Pentax K-5 II Power Issue - Suggestions Welcomed

Yes, both the card has been formatted and the contacts are clean, it is a fairly unused camera. I am going to assume it is a fault on the mainboard somewhere. Not sure when there is a weird bug like this if there is anything that can be done besides replacing it. If it helps when it loads up and freezes and then the power is turned off, the top lcd will display the amount of pictures left, from then on it will not act properly until the battery is removed several times. More than likely a camera shop would just replace a whole part and never find the real cause. I mean it could just be a switch or something simple so I figured I'd ask around.

Pentax K-5 II Power Issue - Suggestions Welcomed

Hey, thanks for the replies.

1. Firmware is up to date with 1.07 version
2. Yes, I have tried a fully charged Pentax Battery. It is proven good in a regular K-5.
3. I have also tried all the Menu resets there are.

It seems that it is completely random when it chooses to start and when it won't at all. I do know that the little gray clip that holds in the battery does have a switch that gets pressed to let the camera know a battery is in, similar to the SD card door. If I sometimes play with that it will work which technically means that it is a power/battery issue but I can't seem to lock down a real cause or get any sort of consistency.

Pentax K-5 II Power Issue - Suggestions Welcomed

Hey, I recently purchased a K-5 II with just under 400 shots on it. The issue is that when powered on it seems that the rear lcd and shutter will hand and not work. The top Lcd and wheels will all work. The strange thing is that it freezes when powered off and needs the battery removed. Now eventually if the battery is removed and put back several times the camera will start and act normal. The camera will remain normal if it is power off and then on within a relatively short time, if left out it will go through the same cycle of not working. To me it sounds like either a power issue or a short somewhere. The fact the camera does power on eventually and work normally gives me hope but this is really a headscratcher. I don't mind taking it apart so if anyone has any ideas, feel free to let me know, thanks so much for reading if you did.

1/6000 Shutter speed

Hey, did anyone ever find a solution to this, I currently have a Pentax K-x that is exhibiting the same problem. Seems fine at 1/4000 but once you switch to 1/5000 you get about a quarter of the top screen blacked out. When switching to the highest speed of 1/6000, you get about 1/3-/12 of the screen blacked out. Not the hugest problem in the world as those shutter speeds rarely are a necessity but I feel more comfortable knowing all the gremlins that my camera currently has. If anyone ever figured this out or has any ideas, feel free to give me an update. Thanks.

New to me K5 with spot on sensor. Detectives needed!

I'm not adverse to doing that so I may try. I think I might order SmearAway just as a last resort and giving it a good shot, if that doesn't work I have no problem living with it. I wouldn't have known about it if I wasn't checking at such a high f stop. I usually shoot pretty wide so it shouldn't be too annoying in the future.

Tempted to try the Smear Away liquid from Visible Dust but not sure if it is just another gimmick. Anyone have any luck having one liquid do the trick as opposed to another (in this case Eclipse)?

Yeah ok thats what I thought you meant. I definitely tried to "work" the area, still remained the same. I don't think it has changed any since I started so I am starting to think it is either a defect, stain, or stubborn oil/pollen.

Serial Number is 3847****. I guess I will try a couple more times, the spot is visible when the mirror is up, I tend to think it is possibly dry oil and the methanol in eclipse just isn't cutting it. Thats just my guess I could be wrong but if someone more knowledgeable than me has an opinion I'd like to hear it, I'm open to anything because this hasn't budged.

Well, as of now I have tried the blower, which didn't do anything for that but it did remove stuff that was not stuck. I have tried numerous we cleanings, maybe around 6 or 7 over a 3 day span. The sensor is very clean other than that one spot. I was sure the sensor stain was more of a trail of spots but I may be wrong. Its honestly not noticeable in regular pictures with wide apertures so its not too bad but when you know its there it becomes annoying. Any other ideas would help, cleaning solutions (I use eclipse now), methods, whatever you guys can think of. Thanks again.

Recently purchased a new to me K5, barely used maybe less than 200 shots on it. Everything was good till I decided to shoot with high f-stops to see if the sensor was dirty. Had some dirt on it but nothing crazy, nonetheless I gave it a wet cleaning. That took everything off except for this one annoying spot. I know that the K5s were notorious for sensor stains but I am not sure if that is what this is. Could just be a really stubborn spot, but I believe I have worked it enough to know its probably not coming off. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, I would hate to send it in as a repair would probably cost close to what I paid for it. Thanks.

The spot is slightly off center to the right and down. It shows up at f11 and if you are trying hard to spot it can be seen at 5.6.

The k-01 seems tempting at this price, but I think I would rather get it with the 40mm.

Just an introduction......

Just wanted to introduce myself and state why I ended up as a Pentax fan. When looking for a dslr I began getting sick at the prices of Nikon & Canon and longed for something different. I wanted flexibility in lenses and to be able to capture the image in my mind without being limited by the dollars in my wallet. I know the photography industry is constantly a quality demanding one so when I stumbled upon Pentax it was a good fit. They offered me features that much more expensive cameras have, even some that other companies don't such as shake reduction in the body and the infamous green button metering. I purchased my K100d secondhand and have great manual lenses that produce beautiful 6mp images. I am an artist that is constantly looking to learn and expand on technique and idea. I look forward to contributing to a community, that for a couple of years now, have just been a voyeur of (what photographer isn't). As the great Dirk Diggler once said, "ready to shoot, Jack".
