OK, thanks bertwert! Since I use it on "A", I aligned the dot to the "A" and tightened them down. Now I understand...

I have a smc pentax-a 400 5.6 I purchased a while back. The lens seems to work fine but my question is, what is function the small ring with a red dot on a narrow ring between the aperture ring and the camera body? It just seems to spin completely around, on or off the body and the aperture is locked to "A". Can't figure out its purpose.
Thanks

sqrrl, Thanks for the input. I purchased an 3 pole adapter and the KP works fine. Now I wish I had purchased a cable with a 2.5 male on one end and a 3.5 male on the other so the connector doesn't stick out so far. I've yet to warm up to the smart phone app which would do what I wanted, but the wireless cable release is much simpler ...

I have a K30 and a Vello wireless remote shutter (RCC-C1). I now have a new KP and thought it would work but the RCC-C1 has a sub mini plug and the KP has a mini plug.
Does anyone know if using a sub mini to mini adapter might work?
Thanks

I have a k30 body and am considering the Pentax HD Pentax DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR Lens. However you do not list the k30 as compatible. What limitations would result from this combination |

Thanks Jack. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I downloaded Black and White Drama, IR_Conversion, and Virado plata - silver. I'd like to concentrate on B&W. I had SilverEffects PRO and PSE 9 on Windows but now I'm a Linux Mint convert. I use GIMP some and like RawTherpee, but darktable seems to be what I really like, just need to learn how to take full advantage of its features. Here's a photo using the IR_conversion. Original color using polarizing filter.

Does anyone have a work flow to recreate Digital Filter monochrome - info (parameter adj) - filter effect - IR in a third party editor such as darktable or RawTherapee? I have a K30 and run Linux Mint18.

Thanks, Adam but does this work from the rear of the k-30? I don't see an IR sensor/receiver on the back.

Hello. I bought a k-30 with DA 18-55 WR about two weeks ago. I plan on adding the DA 55-300 in the near future based on reviews here. This was an upgrade from my first dslr, an Oly e520 with the two 14-42 and 40-150 lenses. So far I'm quite pleased with the image quality and camera function when compared to others costing more $,$$$. Also felt free to chose brands since I don't have legacy lenses, since I felt 'abondoned' by Olympus for essentially discontinuing the dslr lineup. The DNG raw format was another selling point since I wouldn't have to upgrade PSE 9 to get Camera Raw to work with say the Nikon 7100. Anyway my first question is about shutter remotes. I had a Pixel cable release for the Oly, which went with the sold camera, that worked OK for my occasional use. One thing that comes to mind is, after getting the 55-300, is to set up a tripod for hummingbird photo. I'd like a remote that works from behind the camera (without tin foil, bike mirrors, etc.;)). I see they make RF type setups that attach to hot shoe and plug into CR terminal. Of course a $5 Pixel may work just fine if the RF alternative is $$$. But I've also had some trouble just figuring out which ones work with the k-30. Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
