repair to Tokina lens

I have a Tokina 100/300 RMC lens with damage on the filter ring. (It is 55mm) There is a ding in one side and I was wondering if anyone had repaired one before. Specifically I was wondering about tap, etc that I could clean the threads out with after straightening the ring.
I am aware that the lens is not a great one but I have used it for over 30 years or so.

Thanks for you help with this.

Well, obviously you can teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks to all for pointing out what should have been obvious to me. Once again, I am glad to be a part of a forum with genuine help, not criticism.

Problem with e-books

This week I purchased an e-book, from this site, from Yvon Bourque, titled "Pentax K70". I now have two problems with this purchase:
1- He advertises the ability to print the book. I wanted page 74. I do not have the capability nor desire to print in color, so the "blue" text cannot be read when I print it. I also am unwilling to pay Abode for the ability to change the font colors in their pdf.s. (I know, that is a "me" problem:) Which leads to the 2nd problem.
2- I posted a query/reply to the link for purchase and have received no response. I am aware of the policy and am not asking for a refund. I just would like to at least have someone respond to my query.

I understand the reason for the "blue" denoting an internal link but would like to be able to print usable portions of the book. Overall I feel the book will be very helpful. I always have purchased after-market books for each camera. (K10, K30, K70)

Thanks, I probably will go with the K-70 and try the fixes here on the K-30. I had planned on selling it but not with the problem.

My K-30 started black pics last week. Have read most of posts in this thread. Tested with a Vivitar 28mm, f2.8 and problem left. It seems I have ap-block problem. My question is how likely are the K-70's to develop this problem? I have been wanting to up grade for some time and planned to purchase a K-70 but I don't want the hassle of this rather common problem.
Thanks. wdb

K 30 shutdown

Just a matter of a few minutes. When it came back to life it had been inserted about 8 to 10 minutes. I thought to begin with that it might be battery related. I am not certain that the camera was turned off when I put it up. I normally have the timer set to turn off in 5 minutes. I was just wondering if there was any other problem relating to the K 30 that might cause this.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Any ideas? I put my K 30 up 2 weeks ago, went to use it this AM and no response at all. Changed battery for one just charged. No response again. Changed battery several times, nothing. Finally camera responded but had reverted to original set-up screen. (Date, time, etc.) Set date and time, seems to be OK. Again, any ideas?

You're right about not looking enough. I was looking at classes, not specific brands. Thanks for you quick response.

I thought I had done sufficient research before I purchased 2 Sony SDHC 32 gb, 40mps, type 10. When I try them in my K 30, firmware ver. 1.05, I get a "memory card error" message. Upon entering the menu and trying to format the cards I get the same message. Can anything point me to a work-around or should I just attempt to find someone who can use them.

I have been unable to find where I bought them. I don't have the original packaging. As my nephew has told me, the old CRS disease is hitting me hard.

Thanks all, really enjoy the site.

One more proof that the Forum works even if the camera doesnt. Was about to tear my hair out (tough to do with a flat-top:) over 2 SONY SDHC UHS-I 32gb cards when I decided to check here to see if any other K-30 owners had the same problem. I see that my idea that the software upgrade to 105 also won't work. Well, time to backup and punt.

I'm sorry, I should have stated that the messages did help. Especially regarding "User 1" and "User 2". I will set-up those options and try them.
BTW, although I've not posted much here I've really enjoyed reading the posts and have learned a lot from them. I like the way that the forums are setup and the feeling of being in a caring, supportive community.

K30 custom menu

Thanks to all who took the time to answer.

I was intrigued by a remark by Jeff Cable, on one of B & H's youtube videos, that he uses custom menus to quickly access features for settings. He was shooting with a Canon, high-end I'm sure and i wanted to do the same.

BTW, the K30 is my second Pentax DSLR and I love it. I started with used Pentax equipment 25 years ago. I put them aside for several years and in '07 bought a D100 Super, which my grandson is using for a 10th grade photography class.

Again, much thanks to all.

K30 custom menu

I've searched the K30 manual for references to setting a "custom" menu and can't find any. Does anyone know of a way to set a custom menu up? I would like to be able to have a short menu with my most used functions on it. Thanks for any input, either way.

I've just joined the forum. Currently I am using my K100D-Super and my K30. I have 3 pentax slr's and several manual lenses, some Vivatar, some Sigma but most of the 6 or 7 I have are Pentax.

Where would I find some info on hand-held meters? Until I loaned it to my nephew several years ago, I had an analog Pentax Spotmeter and I am looking to get another meter.

Thanks for all the info I've already stolen from the forums. :)
