A break from the chaos of torrential summer storm. We've had more rainfall around these parts since the first day of summer than April and May combined and some of the storms quite spectacular.
The good thing is is that they provide some incredible scenes such as this :)

Thanks so much for the encouragement, Koz!
I only wish that I can afford such a piece of glass. The images you mentioned were all shot with a lowly Tamron 17-50 and with my old K10 except for Amsterdam Bay which I believe was with the same lens but with the K20.
If someday I get a better grasp of this photography thing and actually make a few dollars because of it, I have a very specific list of Pentax and Sigma glass I will definitely be purchasing ;)

A collection of Black & White images based around water. I don't believe that any of these are actually true greyscale for I prefer a warmer feel to my monotone creations.

Tim, being as that lens is pretty fast at 2.8, all it needs is a steady hand.
One thing you may wish to do is shoot in Limit mode for Macro. There is a Limit/Full switch on the upper left of the lens. When the focus limiter knob is set to "LIMIT", the camera can be autofocused with greater
speed within that range.
For Macro (0.29m to approx. 0.4m), set the distance scale to a point between 0.29m and 0.4m, and then set the focus limiter knob to "LIMIT".
For normal photos (0.45m to infinity), set the distance scale to a point between 0.45m and infinity, and then set the focus limiter knob to "LIMIT".
This will keep the lens focus traveling too far, making it rather frustrating when trying to focus on something very close and it wanting to focus on something further away.
I hope this helps you in 'getting used to it' because, for the price, it really is quite a remarkable piece of glass :)

Busted out the old Tamron 90mm Macro for the first time since someone knocked over my tripod last year.
The lens went face down breaking the bayonet off completely but luckily, as far as I can tell, that's the only damage.
She ain't the prettiest anymore but still a reliable lens :) |

My affair with Pentax started in 2005 when a good friend gave me her old beat up Optio 550 digicam and encouraged my to start shooting again after a disastrous bout with a Canon Rebel a few years before.
I then moved up the dSLR line starting with the *ist DL, the K10, K20 and now the K5.
Can't wait to eventually move up to the 645 :) |

Great series! That Sigma and KK5 combo looks like it can bring Pentax into the wildlife mainstream with images like this!
