I really doubt a new rebadged 100mm macro. THe Pentax 100mm is an extremely good lens.

If the DFA*85 is better than the FA*85 then it will be one of the best lenses ever. Even with the new DFA*85 in play, the FA*85 will still be a very acceptable lens.

Suggestions from me are
Pentax FA 85mm 1.4
Pentax FA 77mm 1.8
Pentax K 85mm f1.8
Pentax DFA 100mm f2.8
Tamron 90mm f2.8
Pentax K 105mm f2.8
Pentax F 135mm f2.8 would be awesome but I am unsure if it will frame as you wish. Perhaps test with a zoom to get the right focal length???

Agreed Mike. I remained mute on the lens I used for my photo. Truly, the only features of the lens I used that aided the pop was its close focusing ability and the absence of lens abberations. Most modern lenses can do these two things well at f11. And so, it is incumbent on the photographer to frame the image in a way that delivers the desired effect. ---------- Post added 10-02-19 at 12:39 PM ----------
Des, in this photo, I feel composition is also evident. You have used negative space as one of four distinct layers (1. sharp in focus object; 2. slightly less sharp and slighty out of focus leaf; 3. less sharp and out of focus leaf; 4. Negative space). Also, the change in leaf size between 2 and 3 gives a sense of scale.
Good one!

You can even achieve the 3D pop with only minor out of focus blur. Compositional arrangement helps too.

Is the reason for it being jammed related to the distance contact brushes dislodging then jamming? If so then a disassemble, remove offending part and replace. Shouldn't be a hard job and parts should be available. Send to an authorised dealer?

Vision and perception is definitely a variable thing. My job (career) centres on my ability to see things very well (one of my roles is to find things like a needle in a haystack). In performing this role I note variance in my colleagues aptitude (we call it observer bias). It is amazing the kinds of arguments that arise from this bias (I put these differences down to two things: inherent vision ability and learned/ cognitive processing of this input). Colour is simply a component of vision and we know this aspect of vision varies across the human race (e.g. colour blindness). In fact one of my colleagues is partially colour blind and when asked to find a certain orchid (red and green in colour), the person told me that he used differences in tone to find it (amazing skill / adaptation).
The purplish cast could be more evident because the other lenses exposed a little better (here I am trying to say that the f2 lenses seemed to grab the scene a little better from a light perspective). If I used some exposure compensation then I might get equivalence between the K28/3.5 and other lenses. This might lessen the purplish cast. Hmmm, food for thought.

If you are shooting night skies then you will need a faster lens and possibly wider than 28mm. You might do better with the K24mm f2.8 if funds are tight.
I have a few copies of the K28/3.5 - I can test these and see if there is a trend or if it is my personal copy. ---------- Post added 03-02-19 at 09:12 PM ----------
Ok, not night skies, Paramotor is a flying gadget. Sounds like fun.

The K28/3.5 saturates very well and generally better than most other lenses. The purplish cast is a classic Pentax signature. Many of Pentax lenses give this purplish cast - it is just a Pentax thing. You can dial down the amount of this in two ways - in camera modifications to the jpg settings or post processing.
Regarding the K30/2.8 - a task for tomorrow afternoon. Just got back from an outing and now settling in for the evening :)

Spot on! The K28/2 has almost no fringing. The K28/3.5 has a little and also has a noticeable pentax 'purplish cast'. The A and M 28/2 do exhibit more fringing - definitely, the M being worse than the A. This is why I feel the M28/2 is not as good as the K28/3.5 despite its bokeh benefit wide open and is why I rate the A28/2 a notch above the K28/3.5. Of course, the K28/2 is in a class of its own (and paying the price for one is indeed necessary). ---------- Post added 03-02-19 at 08:47 AM ----------
I can go back to the same spot if you like and check the result of the K30/2.8. Many say the K30/2.8 is the poor mans FA31/1.8. I feel that is a fair label too (and I have read somewhere in unsubstantiated chit chat that the K30/2.8 was the precursor to the FA31/1.8).

That probably depends on your entry price :)
Generally speaking I find the K series better than most compares from other series. Are they going to remain 'valued' I do not know, but for now they are still sought after. You got a good deal with that K35! I got a K35/2 for $30 the other day. So the bargains are still out there. ---------- Post added 02-02-19 at 04:44 PM ----------
I'll go for a quick shoot

Thanks for the link to methodology - will check it out. Knowing the meaning behind the results through the method is paramount.
It is fair to say that every lens will be playing to a certain strength. The K 28 f2 does certain things extremely well (e.g. close focusing and 3D effect) and other things well (e.g. landscape). The light fall off is almost completely gone by f3.5 so this 'con' is limited to its f stop difference.
The K 28 f3.5 cannot do close focusing and 3D effect any where near as good as the K28 f2, but, it does do landscape very well (and is either on par or better than the K28 f2). All round the K28 f2 is a much better lens but is very expensive. If landscape is your thing then perhaps you would easily recommend the K28 f3.5 over the f2 sibling (price!).
Back to the OP, this discussion is probably a little superfluous (as price is an important factor). But on the other hand, knowing what your expectations are and what the lens is likely to deliver is exactly the point (i.e. why buy a lens because it is cheaper but it doesn't do what you want).
I recently obtained the M28/2 and am just starting to test it. Generally, the M lenses do not satisfy me and leave me wanting more. I do expect this lens to not be as good as the A28/2 and early results suggest this. I will take a few shots and add to this thread if that helps.

Wow, and sorry to be confronting, but those numbers are very misleading. First, 'average resolution' - what does that mean? Average result across all apertures? So, the result for the K28 f2 shot wide open has no compare with the K28 f3.5 yet its results is added to the average calculation? Not well standardised if this is the case. Also, the K28 f2 is BEST at f16 (yes, f16). Its optical design is all about close focusing and massive depth of field.
Be careful with these numbers is all I can say.

Controversially I'm going to say that the best Pentax 28mm lenses in order of merit are:
K28/2
A28/2
K28/3.5
M28/2
F28/2.8
There really isn't much separating the last three on that list - not much at all. If you can get the F28/2.8 for a really good price I would go for it (AF, size) otherwise go for the K (it is bigger heavier, not AF and not electrical contacts). The M28/2 is better than the Kiron.
