Sure, it's not a knock out punch nowadays - heck I use zooms a lot, there's arguments for both... but primes have their use. Not necessarily as resolution monsters, but size/weight/aperture are important. There's no zoom that covers 20mm full frame with a pocketable size as an afterthought, for example. Maybe the FA 20-35 or FA-J 18-35, but both are substantially bulkier than the M20/4 - which makes a great two-lens kit with the 77 (or with a 50/1.7).

So this is even 'heavily' cropped? I think you need to reevaluate your expectations. You are shooting an APS-C camera, and 51,200 is an exceptionally high ISO. This is a normal result and no cause for disappointment.
If you want better performance, get a full frame. Or get a faster lens that allows you to shoot at f/2.8 and ISO 12,800 instead.
