Pentax had in the old days of film a very good reputation as think tank of the big companies and the lens between 1970 and 1990 were (my opinion) better than Canons FD and on par with Nikons F. A lot of professionals worked with the manual Pentax.
But with the race for the best AF they lost new customers to Nikon and Canon and even more as they forgot to invent a digital SLR.
I changed from my LX to Canon 20D and 5D, because Pentax had nothing comparable. And the last professional model with the Z1n was long ago. I waited with changing the system, because the lenses I had were superb.
For my work I use today Canon with EF-lenses and Olympus mFT, sometimes my SMC Takumars on 5D and for fun and creative work I use Nex and Canon with my old Zeiss, Nikkors and Takumars.
I think it is important for sustainability of the company that Pentax has a FF Cam and lenses for professionals. Equipment for $500 (zoom plus body) you will change every 2 years, no matter which company it is. A couple of lenses for $1000-$2000 you will keep a long time and put again and again the new body behind.

The first pic shows the shortend mirror.
I did it not by myself, I sent it to a company in Germany who made it for me.
It is the offical Canonworkshop not allowed to modify the specification of equipment.

Hi
No, the viewfinder is the same. AF works with the EF lenses as usual. And with the M42 and others I use Liveview.
One disadvantage of the shorter mirror is the dust, there is more than normal.

Hi
I had the problem, that some of my vintage M42-lenses from Pentax and Zeiss hang on the mirror of the Canon 5D Mark 2.
I let the mirror shorten about 2mm and now even my Exakta-lenses will work.
By the "modern" Takumars I had to grind the M42-adapters a little bit that the aperture-lever has place.
Here some examples with my Takumar 2.3/35mm and 2/58mm:

Hi
I'm Andreas from Switzerland.
I startet in 1982 with Cosina and K-Mount. Then I had K1000, LX, SFXn, Z1 and Z1n.
In 2005 I went to the Digitalworld and bought Canon.
Now I have a couple of Takumars (35/2.3, 50/1.4, 55/1.8, 58/2, 85/1.8, 135/2.5, 200/3.5) to take pictures with Sony Nex-6 and a modified Canon EOS 5D Mark 2.
I came to this forum, because I'm looking for infos and examples of old preset and auto Takumars.
best regards
Andreas
