HD Teleconverter Officially Announced

Just got mine delivered an hour ago and have had a quick play during lunch.

Looks to work good on my DA*16-50 and DFA100 Macro, f stop and focal length are reported correctly (f2.8 = f4.0 and 100mm = 140mm), it also focuses fine with my Sigma 8-16 HSM but does not multiply the f stop and focal length (as stated in loads of places).

However!! I also have the original Sigma EX APO 70-200 f2.8 (screw drive) lens, with the 1.4x attached to a K3 the f stop and focal length are reported correctly in the exif, 70=98; 200=280 and f2.8=f4.0.

Will have a better look this evening just to make sure I've got it right.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread but I thought I would add a little info that may be helpful.

I’ve recently taken delivery of one of these and can concur with Rob that is does not work with the K5IIs, it will fire the first time the shutter is activated but won’t fire again, you have to dismount it or switch both off and on to get it to fire again.

However it works a treat with a K30 and that suits me fine as my K30 is setup as my macro body with a Katzeye split screen (uses the same screen as a K5, K5II/IIs). The unit is easy to use and is reasonably well built, and as has been mentioned it is a conventional flash, not LED’s (it has 2 LEDs for focus aid), has full adjustment from 1:1 to 1:128 in full stops or 1/3 stops, left or right tubes or a contrast ratio down to 1:8 either side, no P-TTL, it's manual all the way.

I hope this is helpful.

Regards

Brian

Hi All

I'll post this here as some of you chap and chapesses in the USA might not see this when searching on eBay.com as UK listings available to the US no longer show in your default search.

I have for sale a Sigma EX 180mm APO f3.5 Macro lens, I bought this a few months back without thinking, LBA at its worst, I already have both the D-FA 50mm and 100mm Macro lenses, I can't justify having them all so this is the one to go. Pretty rare lens, can't say I've seen more than 3 in pentax mount over the last couple of years and with the FA 200mm being as rare as hens teeth this lens is a very very good alternative.

Here is the ebay listing eBay.co.uk: PENTAX AF Mount ,Sigma EX 180mm APO Macro Lens f3.5 (item 300108188304 end time 10-May-07 21:28:44 BST).

As you can see from my ebay feed back and one feed back here for an earlier sale I'm pretty reputible (320+ 100% on ebay).
Drop me message if you have any questions.

I have not read all the posts so I apologise in advance if this has been suggested.

I would like to have high speed sync available in manual mode so I can use non P-TTL flashes without over exposing, thinking specifically about my costly investment in an AF-140c Ring Flash, even at 180/ f22 you get over exposure if you go really close.

Hi all

Since I have aquired an D FA100 f2.8 Macro (thanks Eric) my SMC-A 100 f2.8 Macro lens is up for sale (old eyes require help), I have in mind what I would let it go for (it was not cheap to buy) but for now I'm open to offers.

This is a beautifully constructed and extremely rare lens to find, the actual lens is in what I would describe as 9+ condition, it has an original pentax rear cap and a third party front cap (58mm), IIRC I have only ever seen this lens on ebay once in approx 3 years (I bought this one from a UK shop), I will post some images of the actual lens tomorrow.

Here are some comments about this lens from Stans page.......

Boz - Wonderfully sharp lens. Somewhat large and heavy, but definitely worth carrying around.

William Robb - I have yet to see a sharper lens, and I have seen a lot of lenses.

Bob Waldken - it's an absolutely superb lens. World-class build quality.

I'll let this run here for 10 days (16/03) before it goes to ebay.

I'm based in the UK, Paypal or personal cheque for UK buyers, Paypal only for international buyers, will post world wide, checkout my ebay user feedback, McBrian (300+ 100% positive)

Ok! I’ve had some brain fuel, a few coffees and some toast..Oh and a lemsip (got the cold)

The screen shot of SP, how did you get this to the web, because it's on the web it is displaying in sRGB and it's displaying the correct colours, so what does that tel us?

I'll assume it has not been processed through PS, is it a screen dump into MS Paint? If this is the case it's your PS setup that’s wrong, change your CS working space from Dell to AdobeRGB or sRGB depending on the output profile you use in SP (I prefer both + camera to be AdobeRGB as mentioned earlier), refer to Matt's instructions in the link I posted above.

Matt is one of most knowledgeable PS literate guy's that I know off to post in these forums, helped me enormously when I ran into colour management problems.

Edit.
Just noticed this line in the OP,

How did you do this? as far as I can see/know SP only has two output profiles, AdobeRGB or sRGB.

Hi aabram

I agree, thats why I said "resize and convert to sRGB" for web viewing. All I was trying to say is why start with 90% info (sRGB in camera) when you can have 100% (AdobeRGB in camera). As part of my workflow when I want to save for the web I have a little action in PS that resizes and converts to sRGB.

No No No...........Why shoot in the smallest colour space? AdobeRGB has a much wider gamut than sRGB, sRGB is the defacto colour space for web viewing not printing.

Hi Sashae

Check out this thread over at the UK Pentax users forum.....PentaxUser.co.uk :: View topic - Basic Colour Management: C1 & PS
It's written with Capture One in mind but all the essential setup info is there and is pertinent to Silkypix.

I have the K10D, SP3 and PS CS2 set up to work with AdobeRGB, from SP3 I export in 16bit Tiff and save the processed file as a tiff or PSD, if you save as jpg you have flung away a lot of unrecoverable info. When I want to upload an image to my pbase account I cnvert to sRGB, resize to and save as jpeg (if you use the save to web function it removes the exif info). Sending files for printing I follow the process labs instructions (I use a lab that uses an Agfa profile).

Hope this helps.

All items now listed on eBay

Hi All

I've got too much gear so I thought I would offer it here before it goes on ebay.

PENTAX SMC-A 100mm f4 Dental Macro Lens, (have an SMC-A 100 f2.8)
In very nice condition, glass is crystal clear, externally there are no marks, scratches or dents, rear cap only, UV filter on front.

PENTAX AF-140c TTL Ring Flash: (I seem to have aquired 2, so one has to go)
In excellent condition, there are a few marks (light scratches and shine dulling) on both the module and the flash unit. I only have the 49mm attachment ring, there should be a 52mm and 58mm as well but I'm sure these are available direct from Pentax, no case or instruction manual.

PENTAX FA 24-90 f3.5-4.5 IF AL Lens (does not get much use now as I have both the 16-45 and 50-200 for walking around)
In very nice condition, glass is crystal clear, externally there are no marks, scratches or dents, Boxed with both original caps and petal hood.

PENTAX*istD Body (have K10D, can't see me using it again unless the K10 breaks)
In great condition, has taken around 8K images from new, Boxed with all accessories (strap, leads, software etc) but no manual (lost, but if I can find it you get it too).

PENTAX Battery Grip D-BG1 (see above)
In great condition, boxed.

PENTAX Super A c/w Winder MEII (have too many film bodies, my Z1-P will be my film body of choice)
Both in nice condition.

I'm based in the UK, can post pics if required. Paypal or personal cheque for UK buyers, Paypal only for international buyers, checkout my ebay user feedback, McBrian (300+ 100% positive)

I've been a C1 user since I got my *istD about 2½ years ago, I got very comfortable with its interface but with no support for DNG or K10D pef's on the horizon I was recommended Silkypix DS 3 by the image guru (Hi Matt) over at the UK pentax users forum for processing K10D DNG/PEF files (beta 3.03 has K10D pef support), I wont be using C1 much in the future, Silkypix DS 3 is a must for raw convertion. As Kjsak mentions you can get a 30day trial, the full program is 16000YEN (£72 or $140), IMO you wont regret purchasing it.
