This is a photo I took with 18.33s exposure. It's the country sky in South Australia looking East. The moon was rising, some light cloud.

I was playing with my camera one night and captured the moon rising at early dusk.

Some mild post processing (colour enhancement) only.

Hey Leadfoot, I have to say this is an amazing piece of work! I love it. I just got into playing with my K30 time lapse function for my son's school project - and in searching on how to do it, this page came up! Wow - this has blown me away. You inspire me! Thanks so much for sharing!!

Achiever TZ250 and Pentax K30

HI Pentax Gurus!

Just wondering if it is possible to use an Achiever tz250 flash with my Pentax K30 camera? I've read a couple of posts suggesting it should work (in a basic mode) but I can't get mine to fire when i take a photo. The flash will fire when I press the "test" button on the flash unit itself but that is about it

Yes it is a real old flash, but i was giving it a go because i found it sitting in my old pile of "stuff" i had laying around.

Hope it will work - if you have managed to get it going can you let me know how you did it and if there are any particular settings I need to change to make it happen!

Thanks.
F.

Abstract Luna Eclipse - Blood Moon

Hi,

just posting a couple of photos of the luna eclipse from tonight. I took most of the photos using a 1.3 - 2 sec exposure.

I used my OLD Tamron SP500mm lens with a K30.

Photos are nothing special, but thought I'd share them just for the look.... (sorry, not sure how to get thumnails out of dropbox yet....)

Abstract Thoughts appreciated - low light and composition....

Hey thanks! Yes, when I compare the B&W to the colour, I actually agree that the B&W is much more striking. So what I'll do tonight is use my original file and play around with it. I will try the crop as you have done and run it through a filter. I have GIMP on my Mac, which has some great features.

Thanks to you and severalsnakes for the suggestions.

Hey Hinman, thank you for taking the time to show me! I have compared the two photos. Your quick mods changes the composition of the photo. I see that you have softened the photo a little as well. The high ISO did make it look grainy. In fact, at the time, I was testing the effects of taking photos with no flash and increasing ISO. This was kind of a lucky snap. So I realise now that lower ISO would be better in some instances.

I can also see that cropping has changed the focus.

Ok, thanks for all the feedback and the links. I'll do some more reading and practicing! It's a whole new world....

Hi hinman, yes, feel free to experiment. Is the one I have posted sufficient quality to enable you to play around with it?

Hi i was probably 1/2 m away (a couple of feet). I didn't do any processing. Just took the photo using the standard sigma lens that came with the camera.

No crop.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. That's much appreciated.

as a matter of interest, what type of lens would be more appropriate for these types of shots?

Also, are you saying that if the plane was in focus (and his right eye), then the image would be stronger? Would using a different lens keep the background out of focus and the face/plane in focus? I used the standard lens in macro mode.

I will do some more reading.

Hi,

was playing with the camera tonight. We've had it for a while, but I have never sat down to get the settings right. Flash photos never came out good. In fact, I took some at a function today and had to delete most of them as they were terrible (and embarrassing....). So it was "play with the camera time..."

Tonight we were experimenting with low light, flash, and no flash photos - different ISO settings, etc.

My daughter wanted to try the camera, and she snapped a photo of her brother! For a 6 year old, I thought she did well....

My son (8 yo) had to snap some as well (of his sister and his planes).

I thought that for low light levels (a couple of wall mounted halogens and the tv running), and with the ISO/aperture/shutter speed, the photos came out pretty good (a little grainy).

What a great camera!

Hi,

I was playing around with low light, no flash photography and trying to learn about composition.

Any thoughts on how I can improve...

I am a relative newbie, and am starting to get used to the camera now (until recently, I messed up every photo that had to use the flash... tonight I think I learnt about using the P and M modes in conjunction with the ISO, aperture and speed. I no longer got yellow tinged photos, but rather clean bright photos. I even managed to take some snaps with no flash!

Now to keep the momentum going...

Hi

just playing with my camera. This is my attempt at star trails. 40 min exposure at 10:30PM. Amazing how bright the image is. Resized for upload to the board....

Managed to capture a light aircraft through the image.

Also looks like my lens or mirror is dirty :-(

Love the camera!
