The front element is indeed not weather sealed. Firelfly is to WR what Blackstone is to AW

For wedding, I think the FA77 f/1.8 is the lens you need and it will work with the K-1. I have it together with the FA 31mm and they are wonders of sharpness and bokeh. I wouldn't go for anything else personally

I am afraid you are right. I was hoping that Zeiss might open up to the K mount or that Sigma would build such a lens (they have old ones from the same age as the Tamron I have with lesser quality) ---------- Post added 10-25-16 at 07:47 PM ----------
Mmm... yes I know the wonderpana with 150mm filter. Way too big and impractical for my use. I agree that the D FA 70-200 is a heavy lens as well. What is happening with Tamron? They used to produce light and compact lenses. Now they are into the heavy, bulky... ---------- Post added 10-25-16 at 07:51 PM ----------
I like this lens and it is actually ok in terms of sharpness from f/5.6 and lower apertures, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having 36MP with no low pass filter on a 35mm sensor, since the lens is outresolved at any aperture?

As I said, "it does the job", but I find it difficult to swallow, to have such a resolution on my K-1, on an AA-filter less sensor and not being able to really benefit from it since the sensor outresolves the lens.

I am a very happy K-1 user but there is one thing that frustrates me. The 15-30mm f/2.8 lens is a great lens but it does't fit my purpose unfortunately. I am a landscape photographer and travel a lot and this lens is too heavy for my use and the main issue is that it doesn't have any filter thread.
Canon makes a fantastic 16-35 f/2.8 (iii) and a 16-35 f/4 with weather sealed features and so, Nikon as well, and then Sony/Zeiss. They all take filters (most have 82mm threads that work well with the 100mm Lee system).
I don't mind it it is a third party lens (Tamron, Sigma) but this is something that I really miss at the moment. I do have the Tamron 17-35 f/2.8-4 that almost does the job, but it is not weather sealed, it's design and construction is 10y old and it is not the sharpest at wide aperture.
So please, Pentax, listen to frustrated landscape photographer and do something about it...
That was it... thanks chaps :)

I so much understand. Tried it at a Photo show and that was also my first impression. I went for a second hand Tamron 17-35 f/2.8/4 and so far I am very happy with the compromise. It is light, relatively sharp from f/4 and smaller apertures and can hold a 100mm filter holder. Does the job for me

The blackstone is like Pentax AW lenses. The Firefly is more WR like. For the price difference, I would go for the Blackstone to get full Weather Sealing

Don't forget. Canon doesn't have in-body stabilisation, it might just be the wrong choice of aperture, hyperfocal and some hand shaking. Difficult to judge the quality of a lens from sample pictures if they are not shot by a technically sound photographer... This being said, I can see a difference between the centers and corners but this isn't obvious

Thanks a lot mate. I just did the modifications as you suggested step by step. Worked like a charm for me ;-) ---------- Post added 10-01-16 at 01:14 PM ----------
Thanks mate. Mine worked too but I kept the original baffle (cardboard and black flocking material for telescopes).
I did a few tests and I noticed something strange with my K-1. When I zooming in the longest range and I shut the aperture to say f/9 in Av mode, I get an overexposed picture of about 2 stops. Not sure if it is the modification but it is something I never noticed before.
*** Edited message ***
Found the culprit. It was my "Cardboard baffle" that was a tad too wide and was exercising some pressure on the aperture mechanism and preventing the lens from shutting the aperture. I have fixed it now and it works.
Lesson learned: if you choose to go for the homemade baffle vs dremmeled one, make sure you measure it to the millimeter and test that the mechanism is still working inside the lens.

I saw it mounted on a Canon body but just looked through the viewfinder. If you Google it, you will see that a few tests have been done with Canon and Nikon bodies

I just asked them about the K-mount availability for this lens and I got this answer (today):
"
The Pentax K-mount version will be ready for sell by the end of this month.
Yours sincerely,
Tim Graff
"
I saw this lens at the photography show, it looks very solidly made, is weather sealed and the focus ring is smooth like a baby's b... I think it will be on my shopping list to replace my Samyang 14mm...

