Thanks Jewel and C_Rockies. Thanks for your feed back. I'm surprised there were fewer advicates for their lens. I'll have to make a quick trip to my local supplier and shoot both. I like the DA* because of the build quality and autofocus. The Tamron looks to control CA a bit better and I feel it may have a bit less vignetting.
I'll keep you up to date.

Hi Folks,
I'm shopping for a wide angle for my K20D and looking for feedback from the forum.
My options in no order are;
Pentax DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED/AL (IF) SDM
Sigma 17-34mm f2.8-4 EX DG
Tamron AF17-50mm f2.8 di-II LD
I would like to hear from those of you who have experience with any of the lens, good bad and ugly.
I would be happy to hear about other options I've missed. I have my trusty FA 50mm f/1.4 so I don't have to go to 50mm. My Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro does quite well for the longer ranges and conditions I tend to shoot.
I'm really looking for a replacement to an older full frame FA 28-80 which just isn't up to the task on the K20D.

I'm a bit late getting in, but I shoot with the Tamron 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro on my K20D all the time. And find it capable of great shots. Assuming you're not shooting in very low lighting conditions. I do a great deal of sport and wildlife shoots with great success. If I'm in very low light condtins and reasonably close to the subject I'm using my FA 50 f/1.4 (~ 70mm equiv) which produces excellent results.
Most of the older full frame glass will do fine. Your sensor is right in the sweet spot of the glass. Even large prints will look good. You should start looking for better glass once you're pushing 11 - 14" prints.

Wow, there are some fantastic images here. I spent 2 hours agonizing over a top 5 list. I finally selected based on this definition of negative space.

In Ottawa (Bank Street) you will find both Vistek and Henry's (I've found Vistek to have a small price point advantage.
