Great idea and great bunch of pictures:)
Made me get out the old vivitar tx 400mm f5.6, it is really small and light for a 400mm internal focus and no tripod collar though. Not too bad if the light doesn't hit it, not multi-coated. Taken with the super and cropped a tad.

It seems to me, and I use TC's frequently, they can do some strange things to the OOF highlights and foliage when they are at a particular distance from the in focus area. Even a lens with good results with no TC can get crazy. I still usually get good results, but here are a couple with a canon 300mm and a 2x.:)

A cool morning and warm river with no wind can make some nice light at the RR bridge. With my 1dsii and a 70-200mm f2.8. :)

Here's an Egret missing a fish, though he got one a few minutes later. The fish were feeding on Mosquito larvae, and the Herons were eating fish, and the Mosquitoes were feeding on me and the birds. (so many mosquitoes, the water looked alive) (not to mention deer flies) I'm trying a flickr link, so it may not work (I'm used to zenfolio)

Here are a couple bird shots from Sat. A.M. with ye olde 1dsii :)
There was not much light, around dawn, but I kind of like the soft light. The clouds meant I had the place to myself and nobody else to spook the birds.:) |

I have it in EF mount, and think it is excellent. It has a bulbous front element like the 14-24mm, but I don't use filters anyway. |

My eyes are aging, and one big plus of a FF body is the viewfinder. I sold my pentax stuff over the last couple of years after a bad experience with pentax service. I went with canon at the time because of the telephotos, but if I wasn't into wildlife it may have been another brand. I like being able to change screens if needed, and have a split EC-b screen in my 1dsii and it helps. I'm not sure if focus screens are easily changeable on the newer bodies though. I had to trim the aperture lever from my first pentax lens for this, but it is nice to have a 50mm act like a 50mm.:) |

Canon issued a recall a while back, and now the CPSC is acting like they are doing something great to justify their existence?
At least the Orioles are having a good year for a change, well see about tonight. :)

I was glad to see one of the Osprey I was watching the last couple years return, but the mate hasn't made it to the nest yet. |

I went the used route and am very pleased with the 1dsii (cheaper too). AF is instant (with a ring af lens) and I don't care about video or shooting at super high iso. Also doubles as a weapon.:) |

Hey thorir,
I wish I could remember the seller I got mine from, but most of them look pretty similar. I am pretty sure it was $25 or $30 dollars if that helps. I really wanted to use my pentax 50mm f1.4 I had since 1984 on a full frame so I had to modify it. I don't use it a whole lot though because my eyes aren't too good for MF any more. Anyways it helps me to not miss the FA31mm I sold a while back.:) |