Ok, now is time! I bought my K-1, tested it, loving it, but is there anything that I don't like about it? Don't be surprised, I am French and I like a little bit of complaint and negativity
Yes there are so many things to love about the K-1, dynamic range, flipping screen, pixel shift, crop mode, gps and wifi, silent trigger (love the sound), but what about the things I didn't like?
1. Why did they invert the LV and image preview button??
What the hell? I had a K-5, K-5 IIs, K-3 and the live view button was always on the right side of the screen, meaning that you could use it as an exposure check with one hand, checking quickly if you have no blown out highlights or checking you bokeh. Why didn't they swap their positions??? Pentax please, could you upgrade the firmware and make this a customisable choice?
2. I can't get the idea behind the new "quick access" dial on the right
It is probably a well thought through design choice but why not using the rear dial and not sacrifice the top information LCD screen in size? Things like exposure compensation or ISO already have their own button, was it really necessary?? You can even program exposure compensation on the rear dial! Doesn't make sense at all to me...
3. Why is the focus selection button so small and so inaccessible?
The good news is that the auto mode in AF does a pretty good job so I rarely have to use this function
4. The SD cards accessibility
Not a big deal but I use a hand strap and I find the SD card on the back to be less accessible than the K-3 (card nr1 which is the one I use the most
For rest, I love my camera and wouldn't exchange it at any price for any other big brand camera!

Thanks Adam. Always the quickest! That is very useful. I also read recently about the Laowa 15mm f/4. But the absence of aperture control from the camera bothers me a bit (I don't mind manual focus with my typical use) ---------- Post added 03-07-16 at 08:34 AM ----------
Thanks mate ---------- Post added 03-07-16 at 08:35 AM ----------
Thanks. I'll definitely have a look at this Tamron lens

It will certainly help with the diffraction but because you have a better DOF with APS-C at equivalent aperture, I am not sure there is a real benefit to it

Hello Pentaxians,
that's it! I have ordered my K-1 and am pretty excited. As a landscape photographer mostly (check my Website Landscape and Travel Photography by Cyril Deretz ARPS, you will find that this is my main focus), I use wide angle lenses a lot generally with filters (multistop, pola, grad). I currently have the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 but it doesn't have any filter thread. The widest I will be able to go with a filter will be 24mm with my Sigma 24-70.
I have been looking at the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 Distagon, but they have discontinued the Pentax mount version and it is nowhere to be found on the secondary market.
Any suggestion of a sharp lens (that could accommodate the 36mp of the K-1) I should invest in?
Thank you for your help!
:)

Really cool. I like the tilt screen, in-built GPS and wifi. I wonder if it would be weather sealed as the two card slots seem to be open.. That would be quite a disappointment to me ---------- Post added 10-24-15 at 01:37 PM ----------
I saw the prototype and it wasn't actually that much bigger than my K-3

hello Pentaxians,
I just wanted to let you know that I contacted Zeiss in Germany as I was considering the Distagon 18mm f/4 as a superwide prime in anticipation of the purchase of the FF body. Here is their answer. It is quite a corporate/vague answer but it means they are not completely closed to the idea I think:
"Dear Cyril,
Thanks for your inquiry.
Depending on the demand for new high-end full frame DSLR lenses with Pentax K-mount, we will consider this for the future.
For further details, please do not hesitate to contact us!
With best regards
Bertram Hönlinger

Ihre Anfrage (Absender: cderetz@gmail.com) vom 24.09.2015:
I am a Pentax owner and will probably invest into the new FF body (being anounced beg of October). I don't think they will anounce any super wide angle lens and I would be extremely interested by your Distagon T* 3,5/18 for Landscape Photography as it can hold front lens filters, it is a prime lense (so very sharp) and suitable for FF bodies. Pentax won't probably be producing such a lens before some time. In the past you used to have Pentax mounts but it seems you have stopped producing them. How likely would it be that with the upcoming FF you might start having K mounts again?

Yes. It is now supposed to be a CIPA rated 4.5 stops now instead of 3.5. I haven't seen any test yet ---------- Post added 07-05-15 at 11:54 PM ----------
I have the GPS unit but I always forget to carry batteries and they tend to run empty quickly. I tend to forget to put it as well, which can be frustrating when I go in remote places, as I like to geotag to remember the exact location of my pictures
