I've had my K-5 for 10 years now, bought it used then for 200$ because the lightmeter doesn't work. Boy is that the best photographic "investment" I made! Still works perfectly and outperforms, imo, my newer K-70 in low light.
This is a Photoshop mean stack of five exposures (1/60s f/16 to 1/4 s f/5.6). The lens was also good investment I made for the 2017 eclipse, an old A400/5.6.

I used to think the astrotracer menu on the K-5 was really not user friendly compared to my K-50 but for blended shot like this one where I take a "traced" and an "untraced" image switching between the two modes is actually easier on the K-5.
The old Lorne School in Alexandria Ontario is brightly lit by light pollution from Montreal 80 km away.

Shot with the old A400/5.6, a very sharp lens.

Went to the highest point in Montreal to get a clear horizon for the rising sun with the moon already eclipsing some of it.
All done with very old Pentax material that can still deliver! No solar filter. |

Well this was my first time shooting underwater and I should have looked ahead a bit more I suppose. I didn't expect the red channel to disappear like that! And I used a Ricoh WG-70 belonging to my daughter so I was not familiar with the settings and saw afterward that there is a underwater wb after all (I guess it figures for such a camera). To add to the difficulty I use PSE 2020, not the full PS, and the Ricoh only shoots jpg. In the first image, the histogram still shows a weak, bell shaped signal in the red channel so I managed to do something with "Levels". But on the second image the histogram shows the red channel as a thin line on the 0 mark, so nothing at all to work with in Levels.
I managed to "recreate" a red signal by applying a deep red photo filter (Layer --> New Adjustment Layer --> Photo Filter). It's quick but not looking so good. So:
1- Does anybody know a way to improve my images
2- Next time I go, will in camera underwater wb will help if there is no red at all? |

The Rokinon 135mm F2 is an amazing lens for astrophotography. On aps-c i use it wide opened at f/2.0. This was shot with my old K-5 on a Star Adventurer 2i. I stacked 20 frames of 2 min exposure iso 400 in Sequator. Edited in DxO Photo Lab 5, StarnetV2 and PSE 2020. |

Recently got a Star Adventurer tracking mount for astrophotography and tested it using my old A400/5.6 @ f/7.1 on M8 and M20 in the constellation Sagittarius. First time I try this lens for this kind of photo and although it's not the best lens out there due to considerable CA and slow speed, it did a more than than ok job on this target. My K-5 was used for this image. |

Went for a walk after lunch today and the sky had gone all weird. Decided to take the K-70 out with the Sammy 16. |

I was out camping this weekend so I had minimal equipment with me, which means I didn't have my big and expensive Sigma Art 35/1.4. But the small DA35/2.4 is always there to save the day.

Clouds were coming in fast so I only had time to make a quick run up a trail to a rocky outcrop looking out on the St.Lawrence river where Jupiter and Saturn imposed themselves as the subject of my picture. A blend of two 60 s shot iso 1600 with K-70 using the Samyang 16mm F2 @ f/2.0. |

Rouge Valley is a place forgotten by time. Only small farms here. Some owners are getting old and some farms don't look quite as active as they used to be. The Rouge river left lots of sand deposits in between two laurentians rocky outcrops so farms are isolated from the more dynamic laurentians lowlands further east. I took the picture from the ground of a buddhist temple, hence the statues in the front. |

A few shots from last weekend when a forest fire got put out by a CL-415. It was quite impressive as the plane flew so close to our position, I can see the pilot waving back at my kids in one ot the shots I took!
Really happy with how the 50-135 still performs after years of abuse. |

The 16-50 is not my favorite lens for astrophotography but when closed down a bit it does the trick. I merge two 60 s exposures, one static for the foreground the other using astrotracer to follow the stars. The two brightest stars were "spiked" with StarSpikes Pro 4. |

Thanks! I was very lucky that the cloulds weren't lower!
Thanks!
Thanks! I had to put the alarm at 3 so I could be there at 4 before the crowd stormed in!
Merci! Good idea! especially now that it's so drab!
Thanks! That's always a surprise depending on sky conditions, glad you like it!

Beautiful! I went up there after seeing the eclipse in Nebraska in 2017 and I remember thinking that my K-5 had broken because I could barely see the MW on a 60s astrotracer shot at iso 400 and f/2! That was just the sky being a thousand times darker than my Montreal area locations!
