I was thinking about HD Pentax-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR as a walk-around lens.
How it would be to compare with Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC MACRO in terms of image quality?
Thanks! |

Well, I just followed the guideline: Quote: Official Rules for PentaxForums.com Monthly Photo Contests
Please follow these guidelines when submitting entries for our monthly photo contests. Quote:
... The photo dimensions must be between 300x300 and 1400x1200 pixels

Thank you, Adam. It works now.
But why the pic has been reduced to 130 KB (original - 1.09 Mb).
According to the Contest Rules, photo must be no larger than 1.5Mb in filesize. Thus, 1.09 Mb file should be accepted without problem, shouldn't it?

Trying to upload an image to the contest as an attachment to my post. The picture as .jpg is 1400x927, 1.09 MB (as the attachment getting reduced to 130 KB).
And keep getting this: The following errors occurred with your submission:
1. The text that you have entered is too long (1528538 characters). Please shorten it to 100000 characters long.
However, the text I had entered was: Taken on Independence Day in LA.
What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!
One more question: are panoramic pictures (stitched several photos) acceptable, or just a single one is valid?

Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts!
Why should one connect an external recorder to the camera at all, if the camera screws it up anyway?
Isn't it the best way to make a quality sound track with a recorder, and synchronize it with a video later?

Tascam DR-40 is for $99.99 after rebate at B&H now (offer ends on Dec, 31, 2014).
By the way, Olympus LS-14 has the Microphone Input - 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack, 2kΩ impedance. Is this not the same that you described for Zoom and Taskam? Since that, they are all in the same league, aren't they?

Wow! Very useful info. Thanks folks!
As for me all of them (Olympus LS-14, Zoom H4n, Tascam DR-40) look pretty the same with little differences. Yeah, Zoom and Tascam look more advanced, more extendable/flexible, but Olympus already has built-in Omni microphone. Price is the same for all - $199 at BH. Couldn't find in Olypmpus description whether it had Preamp, though.
I didn't get how this kind of recorder has to be connected to still camera. Is "take the headphone out and put it into the camera" the only way here? Does it work as preamp in this configuration?
Thank you!

Do you mean an external recorder like Zoom H4n, or Tascam DR40?

Thank you guys for your inputs!
Have to learn it all before a final decision.
I need it mostly for ambient sound records.

There's always a danger that it could be lubricant splatters. Then, a dry cleaning will make the sensor even dirtier.
Another question:
When we refer to "sensor" cleaning or swabbing, we actually talk about AA filters (anti-aliasing or low pass)
that will be brushed or/and wiped with a swab, and not the actual CCD or CMOS.
Some of the recent cameras, like Pentax K-5 IIS, lack these filters.
Does it mean that dust and lubricant splatters will go directly onto sensor?
How to clean it in this case?
