Hi Canadian Blue,
Very annoying what happened to the "water resistant" K3III. I have been shooting with Pentax since the ME Super and Super A/Program. I remain loyal to the brand despite my extra expenses due to SDM (300 4.0) and aperture (various bodies) problems. My most recent trouble free bodies are K1 and KP. Besides K5 bodies, I have no experience with K3 I/II/III. I would consider a discount on a new K3III to be lenient. Maybe you can photograph with extra water/moisture protection for the body? But maybe this isn't possible? Hopefully you will remain loyal to the brand?!

I have both lenses (P 150-450 & S 50-500). The Sigma is "good" and the Pentax is "better" regarding sharpness. 50mm difference is irrelevant (because of cropping). Often the 80/20 rule applies. Here too, you pay up to 80% more for about 20-30% better quality.

"Pentax HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE" is the lens you must have. For sure for 100%. Razor sharp at aperture 8.0. Recommended for everything, including wildlife.

Good news. Let's assume that more Nikon (and Canon) users will switch to Pentax.

The Pentax community was unfortunately (too) critical, partly because "the specs" were supposedly not good enough. And perhaps linked to the lack of a new K3. The very compact, sturdy and retro KP (and the K-01) are my favorite bodies. I hope Ricoh realizes that a KP "mark II" does indeed make a body without a prism unnecessary. A bright prism viewfinder remains great! And the combination with a compact 18-50 is also great!

OK I get your conclusion. Thank you for your advice! I'm going to look for a suitable lens hood.

Thank you for your response. Your story is clear to me! To my surprise, I find the (SMC) 18-50 optically "good" (enough). Mechanically I think it's "reasonable". I think I'll stop looking for an HD version.

Being very enthusiastic about the SMC 18-50mm I tried to buy the HD 18-50mm as well. So far I have not succeeded. I asked RICOH if the HD is still available... On (the) site(s) it seems unclear to me whether they mean the SMC or the HD version. Strange, but I have not yet received a response from RICOH Europe. Another supplier has it on order for me now....

Congratulations!
The KP is my most favorite camera. The body is retro and compact. Also reminds me of my old Super A (Program A) European Camera of the year 1983. Have fun with it!

I have the SMC version. There are no problems at all with the plastic mount. That also applies to the DA35 and DA50 plastic mounts!

There is only 1 option for the K1 and that is the not cheap and not light but excellent (AF and sharpness) 150-450 mm. To be used with a monopod. No problem at all.

Good idea to keep the PLM. I am always amazed at how good the lens is (AF and sharpness).
The DA☆300 is of course a great lens, it is an FF design! I'm just extremely disappointed by the AF. As a huge Pentax fan (!!) I don't just want to praise but just be honest. Maybe you will run into a nice DA 300 ☆. Have fun with the PLM!!!

I have experience with all three lenses (the light and compact 55-300 PLM / DA 300 4.0 / 150-450). The 55-300 PLM is extremely sharp as a tele at F8. I would find that the heavier DA300 adds little (possibility to shoot high ISO with the PLM, slow -and bad- AF of DA 300 4.0, in addition, the bright DA 200 2.8 is -much- better than the DA 300 in terms of sharpness, you can do quite a bit crop). For "upgrading" I would go for the DA 200 or the great 150-450 (saving up if necessary because this real telephoto zoom lens is more than worth it, but heavy again of course...). I myself notice that I am more and more inclined to link the light 55-300 PLM (and the 18-50 PLM) to my KP .... ---------- Post added 06-29-22 at 02:18 PM ---------- Addition : it's true that the 1.4 converter works well with the DA 300. However, I bought a 2nd copy of the DA 300 whose AF is bad, haven't used it for a while and wonder if I can still get it to work, then divestment of 2 X 1,200 (??)... But these are just my opinions and experiences, those of the others are just as valuable...

Totally agree, this is the best way. Easy to grab. And you won't damage anything.

What's the problem here? The equipment plays only a limited role. Indeed, with the K5II(S) and, for example, an SMC DA 16-45 4.0 you can still take great photos.... Much more fun than with a mobile and less complex than a drone.

I always use AF-S (also with the 55-300 PLM) with everything else based on spot (AF point / light metering, etc.). Focus again and again with shutter release button. In my experience this gives the best results, also with birds. Aperture at F8 (best resolution), but higher ISO (1600 / 3200) to get the shutter speed as short as possible (given the amount of light). Take several photos and then get a sharp one in between.

The KP is a great camera. I've decided to take it everywhere with me. Light combinations with the SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8 or the SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL (Limited lenses in my opinion, but in a solid plastic fantastic housing). I confirm the ease of working with manual AF lenses (on the KP).

I have experience with both KS2 and KP. I mainly use the KP. There is little difference in photo quality. But the KP feels like a real piece of equipment. The different handles (in thickness) are very handy. The body feels very slim. It is my most favorite body. Recommended!

Also my first camera in 1984: Pentax Super A, European Camera of the Year 1983 in black. With the black KP I have that feeling back a bit.

I agree. Between my K1/K5IIS, my KP is the absolute favorite. For example, the 50 1.4 goes on the KP (lighter and narrower) and the 85 1.4 on the K1 (heavier and larger, but best optical results). I think that for practical reasons K3III is the successor of KP (which was unfairly criticized by us as users). No experience with K3 III yet. ---------- Post added 04-27-22 at 07:18 AM ----------

Beautiful text on a new T-shirt. ---------- Post added 10-18-21 at 08:47 AM ---------- However number 11 WITHOUT the big Q because the Q system ended...

Very good designs! The "simplicity" of number 11 is great. I would definitely buy some of these and wear them often!
I also appreciate the technical 7/10/17.
