Sometimes you need a wireless remote- for either the camera, studio flash or both. You can go the Pocket Wizard route and have that over sized/overpriced post modern walkie-talkie sitting on your rig - Please!

I bought a Vello Freewave remote for my set up and it's great - for the price.

Vello FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release RW-C1 B&H Photo

(Amazon sells them too but I don't see one at Adorama)

Not only does it keep it from sinking but it makes it wicked easy to find! Bought a sunglasses float and pulled off the "buoys", used a small loan yard and a zip tie. It works and was fun to make.

JJC Card Style Compact IR Remote for Pentax / Samsung Cameras (E7) #00075771
Is this the one? I see it advertised for $5.99. I suppose that it can be made waterproof by placing it in a ziplock bag.

Half way through the diss-assembly the remote decided to work again. Perhaps the battery was out of place. I would however like to know there's new fresh (relatively) battery in there.
The way you can tell if in fact a remote control is working even without it's paired device is to press the button and aim it at your video or live view camera - the digital sensor can see the infra and near infrared - you will see it flashing! In so far as getting it wet. It's nice to have devices that you don't have to worry about when you are outdoors. I love to set up my WG3 with a little grip-pod to take group photos even when it's raining. Doesn't everything get wet sooner or later in India anyway?

I never owned either of the W cameras but owned a 90WR (film) camera yeas ago. I used it regularly to pound loose nails back into our leaky rowboat when not taking photos. I do like my WG3 (all black, no Barbie purple or GI Joe orange for me, thank you) very much despite it's carbon dog-bone appearance; At least it doesn't resemble a tub toy as some others do. Its taken a fair amount of abuse and misuse. One would think however, that in this day of warnings about everything plastered on every item sold there would be something on these cameras saying they aren't buoyant. It would be nice to see a rugged compact APS-C sensor type with RAW capabilities from Pentax.

Bias for the sky is absolutely correct. Just like shooting color transparency film; expose for the highlights. If highlights are blown out in JPEG compression, you're done. Only if you're shooting in RAW capture do you have the opportunity to more or less "split the difference" and make essentially two or three "exposures" in our final output. Such as an HDR procedure.

Will have to either find a decent Persian restaurant in the Boston area that serves it or be brave and try to make it myself!

Around here there are two breeds of cameras most commonly seen out of captivity; Canons and Nikons with the occasional Olympus or Sony thrown in for good measure. It seems this is what is sold most often in the big box stores or foisted upon us by camera store know-it-all's as being the brands to choose. Back in the days of film (some of you may remember that time; It was shortly after the last of great glaciers receded) we would refer to photographers and labs who would only buy and use one brand of film and paper (It came in yellow box, the name escapes me somehow) as
"K---k Weenies". I would like to see Pentax give these self-assured types a good challenge.

I don't want you to kill off your insect subject matter. Just that it takes a bit of effort to cultivate and keep roses alive and well to see them decimated by invaders.

It is a fun camera - even more so when you fish it out of a cooler full of ice, soda and beer; to see the expression on everyone's faces!

Insecticidal soap, nothing that's really toxic to other forms of life, should rid you of that problem! Otherwise, very nice. Wish they had a decent tilt-shift lens.

I have recently purchased a WG-3 camera and am very impressed by it’s capabilities. Since I am a professional photographer and own some very bulky and expensive equipment, I thought this camera would be perfect for the many outdoor activities I enjoy.

I was equally surprised to find out however how few people know about this camera. I take every opportunity to show it off especially to my friends who are outdoor sports enthusiasts. Their reaction is almost always the same: “this is cool, -I didn’t even know they made this – where can I get one – I’ve never seen this in stores – does Pentax still make cameras?” After researching Pentax products further I feel that the entire line of very capable cameras is very much under-represented in the marketplace, especially in New England and the US in general.
