It's over two years since I've posted but now that a new line is coming out I have to say that I am waiting for the K-7 upgrade...Maybe...I have a K10D and it is my go to camera over my Nikon D200..Now that here is an upgrade coming I am holding off on my next purchase. I love the K10D and with the Sigma 24-135 f/2.8 lens it is the best combo around. If the K-7 enhancements aren't that outstanding I will upgrade to the K20D. It fits my needs. But I hold all the anticipation that all of you have....Go get im Pentax

K10D at 6 months - ISO and Kelvin matters

Thanks for the repsonse regarding high kelvin temps. I shoot the Pentax using DNG format. The temps usually range from 6900 to 7250. At this point, I don't think there is anything I can do to change it. My D200 range in NEF is from 4900 to 5500 K. I believe it is just the way that the processor interprets and processes the image. The Pentax colors are good and vivid. I was just curious as to why and if anyone else noticed or knew why this happened. I'm just going to shoot and enjoy my K10D.
Thanks for the response

Thanks for the reply. Maybe we can get an answer from somebody. I've found I can bring the K temp down to about 5900 and still get good colors(colours).
Still looking for an answer

Pentaxperson

I picked up a Sears 35-135 lens off of ebay for 20 USD and it happens to be one of the best lenes I have in that range. It was a Ricoh/pentax mount and after taking out the pin that was for the ricoh mount it worked flawlessly on the ist DL and now the K10 D. Some of the Sears lenses are great if you research them thoroughly

Manual Lens HELP

Before you mount the lens on the camera check for a contact pin on the lens mount. This pin is for ricoh cameras and will jam the lens on pentax cameras.
you may damage the contacts on your camera if the lens get stuck. Take a small screwdriver and lift the mounting plate off the lens and remove the pin. There is probably a small diode behind the pin. replace the mounting plate and you should be good to go. Go to steve's forums and there are threads there explaining the whole procedure.

K10D Build qualit VS ...

I have the D200 and K10d plus the ist*DL ,Spotmatic and K1000, Oly E10 and nikon F4 out of all of them I grab the Pentax first. So you might as well say it's my primary system. Why. Ease of use. The D200 is well built no arguement there but for feeling comfortable it's the Pentax. Both are exceptional cameras but I prefer the Pentax. Besides I just bought a new lens for both cameras. I don't one getting jealous of the other.

Feel free to brow beat me on this one. But to me it comes down to culture. We here in the states look up to the "healthy girl next door " image. The European culture have a different slant on what we could call a cosmopolitan look. I think the model on the left Ben has posted is a stunning woman and the one on the(same girl, different look) right does not fit into what we here think as beautiful. But she fits into the culture of the European cosmopolitan look. It's about what sells guys. Just my 2 cents, Keep the change

A professionals way of choosing a lens

There is a very good friend of mine that has just retired from professional photograpy. He was in business for over 50 years doing all forms of shooting. Here is how he would choose a lense. He would go to his store (Lens and repro in NYC) and buy six 6 lenses, Same brand focal length and speed. He would then go back to his studio and proceed to test all of them. Then he would choose the best one for sharpness and return the rest. His theory is this, ALL LENSES ARE NOT EQUAL. Even zeiss lenses would have differences in them. Even though the lens design is the same all lenses for the most part are not. The engineers would design them but not make them. In design they would be optimim but in constuction there would be some variance in one lens in the lens that would make a slight difference in some way.
This makes sense. To me that is why one person has a tack sharp lens and someone else with the same lens doesn't. In today's manufacturing process there is more control in testing but test results of that lens or any lense is given a + or - tolerance factor.
do you think for one moment that a major lense manufacture would pull any lens off the shelf and send it to a magazine for testing and not worry about the results. they pick the best one that tested the best and send those lenses.
they want to sell lenses not get crappy reviews, although sometimes I wonder.

Made a lot of sense to me, I just thought I would pass that on since there was so much discussion on lense sharpness ,contrast, etc. . I will not get mad or insulted if you disagree, but the same to you fella.
Happy shooting, keep the shutter actuations high.

K10D, Shake Reduction & Tripod

Old school was basically anything 1/60th or faster at hand held you wre ok.Naturally keeping the camera as stable as possible. But if your shooting from a tripod, turn it off. Using telephoto lense turn it on,because shake is more noticable. if your shooting with a delay, your basically shooting from a stable base,ie, tripod turn it off . My hands shake continually,so I usually turn it off for high speed shooting.I turn it on when I get to the lower speeds but that depends on how bad my hands are shaking at that given time. But the beauty of Pentax is that all lenses have SR. by the replies it's six of one half dozen for the other.
Happy Shooting

When your camera is stable i.e. ,on a tripod, there is no need for shake reduction. The servos on the SR constantly look for movement in the camera. Therefore even when the camera is steady the servos are working. Thus causing some movement in the camera itself. Anything above 1/60th should not,IMO, have the shake reduction on. Just my 2 cents. Keep the change.
