I'm roughly in the same situation as you are in trying to get a GR IV. I believe it's best to secure your living expenses first and then go after the camera. Not very easy when you see the camera going for a very small amount (250 - 350 CAD).

I'm personally hoping for a slightly lower megapixel count. I believe 8 to 10 megapixels should suffice.

You do have a point there daleeper. The reason I posted it wasn't only to solicit information but to also help out other members find good auctions that they could probably win. I believe that when any of us wins, the entire community wins as well. Update: Looks like I'll have to wait until I have enough to spend on the Q with the lens that I want.

The Q has the feature to turn interval shots into a movie in camera. One downside is that you have to put the camera in movie mode and shoot at 1080P maximum. The second downside is you are at the whim of the camera so if you wanted to have effects such as panning and zooming around, you can't.

Thank you very much for the advice barondla. I was hoping that I could find (or with time, build) a lens that surpasses it. I'll keep an eye on the auction that includes a 01 and 02 lenses and hope that the price doesn't go any higher and that the last bidder hasn't set a max bid beyond my budget. Hopefully, the price of the 01 lens is reduced later this year.

That's an excellent price to pay for that kit. I'm looking forward to the pictures that you'll take with it.

Now I'm really hoping that I'm outbid on the other auction that featured just the 02 lens.

Thank you for the suggestion and I've considered that as well; but for me, having the camera on me all the time (in my pocket usually) is a must. Otherwise, I just have my Xperia Ray and that doesn't fare well at night.

Thank you very much for that bit of advice pickone and hnikesch. I'll put in a bid on one of the last two and see what happens.

I did actually find a kit with the 01 and 02 lenses. I hope it doen't go up too much from the current price. Pentax Q 12 4 MP Digital Camera Black KIT W 8 5mm AND 5 15mm Lenses 027075207790 | eBay
The reason I wished to get the Q for as low a price as possible was just for the body itself. I would then build up my lens collection over time with better (faster or farther reaching) lenses. I like the 01 lens a lot but would prefer something faster, with a similar focal length for low light shooting which I believe will make up much of my pictures.
That said, I may end up bidding on this. Man, this is going to get addicting.

The most versatile camera that you'll always have with you: Pentax Q
This ad would feature pictures of the Q in many setups such as for street photography, wildlife photography, astrophotography, and even videography. Q(ueen) of mirrorless cameras: Pentax Q
This ad would feature other cameras bowing down or standing at attention as the Q slides past The Q(ueen) to your K(ing): Pentax Q and Pentax Q-K adapter
This ad would feature the Q with a Q-K adapter and a K-mount camera with the different lenses being attached and settings applied before capturing the perfect shot. Checkmate: Pentax Q
This would feature a picture of a large chessboard with only a king (other brand or K-01?), a Q and the lenses (rooks, knights, bishops, or pawns), needed for the checkmate.

These photos are beautiful. They show that the Q is much more than many "reviewers" have made it out to be. I especially like your shots with the 03 lens jezza323.
I'll be sure to share mine when I finally get the Q and start shooting with it.

Hello everyone,
I'm actually quite new to much of this. I've always enjoyed photography and videography, but could never afford the right equipment for my needs. I usually buy into technologies that I know will enrich my current lifestyle. Since I usually can't afford to pay too much for what I get, I ususally go for high-quality devices that can perform multiple roles and perform them well enough. I then learn as much as I can about the technology and tweak the device to achieve the best performance in any condition.
This is why I'll be getting a Q and not the Q10. Just waiting to get the body (and a lens?) at the right price before pursuing the lens I want. With the research, tweaking and practice that I'll be putting in, I'll be sure to have something to share with the community that taught me so much (I hope).
I prefer open source software for work and play and hope that darktable (darktable | the photo workflow software) or one of the other four programs that I found for handling RAW files fits to bill over Lightroom (which I have never used).
I do hope to get to know many of you and meet some of you in the real world.
