfocus can be a human error (me!)

In other news: I'm planning to do some AF finetuning with a focus chart.

Thanks for the help guys! Gotta love the Pentax family :)

Here's a similar f2.8 shot.A little less sharp then the 5.6 one ?
Same develop settings as the previous shots, focussed on the red heart

I focused in LiveView.
Thanks for the tip about the hexagon! Didn't know that (need to plow through the manual) :D

So it seems that the lens and camera are fine then?
Now I just need to work on technique and finding good lighting :D

Okay, here are some (indoor, sorry) shots of the same subject, both at 5.6, ISO100 around 35mm.
Same sharpening settings on both shots, focused (manually, but it beeped to confirm it was sharp according to the AF) on the transparent bead above the rose (my girlfriend makes these things, just had them around :p )

Tamron:

Pentax-M 35mm 2.8 prime:
http://www.twostroke.be/pics/pentax.jpg

Again same question: is this sharp 'enough'? Both look very similar to me (not a trained eye) so if bother are not sharp enough it might be the camera itself?
If both are sharp according to you guys I can get some sleep, if not, then I might take my gear back to have it checked by the retailer or manufacturer. The fact that the body was a returned unit has me worried (was about 100eur cheaper) ( but I do have warranty so...)

Again, I might be pixel peeping a bit to much at all might be well ... what do you think? :D

Filter off it is then! I'll try some shots and see what happens.
I do use the AF points, and sometimes MF.

You're right.

How about this one: http://twostroke.be/pics/lml.jpg

ISO 100, F8, 1/125

I'm really struggling to get fast speeds at a decent aperture, even in bright sunlight at 100 ISO. Does the UV filter make this worse?

Hello!

I have a K5-II and a Tamron 28-75 and this combo is supposed to be fairly sharp (thanks for the tips)
But I have a feeling that my pics aren't that sharp? Am I looking at it too closely or what?

I'd love to hear your impressions!

http://twostroke.be/pics/tourist.jpg

This is a clean shot, imported in Lightroom with the following sharpening settings:

Amount: 35
Radius: 1.4
Details 15

Shot info:

ISO100
43mm
f/9.0
1/60

Anyway, I want to be sure that there's nothing wrong with either the camera (open box purchase) or the lens.
If it's technique, then it's just something I need to work on . If it's just me zooming in to far, than that's just something I'll need to work on as well ;)

I've been 'out of the game' for a few years so I need to get up to speed :)

Cheers

Benny

That's two votes for the 18-135 :)

The zoom might be handy as my GF likes to take portraits (which I don't)

WR isn't a requierment for me actualy.

The 18-135 might be a better pick?
I was tempted by the Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Asph due to the fact that it's 2.8 and fairly cheap, same goes for the Tamron AF SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Asf. IF.

The 18-135 obviously has the biggest range...

Hmm :)

Hello,

I've been an amateur Nikon photographer and am looking to get back into 'the game'.
I've always liked the feel of Pentax camera's and am sure they're a mighty bit of kit so I'm looking into getting either a K5 II or K30.

I mostly do nature and architecture shots (on an amateur level) but want to take the occational snapshot of my little boy as well...

Here are a few combo's I've come up with, based on a Dutch retailer. Which should be best in the long run? I know that kitlenses on my Nikon where a bit sh*t so I'm not sure?

K5 II + SMC-DA 18-55 AL WR (kit): 889 €
K5 II + SMC-DA 18-55 AL WR + 50-200mm WR (kit): 1049 €
K5 II + SMC-DA 18-135mm ED AL DC WR (kit): 1139 €
K5 II + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 ex dc: 1394€ (which is a bit steep for me)
K5 II + Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro C HSM: 1294 € (also on the higher side)
K5 II + Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Asph: 1144 € (no image stabilisation, not sure if i need it?)

K30 + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 ex dc: 1116 €
K30 + Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro C HSM: 1016€
K30 + Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Asph 866€

So many options :) Maybe even something else?
Basicaly I'm willing to spend around 1200 for a package.

All tips are welcome!
