Also hilarious. ---------- Post added 04-20-19 at 03:15 PM ----------
And frankly, quite absurd.

Hope this turns out ok. Panorama, multiple photos stitched together. Risshakuji (Yamadera) temple, Yamagata prefecture, Japan. For those curious about the wooden structures on the opposite cliff-face, I’ve also uploaded a photo of one taken with the DA*300. |

Current tripod won’t be a problem. It’s a Berlebach Report 3036. Massive heavy wooden thing. Stable as anything. I will be getting a monopod and gimbal setup though for more practical field application ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 03:28 PM ---------- Oh, and as far as CA goes, that’s nothing. It’s on a tree several kilometers away that I can hardly see with the naked eye, and it’s cropped from the edge of the image. I won’t ever be applying this lens in such an extreme manner for my proper photos. I was just trying to find its limits... and I’ve got to say I’m absolutely blown away.

A bird in the tree in the next yard? ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:18 PM ---------- Uncropped, exported straight to jpeg from RAW file ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:19 PM ---------- Cropped, hastily processed in LR. ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:20 PM ---------- Cropped to pixelation, nil noise reduction applied. ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:23 PM ---------- Mountain in distance, iphone photo for reference. ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:25 PM ---------- f/9 1/640 800 iso. RAW to jpeg, nil processing in LR. ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:26 PM ---------- Quickly fiddled with a few sliders in LR, including dehaze (it’s frikken hot and humid here). ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:28 PM ---------- Cropped to the bare tree in the right of frame. Very slight CA, but I’m basically shooting into glare ffs. Really impressed. ---------- Post added 03-26-19 at 02:29 PM ---------- Cropped to the tree more in the centre. Less CA. Still no noise reduction applied. Handshake evident. I didn’t use remote shutter. |

Well, fingers crossed I’ve made the right choice, because I bought a FA*600 that I found on ebay not long after making this post.
Will update with outcome, and if there’s no dramas, expect plenty of sample pics! There’s no way I’d keep the results to myself after spending so much money on a lens. It’s to be used and enjoyed imo!

Agreed, as my DA*300 has been amazing for wildlife shooting so far, but there’s some things that are just always a bit too far away... it would be nice to not have to rely on cropping quite as much too.

I feel like I’m in this boat. About a year ago my K30 developed aperture block failure, and I almost jumped because of that reason. It’s only the amazing quality and value of the K1 that truly stopped me, plus the prospect that Pentax might make more lenses in the future.
I do anticipate though, if I’m not able to find a good long lens for wildlife shooting on the K mount, that I may consider jumping ship in the future.
With some smart marketing, I reckon Pentax could draw a few new users to their system with a really sexy super telephoto. They already have an amazing lens lineup in other areas. I would hate to have to give up my 100mm macro WR, as an example.

I would buy a FA*600 if it was available. I’m considering buying a used one. I’d probably prefer something closer to the 500 range, but my god the FA*600 is a beautiful lens

I'm sorry if this topic has been covered before, but I couldn't find anything in relation to it. This lens seems to have been recently discontinued, which is extremely frustrating, as it seems to be one of the main viable long lenses available to the K-mount.
Is it actually discontinued, and if so, why? Is there a new one coming? Are there any new super-telephotos coming for the K-mount? My wallet needs to know if it's gonna live or not.
Thanks in advance! ---------- Post added 03-17-19 at 04:14 PM ---------- Oh, must also clarify, I'm only interested in primes!
