Is there any reason why the camera says it's in Tav mode when I put the mode dial to M?did I accidentally alter/press something to change the 'M' function?
Thanks
Tracy

Thank you very much! I only have one AF Lens right now, the Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro. It's proving pretty useful as an all around lens until I can buy more.

Thanks Loco and JohnnyB, you are 100% correct and I would never have figured it out (couldn't locate it in the manual either). To be honest Loco, i'm not really used to any OVF. I did have a few days with the Nikon D600, which probably explains why I find the K30 a little dim, but have for the past year had Sony Alpha's and a NEX 7 with their EVF's, so a whole new ball game for me....and I'm actually loving it. :)

Thanks guys. currently shooting in M mode so no auto ISO, and with the Sigma 70mm f2.8.
I don't mind the VF being a little dim really, I can adjust. But I'm still no wiser as to the ISO button problem. At the moment when the AF is set to selective point (or flexible spot, whatever it's name) to change ISO I have to go back into the info menu, disable the selective AF and then I can use the ISO button to change the value. A bit long winded!

Hi,

I just bought the Pentax K30 and it's great. But, I find the VF very dim. Is this the usual?

Also, when flexible spot is enabled the four way controller is only useable to move the AF point, thereby disabling other functions, such as ISO etc. Is this also correct?

Apologies for dumb questions :)

OVF

after selling my sony A57 and ordering an A77, which has been 'lost' between dispatch and delivery; Sony failing to even check with the warehouse as to tracking etc, i really might ditch Sony.

I am impressed with the K01, to say the least. Is there an OVF available for it? My only gripe being screen visibility in bright conditions. (im in the UK)

I could splash for a K5/ii/s but i do like live view and peaking.

M42 mount lenses on K-01

I love peaking on the NEX series and the Alpha series too, but on the NEX 7 the peaking is not as reliable due to the increased pixel count.

I just got a K01 and have a few M42 lenses, including a 50mm 1.4.

For me the peaking on the KO1 is fabulous, better than the NEX IMO, and I haven't struggled to achieve critical focus wide open.

I don't 'do' flowers, mostly portrait, but here are a couple I took today with the K01 and 50mm 1.4 combo:

My first day out with the Q

Thanks for your reply and kind words. I really am enjoying this little camera. Im used to Aspc sized sensors so was unsure how I would feel about it, given the lack of DOF control etc. But to be honest, it really is a creative little package. I can take it anywhere and the AF improvement post firmware update is huge! I have the prime and the zoom at present. I like the idea of the fisheye and yes, a fixed aperture zoom would be cool!

I have the K01 - still debating whether to keep it, but I like it equally as much as the Q. but I am waiting (and waiting) for a Sony A77, which comes with the 16-50 f2.8. If I hadn't already ordered this I might seriously consider the K01 over it, despite the lack of a VF and fixed aperture zoom. I am a Sony fan, but I think I can call myself a Pentax fan now too. :)

I like it a lot! Never wanted to, never expected to. Got a Q and picked up the K out of curiosity as the price with the 40XS is pretty low right now. Fantastic stuff so far. :)

I am leaning that way M. Had to send the Q back as the second lens was missing, getting a replacement tomorrow. Another shot from the K, I know its a bit ponsey but I bought the hat for £1 today and the kids had a whale of a time with it :)

Your photos are fantastic Rense. The dreamy dandelion is superb.

I have the exact same lens, again, don't know much about its construction, but its pretty sharp. Excuse the pics, they were taken when I first started in photography, almost a year ago.

I was really hoping I wouldn't. I've picked up a Q and decided its a keeper. But the K01 was a surprise winner. Still undecided as it its fate. Shots like this don't make it any easier:

Thanks Guys. its so tough! I only picked up the K01 as the price is so good and find it to be better than my expectations of it. I got the Q to compare to the V1, as a compact solution, but really don't like the V1 at all, despite the larger sensor and supposed faster AF.

Truly, if I didn't already have an Alpha body, it would be easy. I would keep both and be a happy camper :)

I agree with pinholecam, the AF of the X100 is not as good as the K01. THe handling in general of the X100 was really very quirky. I find the K01 handling very logical and the AF very good in comparison.

I have just bought a K01 and a Q, but cannot decide which one to keep. The K01 has fantastic image quality, the 40mm Xs is great ad generally its excellent....it's not very compact though. It is a bargain at the moment £299.

The Q - its a mini K01! Very functional, snappy AF (now I've updated the FW) and gorgeous to boot. The price; pretty expensive £411 for what I consider to be a compact (great for Birders' I know).

The problem is, both are fantastic, but I have an Alpha body already and i'm not sure I need another DSLR sized body. I don't have Pentax lenses but I do have quite a few M42. THe problem with the Q is that although in the market for a compact it is quite a lot of money. I cant afford both.

What do you guys think? Compact or IQ? (I would love to keep both) Is the old Q going to drop in price any further?

Kind Regards (and apologies if this has been answered before)
Tracy :)
