Great little gem!!
Until very recent, I only knew this little German lens by reputation. I've been following a few on eBay, but recent auctions ended very high!
By accident I stumbled across not one, but two of them! The first one I've found on the 2nd hand shelve of my favorite photography shop, and the other one, two days later, on a flee market just around the corner.
The first had a lazy diaphragm, but after 4 hours of tinkering, I've managed to get it back to live :)
Some first results with my new arrivals
1 until 4: shot with the left and probably most recent version: definitely sharper, but a bit more vignetting!
5 until 8: the oldest version, before I revived the diaphragm, so all wide open (F2.4)
8 is an unprocessed pixel crop, by the way.

Thx, I used my other (black) K-5 and the Da*16-50/2.8)
It's to soon for that :) I've just used it for a few shots indoor and that went very well :)
Overall this lens looks quite promising. The sharpness wide open is very very workable (yes all pics are wide open) and the bokeh is dizzying :)

In my search for a A*135/1.8, I stumbled over an almost even rare Soligor 1:2 135mm (C/D) M42 lens :)
It arrived this morning! :)
First some shots off the lens itself, then some quick impressions.
My first impression is that it's sharper than I expected. Rendering and contrast is a bit flat (probably because of the lack of coating). All shots wide open without postprocessing.
Is it sharp enough? :)
Even through double glazing :)
Interesting bokeh (no noise reduction)
Some 'vintage' rendering and contrast (100% sensor crop) |

Just use some sanding paper to wear off some of the felt inside the cap... (and clean thoroughly).

Hey Sai,
The difficult part is removing the 6 small screws by which the chrome mount is fixed to the lens barrel. In some lenses the are 'glued' to the mount by accumulated dirt or screwed in to firmly to remove by regular consumer screwdrivers. Your local watch or jewelery seller probably has more professional material to unscrew them (regular cheap screwdrivers can mess up the screws easier than you would think).
A good tip is to take pictures of each step (just for yourself and for an interesting thread on this forum :p )!
The only tricky part in dissembling the mount of a A-lens is the spring that drives the diaphragm driving plate (circular shaped piece of metal). It's a good idea to remove the actual chrome mount very slowly, and try to look between the half remove mount and the rest of the lens, while keeping the diaphragm flange in its place and look at the position of the spring, the copper contacts and the little boomerang shaped piece of metal that works like a contact switch between the A-setting and the manual F-stops.
Maybe have a try with a cheap A50/2 or so?
You are always welcome to come over to Belgium and let me do the fiddling :D
Good luck!
Frederik

Changing a mount is easy. Just needs a replacement A-lens with an equal amount of "Holes", et voilà... (or drill some extra holes in the embossed spaces in the mount).

On this I agree
Sure do! Always possible that you've found a third one.
The buyer of the first one I mentioned, is even member of this forum.

$10.000 is a strong exageration. One in Holland went for €2500 last year, another one in the UK for €3500. (about $4650, on the top of my head).

Very relevant information Pepe! An indication that the lens is 'old' and 'used' is off course not a single problem :)
Anybody else with other experiences?

Hey littledrawe,
Thanks for you support/interest :)
I know there is a import tax from the US to the EU (about 25% on top), but I'm not aware of importaxes from the EU to the US, but I can be wrong! Does someone from you side of the ocean have any experiences in that direction?
To be seriously honest: I can stretch my asking price a little bit (lets say €1250), but not to the asking price of the Italian seller (who sold an other A*300/2.8 for about €1500, just a few months ago, to the same buyer as my A*600/5.6). Who am I to blame him for going under a normal price (it's his lens, not mine), but my lens is to dear for me to do that. I'ld rather take it off the market then. Maybe I can make a family member happy with it.
That was also the reason why I sold my A*600/5.6 to "bratzmahn" in stead of the other 10 candidates around the globe for it. Lenses like this are like family members to me (I know it sounds tacky...). The fact that Thomas was a passionated nature photographer who treats his material the same way as I do, convinced me. Selling it for a bargain just to get rid of it ... no... it would break my heart (yes I'm a romantic).

It was extremely nice meeting you Thomas! Hope to see some of your 600mm-work soon!
So the A*600/5.6 has found a new owner, the A*300/2.8 is still available. To all interested, I gladly suggest this graphic. :)
