Wow. I hadn't seen that. Glad I didn't buy anything. I should probably just save my money.

Will be interesting to compare the 28+adapter against the zoom. The zoom would probably suite me better though. Better start saving pennies. $1349 preorder price at B&H.

Hi all. Havn't been on the forums for a while. Still some awesome images coming through here. I'm still very happy with my A7. I'm still playing around with my lens selections. I keep not wanting to like the kit lens, but it rarely lets me down. It is still my only AF lens for the camera so is used for all climbing photography. Here is one from a couple of weeks back.

I took the K28 on holidays with me last week so have some shots from it to post up. Within the last week I also picked up a Zeiss 35-70/3.4 which I have had my eye on for a while.

I'm still not happy with my wide angle options so the thoughts about this above are appreciated. I want something wider than 28mm. My Elmarit-R 24mm is ok, but doesn't really wow me. I've just picked up a Pentax A24-50/4 in budget exterior condition. So I'll give that a whirl soon. I only recently became aware of it (and similar pentax options) and was really drawn to the zoom range for hiking.

I'm looking forward with anticipation to the release of the FE wide angle zoom, but I doubt I'll be able to afford it.

Edit: Thinking of taking advantage of the ebay 15% off thing. I have about $500 to spend. Any recommendations for a 20-24mm lens? A couple of options around my price point I've found are: Contax-Zeiss 25mm distagon, Pentax FA* 24mm

I've been a bit absent recently. Some excellent shots as usual. Love that flower shot pinholecam.

Here a few of my recent ones:

Firstly I went on a walk and only took the kit lens. I think it is quite adequate.

Went away for a couple of nights over Easter climbing. These are all with the Elmarit R 60mm:

Ta. Yeah, I've got various graduated and selective filters on it already. I'll try fiddling with the colour balance on the top half.

Any suggestions on how to do this? Maybe increase the contrast just in the clear part of the sky? I'm still learning with post-processing and mainly only use LR. PS is a bit scary.

PS. Got my refund from Grays online for the Tamron lens today. Now trying to sell the LA-EA4. If anyone is keen I'm selling for $250AUD. I wouldn't recommend it as your primary option (like I was hoping to use it), but if you have some Minolta or Sony A lenses this is a good price to give it a go.

I actually go for a similar style of shot with my cats out in the front sunroom where there is usually high contrast. I've gone for the same effect you've gotten in PP to bring out the markings in the coat. So yes, I like the mistake. :)

Lovely cat shot. Beautiful light on the fur and the lovely little bokeh balls on the longer fur in the background is great.

Thanks. It is a pano taken with the Leica Elmarit-R 60mm.

Here is the latest edit. Any C&C appreciated.

I haven't noticed anything ground breaking with the new firmware. Startup time is probably more reliable and constant.

Great shots all.

- Love the wide angle shot of the city scape pinholecam.
- I thought that turtle was in the air on my phone too Christine
- Great action shot Malfunction

Welcome Photoshoper. Beautiful photo.

Love the reptile pics Christine. Good to see you using some Pentax glass. :)

I got out to the Granite Belt again.

Panorama using the Leica 60mm macro. Just purchased PTGUI which I used to stitch 20 photos in 3 rows.

A couple with a borrowed Tamron Adaptall 90mm/2.5 macro. Great sharpness, but as the owner described, shocking flare/sensor reflection dead center if there is even a whiff of bright light. I reduced the blue saturation on these to try and compensate.

A couple with the kit zoom

Finally a few with a Leica Elmarit-R 24/2.8
This one was bracketed and run through the Enfuse plugin for LR which I just got.

There was a big thunderstorm rolling in from the left here. I was desperately trying to get some lighting to somehow blend into the sunset. Wasn't successful. Any tips for lightning? I tried adding a ND filter to increase the exposure length and increase my chances of getting it, but it just didn't show up in the photo. Not bright and/or close enough?

Love this shot.

I'm pretty happy with how this one ended up. Forest Lake is a local man made lake that we regularly use for evening walks. This was one of the more impressive sunsets I've caught there. Taken with the Pentax K28/3.5 and stitched.
Although dead still water would have made for a beautiful reflection, I really like the textures caused by the ripples.

Yeah, I'm going to send the Tamron back and sell the adapter. I'd keep the Tamron and use it manually if it had an aperture ring but it bugs me not knowing what the aperture is. Thinking the kit lens will be good enough for rock climbing shots and for bushwalking I'm thinking of getting a C/Y 35-70/3.4 and pairing that with either a 24 or 28mm wide angle. I would buy a Tamron 28-75 if they brought out a native E mount.

My first reaction with the AF was, hmm that's a bit slow. I'm not that picky about these things usually, but even I noticed it was a bit slow. Bear in mind this is screw drive with the Tamron. The other main thing I've noticed is that the shutter release process takes longer and is dependent on what the aperture is set to. If it needs to stop down the aperture it takes longer. I wouldn't exactly call it shutter lag because the process of shutter release starts at the same point when you press the button. The whole thing just takes longer though.

Unfortunately, my first reactions are that I've taken a step back compared to using my K30 with the 17-50. :\ I've got another week or so before my change of mind return period runs out on the lens, so I'll try and use it as much as I can during that time to make up my mind.

Lovely shots.

I took the plunge and got the LA-EA4 adapter. I'm not so sure about it though. Bigger than I expected. And operation just feels a bit clunky and slow.

Anyway, I'll persist for a while yet. It does (literally) balance the camera with Tamron 28-75 on it and gives you something to hold.

Great shots Christine. No one else is really bothering with these wide angle RF lenses that I've seen. You're really making the most of them despite the weaknesses in the combination.

Yes, the bokeh is a nice surprise. That definitely wasn't a strength of the 17-50. Like you noted above, there is a big difference in the colours between the Tamron and the kit.

Tamron 28-75:

DSC01911.jpg by CameronS884, on Flickr

I did some more controlled testing with it compared to the kit zoom. The kit zoom has very good flare and CA resistance (unless there is some in camera raw processing happening). The Tamron does seem more consistantly sharp across various settings. Will do some more testing before deciding to fork out for the la-ea4 adapter.

Here's some very unscientific test shots. I'll take more over the coming days. I haven't done any major changes to these except a bit of exp adjustment.

Stopped down a little

Wide open I think

Wide open & 28mm.

Wide open & 75mm

Bit of shadow boosting in this one. You can't really see it because of the black feathers but there is a lot of detail in the bird. Colours are very vibrant.

Stopped down around f10ish

Wow, look at the colour and textures in those feathers!

I like the curved edge of the railings in contrast to the sharp corners of the roof.

The Tamron 28-75 just showed up too, so plenty of lenses to test at the moment. The Tamron is beautifully compact. About the same as the 17-50 I'd say. I've only got a manual adapter at the moment so I was very nicely surprised at how good the focus ring feels. Nicely damped.

I found focusing the fa43 not the best experience. Smooth but not damped. Took beautiful photos though.

Focus peaking can be turned on or off via the function menu or a custom button.

Focus magnification isn't automatic with manual lenses. Can be assigned to a custom button.

No loss of IQ. There is no glass in the adapters. Check out the various Pentax lens on FF or Sony threads around the forums for examples.

Took the Elmarit 60 out for a quick stroll this arvo. Wow. Amazing bokeh and super sharp.

See if you can spot the critter in this one. I didn't until I looked at the photo on the computer when I got home.
