Still looking for the video and came across this thread in Pentax SLR Talk Forum: DP Review 'K-3 Mark III "PENTAX" SD Card folder' started by Kobie 4 months ago.
No answers to what is the purpose of the "PENTAX" folder, just opinions and speculation. AI gets a mention and it might be this thread that sowed that possible area in my mind. Whatever, this seems to be another feature of the K3-III that is still not fully explained.

In his very helpful Article posted on May 17 2022 Kobie wrote "For better or worse, I made a video regarding the "PENTAX" folder that's in the SD cards, what some of the data contains and how it correlates to the subject recognition." Although I believe I have seen the video I am now unable to find it online. Before I next reformat the cards in my K3 III I am seeking advice on what happens to the data in the PENTAX folder. If it is deleted in the reformatting process what, in camera performance terms, is lost. If it is somehow retained, what is its value to the photographer? If nothing is lost, what is it for? If it is to provide data to Ricoh, how does it get to them? My original question referenced subject recognition and AI learning simply as examples of potential areas the data might influence.

I think it was Kobie who first alerted me to the potential value of data collected and stored in the PENTAX folder created on an SD card when it is formatted in a K3 III. My question is, when thinking of re-formatting said card for whatever reason, what would you lose in terms of subject recognition, AI learning etc when the re-formatting process deletes all data on the card and creates a new, empty PENTAX folder?

Imagine you have your new K-3 III in your hands, battery charged, 2 new, formatted cards in the slots, all ready to go for your very first shots. Which lens have you attached to the camera? Why that one? And what subjects are you hoping to photograph?
I'd like to hear what others are planning/dreaming. For me it changes daily, but I think I'm settling on the D FA* 70-200 F2.8 and some local buzzards in the late afternoon!
